I love the hypocrisy of Andross claiming he won't risk the lives of Venomian citizens after he launched a full-scale assault on Cornera City, civilians and all.
Personal headcanon: The Gorgon is what Andross used to kill James McCloud all those years ago. The two of them tried to destroy it in the chaos, but it was too much firepower for them to take on alongside likely reinforcements. So they damaged it, but they eventually had to run away. THAT'S how Peppy knows how to destroy the Gorgon.
This is the coolest thing Ever that's been building ever since the James-Peppy-Pigma Prologue Mission! And seeing this mission after watching that one all of those years ago is a Treat!
Having the Cornerian Fleet more involved with the attack is quite immersive. It's also pretty interesting that Andross has attempted to unveil a certain side of General Pepper
"This thing can crack a planet, why are fighters beating it?!" "Unknown, sir!" Clearly, someone has not watched Star Wars. The only thing they were missing was an exhaust port to dump Nova Bombs into :D
I have been anticipating this level, and You didn't disappoint! All the changes make it feel more believable that we are pushing through an orbital defence. I didn't realize that a more diverse weapon set would add so much life to the Arwing, but here we are. That charged beam is almost like a siege weapon, and I love it! Not to mention the shadows on the Gorgon just give it a bit more believable sense of it's size. I applaud your hard work.
What I find interesting is how Pepper is more willing to risk the lives of his soldiers than Shears is. Considering Shears turns out to be a traitor you'd think it'd be the other way around.
Pepper does appear to be more blunt in his tactics thats for sure though perhaps that is out of necessity rather than choice. Cornerian ships are designed primarily with a heavy forward firing armament which somewhat limits their tactical options in battle. It may also be a gameplay excuse to not leaving fox and crew to do everything
He's not exactly grasping at straws here. Yes the Gorgon is an unknown enemy, but it's far from the first superweapon they've fought. How did they deal with such adversaries before? By finding the weak spots and blasting them to hell. So, what happens when they fight this strange new foe that's heavily armored, heavily armed, and has these overtly conspicuous parts that don't look as durable as the rest of it? Same thing that worked before: target whatever part of it might be a vulnerability and hope for the best.
Honestly, these open loose rail maps are amazing! Really makes the battles feel like they have more gravity, just make sure you don't throw in too many.
Androssian Invader’s Journal: Area 6 “Once it was finally finished, the Gorgon was Andross’s favorite toy. It was almost the most boring assignment in the Empire for an ape soldier. Tedious inspection drills, endless hours of guarding and escorting Venomian convoys. Things got so bad that when the Star Fox team poked their noses into our air defense zone, we were almost happy to have someone shooting at us again. If only we had known what an embarrassing firestorm we were about to wade into. We probably would’ve jettisoned the whole fleet to the opposite side of space.”
Falco yelled at Fox: “Watch out, Fox!” Then Gorgon, the boss enemy of Area 6 when he is ready to deploy the deadly rainbow colored beam at you, so Fox can dodge to avoid big damage. Slippy does the same quotes as Falco when Gorgon deploy the rainbow colored beam the second time. Slippy: “Watch out, Fox!”
My only regret is the absence of that iconic area 6 theme being in there somewhere. No song from any Starfox game gives me more goosebumps than area 6.
First and foremost, I greatly admire your work, and look forward to playing this game. Some constructive criticism; The limited boost meter worked in Star Fox 64 because most of the game was a rail shooter, and "all range mode" was always in a relatively confined space where nothing was too far away. When traversing sprawling distances, a limited "speed up" mechanic can be clunky and tiresome, when you want a _fluid_ dogfighting experience. I'd suggest you consider how boosting was handled in Rouge Squadron 64. It was unlimited, but made you far more liable to crash or overshoot your target, while making it near impossible to line up a shot.
Area 6 is probably one of the hardest missions in the game for me. I would always get so close to beating it but fail. I eventually beat it, but man was it a pain. This level is looking good, though, so for once I'm looking forward to Area 6 haha!
Extremely amazingly well done with this, i can see newer updates, and i must say, this is super amazing, and also the intensity of combat and battle, not slowing down, and it is clear there is even much more to come, keep doing a wonderful job.
This looks great as always, but I think we should also take a moment appreciate just how fantastic the music score is. They've really been killing it with these tracks.
Area 6 is everything that I expect a second-to-last level to be before the final battle. The enemies are really tough, but not too tough. The music is also incredibly epic, and I love how the boss has a changes to it to fit within the all-range combat. Curiously asking, do you have plans to include the Zeram-class cruisers in plenty of other missions and not just in Area 6? I tend to see them as the equivalent of the ISDs from the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games and wouldn’t want their potential to be wasted by relegating them to only appear in Area 6.
Something tells me this will be R-Type Final 2. You know, since the game seems like it's going to cover all the conflicts and missions Star Fox has been through, like from the perspective of an historian collecting old undiscovered data throughout the Lylat Wars.

This isn't just an impressive Star Fox fangame - it's some of the most impressive space combat made in the FSOpen engine too. Still, those loading stutters are getting rough. If it's a caching issue, would it be possible to start the mission with one of every unit type used out of sight, and then de-spawn them? Just to make sure there's no assets being loaded mid-mission?
