My buddy is a diehard Honda fan. He has rode dirt bikes since he was a kid. We are in our middle 50s. He bought a Honda Pioneer 750. We hunted with it for a few years. He traded it in and got the 1000 to have power steering. He had problems with his Pioneer over heating in low range. Just two of us, he's about 160 lbs, and I'm 205 lbs with 100 lbs of gear ( guns, ammo, water, tools, etc). My buddy took it back to the dealer. Still had problems. He knows farmers that use these to pull spray trailers and other farm work and they have had problems too. I told my buddy that it looks like the fan shroud needs to be sealed off better. And another friend from work said he could probably make something up. So my buddy dropped off his Pioneer at our friend's house. He took measurements and went shopping at the local wrecking yard he frequents. He found a bigger fan with a shroud that seals better to the radiator. It came from a Honda car and had the same connector. This made a huge difference. We are in the central valley of California and deer hunt around Coalinga where the temperatures are over 100 degrees. Also, many people use the buggies that have belts, including the game wardens. And they have broken belts and had walk through the rough terrain back to get help. You won't be sorry getting one for yourself. I wish I could afford one for my little ranch.

It's hard to beat the Pioneer. I had one for few years and loved it. The throttle responsiveness did take some getting used to if you had ever owned a CVT type SXS, but grew to love that about it as well. I put over 1500 miles on mine in 2 and half years. Sold it during the shortage early this past year as I needed a larger trailer more that I needed a SXS. Great video showcasing it's strong and weak points. I agree with all the points you made.

It was a great ride also never had any trouble from it the 5 years we had it but sometimes we need the extra 2 seats and Honda has a great way to stow them and have a full-size bed and then beak them out when you need them. I have had known reason to complain we use it every day unless we are not here, but it does all the lag work for us.

Nice Video as always Josh. I understand where you are coming from with the tailgate latch system. I don't mind though. To me , the two latch system says strength. When you latch them there is a mechanical connection between the gate and the sides that prevents the sides from being pushed out and deformed. In the 70s both Datsun and Toyota's trucks had this setup. Now I worked the crap out of my 77 Datsun truck. I hauled wood and anything else you could think of. By the time I bought my next truck, an 85 Toyota 4X4, they had 'Improved' the latch system to one handed. It WAS convenient but I had to be a lot more carful about overloading it because that back connection, that reinforcing brace was not there with the one handed latch. I know the corners 'Seem' solid but when you throw heavy stuff in there that extra rigidity is nice. Just my thought, Thanks for sharing and God Bless you sir.

Problem is with the General tailgate is that there little springs that tend to come out allowing one or both sides of the tailgate to unlatch. You can replace them fairly easily but still a pain that should not have gotten past the design stage.

We love our Pioneer 1000. It’s a 2020 with 4,600 miles. Haven’t done anything to it but maintenance. If they add more notches in the bed like the rangers, make a heavier built tailgate & fix the slow speed jerk, there wouldn’t be a single complaint from me.
I use it on the farm, on fence jobs & as somewhat of a replacement for my truck when I’m going anywhere in a reasonable distance from home. It goes amazingly well in turf mode (I assume because it’s well balanced). The great payload & towing capacity paired with the ability to cruise comfortably 50-55mph without winding on it makes it great for what I ask of mine.

@@fueledtohunt2173 That I haven’t. As long as you’ve got a decent flow rate on your sprayer & can apply at at least 2-3 miles an hour you’d be golden. It’s only jerky when you’re trying to crawl/ 1 mph.

We built some things to help keep heat out of the cab if you’re interested, can send some pics. The bulkhead at the back of your calfs can get pretty hot, and the piece of material between the upper and lower seats. Once we put that flashing there, no more issue there. Just need to figure out how to keep heat out of dash area. I put a beer in the dash cup holder ONCE! Don’t do dat no mo!

I had a Pioneer 700-4 for a couple years, and I miss it. I’ve had only Honda ATVs/UTVs since I was ten years old. 35 years later I’ve owned a total of four, and I’ve only wore one out in that time span. I was rougher on that first one though. Surprised it lasted as long as it did. Anyhow, when I bought a side by side, Honda was the only option as far as I was concerned, and I wasn’t disappointed with the 700-4.. Had to add aftermarket fender flares to avoid slinging anything & everything into the operator/passenger compartments, but other than that, it was an off-road Cadillac. I could fold the bed floor back to have two additional adult-sized seats with 3 point seat belts, and the 700-4 had a full ROPS that protected the rear passengers too. Used to take my daughter, my neice, and my nephew riding on the wildlife management area in the spring & summer, and it was like riding them around in a Jeep, minus incessant mechanical failures. The 750-4 is all anyone would ever need, but I’m sure the 1000 is even better. At least you can get it with the standard cab & bed (cheaper purchase price) and still carry two passengers when you want.

It may be that you'd want to try a newer model which is a better match to this machine. And yep they still make the same 825I.....it was a handy machine...but I'm telling you....my experience tells me the Gator is just not for me...I was not happy at all hence the reason I have a kubota now...it's a little tank compared to the belt drive loud constantly breaking gator. Again...even my nieghbors $35k gator is the same platform with upgrades. No thanks on the gator until we get a re-design in my opinion. Maybe I got a lemon , but my 2019 pioneer gets so hot in the cab its not fun in warm weather. Also had to put after market bushings in the doors to make it easier to close the doors. The bed rattles terrible on rough terrain and the automatic transmission is anything but smooth. Seems manual is better. Lastly we had to have the transmission reworked at 100 hrs. and 300 miles because of loud clunking noise. Honda covered 1/2 of the repair $$ but I'm thinking something wasn't right from the factory and should have been fully covered. It does seem better now after the fix.

I 100% disagree with Doug on this......I'm sorry to say it, but I do. The general public in this day and age is both sue happy and poorly educated when it comes to food safety. Now...if a man wants to buy a cow and take it to a non inspected facility that's just fine...but selling beef off the farm that's not inspected or USDA approved is dangerous....there's a reason this stuff is regulated....people get sick and die because of mishaps and corners being cut in the butchering process. From rancid meat to contaminants in the water...this is what we have to think about my friend....public health...and the public doesn't have enough education about food safety to make an informed decision about meat and how it's processed. It doesn't mean people are stupid...it just means the average soccer mom doesn't know anything about livestock, farming and butchering...therefore we have a gov't entity in place to ensure the meat is safe for human consumption. We pay our taxes so that we're safe.....we trust the USDA to provide a standard for safe and healthy food....whether we all like it or not. I'm with ya....and I don't like over regulation....but I also understand that most people don't know safe from not safe...and some food suppliers can do crooked stuff...as we all know

You are not comparing the Kubota diesel and the Honda gas correct. It’s Apple to oranges. Everyone knows the diesel is for towing and torq, and hard work. I have the side kick 2022 yr and it is super quite and runs about 40 mph and that is fast enough for safety reasons, roll overs etc. My Sidekick was cheaper than the Honda by about 5 grand. I’m sure the Honda is a good machine but the comparison is a little flawed.

I have an older 2008 700 Ranger and it has the single middle tailgate handle, and the lift bed handles on both sides.
I believe a Honda has a better product, as far as drive train is concerned, although I have had very little trouble, other than change the belt. Which was not as big a deal as I thought, a few hours work, but very little knowledge is needed. Just having to take a few covers and the seat out.
All the machines have good points over some of the others.
The biggest stumbling point to any machine is the price. Honda being one that is up at the top of that list.

Yes J D and Kubota both are very pricey.
Not a lot of difference when it comes to their tractors, and other equipment. But never really included them into the mix, as it has only been the last few years they have tried to compete in the same market with (Polaris,Kawi,Suzuki,Yamaha,Honda) the sport SBS, and I have always thought of them as a work machine, for farms ect.
I bought mine 6 years ago, to use for fire wood and a bit of trail riding, and plow snow, it replaced a 4 wheeler, that I used for the same purpose. I still use it around the house a bit, but since I bought the old tractor a few years ago, it gets a lot less use, still mainly plow snow. Even before the tractor it sat in the garage, maybe got 20-30 hours of use a year, now maybe 10-15. But I still do use it to make some jobs less of a job.
I do see you have many pieces of equipment, that sit around for 99% of the year, but when you need that specific piece you need it. Many people keep them simply because they may only get time one day a month they can go for a ride with the kids, or grand kids.

They are also very loud and require maintenance pretty frequently. I wish someone would make a decent 4WD electric version of this. Also, the doors are pointless, so we took them off.
