Dave is such a nice bloke - seen him many times on stage and never tries to steal the spotlit. The chemistry with the others is fabulous and The Damned will forever be the best band in the world. Listen to the Black Album and let your jaw drop.
One of the greatest dressed front men ever.
One of the best punk bands ever
He is a highly intelligent, elegant and cultured person, who is also cool as fuck.
Man I was preparing myself to see how much he'd aged, what a surprise! Guy's looked after himself 👍
It's an old interview..
It's those vampire genes.
Gravedigger Dave's probably got skeletons in his closet!!
He gets round on an old Harley & goes to the Ace Cafe....
That wdntve happened in the 70s!!
I’m a 100% straight 58 year old man but I’ll tell you this Dave looks absolutely gorgeous here.I would be all over him like a cheap suit.
He is simply ravishing!
@@midnightmover2329 - lol Agreed. Dave's the cat's meow. Great video.
In my opinion the punk movement or whatever you want to call it had such a huge impact on music and culture that has never been equaled ! And never will be !
Couldn't have said it better!!!
The most significant musical revolution, everything since in debt to it, brought forward a wave of creativity, opened the door for everybody, the DIY spirit, not least has it meant a lot for women in the music world - and in society, it strengthened their position all over. Punk lives!
Check out his new single czcams.com/video/7w2njBSgJVA/video.html
Well said
Yawn
Saw the damned at rock city last Tuesday...they smashed it up...absolutely brilliant
As an American Damned fan, Dave's been a legend, and although I've never met him in person, he seems like a good dude!
The Damned are great, always were, always will be.
a friend of ours in London, had won an eb*y auction for a motorcycle part, but the seller was here in the US, so he had it shipped to our house, and it was going to be picked up by his friend, "Dave Vanian". he looks at us waiting for a reaction. "OK, let us know when", he repeats his name. This name went over our heads because it was so out of place, for that name, and our friend,,, it was so out of context. I was a punker in southern california starting, basically in 1978. So, here he comes with his wife, Pat. she was pregnant. Pat, "The Bags" were probably one of the 1st punk bands I ever saw live. Anyway, we had a great visit talking about things, they stayed for awhile. I have vintage Harleys so we had a good chat. After they left, i don't know what it was, my wife and I look at each other, and say "Dave Vanian" over and over a couple times. It only then dawned on us. it was DAVE VANIAN!!! and PAT!! Dave if you read this, how's Hairy Lee doin?
Ha ha that is a great story!!! I love Patricia too, saw her with the sisters some times back then!
He always looks cool, effortless at being nice bloke👍
Sensible said Vanian made a pact with the Devil to not age. I'm starting to believe it might be true. Long live the Damned!
He is pure legend many bands like Guns and Roses had influence from Dave Vanian and The Damned. The Damned gave so much influence to much bands and popular people Nd rock stars. The Damned deserved it all but never got intention.
Wow, now that’s a nice bike. Well done Dave. The new albums rocks. Thanks for so many great years.
How wonderful to see another side of Dave
Dave is a living legend,I am a scooter boy myself but the bikes are nice.
Great to see he's still in great health !
Yes ! You said it ' So special ' !
He has a brilliant new single czcams.com/video/7w2njBSgJVA/video.html
At the start I thought it was a 40 something bono. 😅. From u2.
I fuckin love the damned.
He must have a portrait in his attic, where he is crumbling, decrepit and ancient.
He’s the coolest guy on the planet….of course he’s gonna punt for the classic 🤘🏼
Captain sensible and Dave winning combo
Speaking as a lifelong Damned fan and proud Triumph owner/rider, I have to say this clip is absolutely brilliant! it's two gifts in one.
Ths is brilliant New single from The Damned czcams.com/video/7w2njBSgJVA/video.html
me too.. I'm. sure this is a old clip tho.. from over 10 years ago..as the bikes from. inside ace cafe are long gone..
I too am ,..and I own tigers 800 and the 1200..
40yr anniversary.. ld say 2016?
Me old man had Speed Twins & a 68 Bonnie... crackin bikes!
Great to see Mary Ann and Dave Vanian enjoying a days biking.
Two of my heroes and some truly beautiful classic motorcycles, fantastic viewing.
The host is famous?
Finally going to get to see them in Auckland in a few weeks time. Can. Not. Wait.
I saw him years ago on a Triumph in Denmark St. London. Captain Sensible used to have office there, I'm talking about 1986/7
great video, dave is a wonderful chap, i don't know what is more beautiful, mary anne or daves harley davidson!
The guys are coming to my home town of Adelaide on June 5th, thanks for this insight, love your work
The 5th year anniversary gigs at the Fulham Greyhound, I was a 17 year old clueless kid, looked about 14, but still got lagered up at loads of great gigs . Legends.
Got to be the Schott Brando Jacket and the Redwing Boots. Perfect combination.
Great band. Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant were big fans of The Damned. They used to go see them live. I'm sure that was a bit intimidating.
The Damned were always brilliant live - I remember seeing them headline at Brockwell Park in Brixton once back in the 80's - Never forget a couple of coppers foolishly venturing down the front in a futile attempt to 'control the crowd' - Both of them made a hasty retreat when they got caught up in the mosh-pit and had their helmets knocked off - The rest of the gig saw two bobby helmets bobbing about on top of the huge crowd 😂
He's a proper dude !
Loved The Damned since '76 - see you on Friday at NX Newcastle, can't wait.
It looks enormous, yes it's like sitting on the roof of a mini....make of that what you will!
what a great show and what a great find. TV is no better than when people discuss subjects they are passionate about and - crucially - that they know about.
Hey Dave I got into the damed when I was 15 now I am 55 still love the music.and I'm into vintage bikes have a 68 Harley and other's. Never new you are into bikes to. Thanks mate
Without punk will still all be wearing flairs ect diy thank you punk rock age 12 1977/i was blown away by the movement
Love the Damned and biking, it's very pleasing yet unsurprising that Dave is a rider ❤
Like deployed 👍
I discovered the Damned back in the late 80s, and have played their music ever since, never really looking into the guys themselves. This video inspired a whole new level of respect in me for them, especially Vanian, although I don't believe he would have chosen motorcycles over being a rock star. When she asked that question, I knew he was split straight up the middle. But that is one GORGEOUS motorcycle he has, that 1945 HD, the epitome of classic motorcycles, and just looking at it brought tears to my eyes (Figures they would try putting him on a V-Rod to try seducing him away from his anchor in time). I would spend my last quid to ride with Dave Vanian on a road trip.
Still gorgeous.
Wooooowww!!!! I can't tell you how much I am enjoying this!!! DAVE VANIAN!!! on his MOTORCYLE!!!!! What an awesome day you had!! I would love to tell you all my Dave story!!! Back in 1985, I lived in London as a 19 year old.....A gothy punk girl, I loved the Damned since I was about 12 years old....So....I worked on Carnaby Street, and also the Piccadilly Circus area....I was walking down Carnaby street and almost passed out!!! I saw Dave and his then-wife Laurie about to go into a shop!! I went up to them and said hello there, I'm sorry to bother you but I just wanted to say hello and I love you !!! hahah....something like that....I told Laurie I love her clothes and wear them....I told Dave I knew about the book being written by Carol Clerk (the Light at the End of the Tunnel) about the band and that I wanted to have some of my photography put in the book!! Dave was very nice about it and said he would connect me with their manager, and he gave me his name and number. I contacted him and told him I am a photographer and want to get a press pass to photograph the band in the pit at their upcoming TEA PARTY 10th ANNIVERSARY gig at Finsbury Park!! Yes Indeed, I got the press pass and was allowed access to the pit during the show!!! New Model Army opened the show....What an incredible experience.....I got TONS of great photos....I went round to the managers office a week or so later with a huge envelope of photographs.....Well.....the sad part of the story is I did not get credit for my awesome photographs....I was devastated and cried buckets of tears when the book finally came out and I found my photos but no listing of my name ...I am making a video actually right now, showing my actual negatives and photographs next to the pictures in the book.....One of my most favorite bands, and somehow some other dude got credit and then no credit at all.....So, that was a big ol' bummer....but MY photographs ARE in the book, even if my silly ol' name didn't get in there with the others.....I assume my photos just got thrown in and then confused ...... who knows.....I thought I had written my name on the back of every photo.....I have seen the Damned many many times, in London, and in the US. I am putting together some more film photographs of the band to set to their music in video format here soon as well. I am about to film with my dji osmo action a hyperlapse ride at night while riding my 125cc scooter and to set it to the Damned's new song "Motorcycle Man"....I can't 'wait! LOVE now and forever Dave and the band! Captain is super fun to talk to as well. I hope to chat to them again next time around. Oh and another fun story.....I was down FRONT (what a maniac idea that was, I nearly got crushed!!!!!!) at a show at the Hammersmith Palais......and I was getting CRUSHED man, I mean, I was barely 20, a tiny gal sort of....about to get crushed on the ground....well some people in the pit realized I was about to die and somehow some people behind me pushed me up whilest the security guards lifted me over the fencing, and carried me off the side stage to safety backstage where I managed to get sorted out and return to the show but way on the side, waaaayyyyy on the side, lol....that was WILD> AND I even saw myself on a recorded footage on the telly, me being lifted over the security and carried off, it was on a show that was on the telly - I spit my tea out when I saw it....damn I wish I could find that footage again....I have the ticket stub for that show still. the Damned were a HUGE part of my world, and I say still are, always will be. I LOOOOVVVVE the new album it is freaking bloomin AWESOME!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOX Thank you for this show with Dave! You are quite badass yourself!!! ROCK ON YALL~~~~
It’s not a 1945 Harley it’s a Harley 45. From 42 probably.
And hats off to Dave for riding in London with a foot clutch
Wow didnt know Dave rode a bike.
If its possible to love him even more well I do.
Note The Damned changed music forever for me.
Seeing them here in Adelaide South Australia in a few weeks.
Can't bloody wait and if Dave wants to take my Hayabusa for a spin he is more than welcome.
Oh and I am sure my brother would let him take his Harley for a spin too.
Especially with the cool and very appropriate plate on it."DAMNED"
Ill see ya there Bloff... No Risque Humour!
One of my favorite videos on youtube
Bloody marvelous 😊
Fab show..... The bikes and interview were great.
Massive man crush and general crush here. Mary and Dave are lovely people.
Top chap, riding with a foot clutch I'll be the rear has stepped on occasion despite modest power out put . QED the fellah knows how to ride.
Legend.
The son of dracula
Cannot believe how good Dave V looks after all these years and you're not so bad yourself Mary Anne. 😙 Love the passion and the presentation.
This is not recent it's from around 2005'ish
Wow, blown away! I did a version of Dr. Jekyll in tribute last year and..Dave, if you come to Atlantic City NJ, you can take my Indian for a spin!
My first motorcyle was an Indian!! I was barely 7 years old!! My dad was a motocross racer and I was riding my little kids bike all around doing jumps and stuff haha! I raced by the time I was 8, 9, got bigger, got bigger bikes.... ;) but I sure loved that little red Indian, man it hauled ass!!!!
Oh I love the Damned still got all my records from when I was at school my fav was and is the Black Album 🇬🇧❤️PuNk
The best.
nice, circa 2005 I would think....the London Motorcycle museum opened in 1999 and closed in 2019
You think you're cool ,but you'll never be Dave vanian cool
....
Unpopular opinion, Phantasmagoria is my fav Damned album
Dude snagged Pat Bag. He never got in the scandal sheets. A true spy.
Viva Vanian!
been to the ace many times
Well I didn't know Dave was a motorcycle person or that he was ok to be out during the day.😀
he seems like a very nice guy, pretty cool, and I am sure he would never trade his Harley for another.
Didn't realize Vanian was a biker. It certainly suits him although I'm not keen on his machine. Shall we say it's an acquired taste! Isn't that the ex wife of Miles Hunt? I'll have to dig up some Wonderstuff. Great band. And The Damned of course! Glad they're both still going. The mention of Sensible hating beards made me giggle!!
I don't think the Harley dealership guys knew who Dave Vanian is 🤣
Know it all
Dave is definitely a vampire. He has barely aged. Either that or this video is actually ancient
I'm guessing this is at least 20 years old as neither Dave nor Mary Ann look like that any more. But it's great footage, with cool motorcycles
@@philipusher4282 Dave doesn’t look much different now. Always be a handsome man.
Top bloke..and that bike is as cool as penguin piss!❤️
THE DAMNED 🏴☠🏴☠!!!the Song FAN CLUB !!!!
If I meet Dave, first thing i would say would be thankyou, then check out the Gorge road from Athelstone , up through chain of ponds heading to Birdwood and the National Motor Museum of Australia
thanks for posting! any idea what year this was filmed?
Early 2000s I'm pretty sure
@@alicespunkcorner cheers!🍻
Dave reminds me very much likr dave gahan looks and personality too
Even though he is not Jewish, for some reason he reminds me of John Moss. Maybe the way he talks and explains things like Jon Moss.
67 years of age, I find this very impossible!!
First punk single first punk album and record deal to major label
First British punk band British on top of the pops I think,
finally got his autograph! he signed my vinyl sleeve of their debut lp! Captain Sensible is a great bloke too. Very nice bloke. Dave looks great here, what year did the interview take place? C
Early 2000s I'm pretty sure
They're all great blokes in The Damned. I seen them in the 70s. They were just walking around the club (Factory At The Russell Club) talking to everyone as if they were old friends. No egos whatsoever.
Anyone know if Dave's musical genres and love of motorcycling has brought him into a bromance with the Stranglers' JJ Burnell? A fiercely heterosexual bromance l mean!😂 That London Motorcycling Museum would, surely, not be unknown to JJ. Great plug for it, by the way, Dave.
What a shocker. DV drives a Harley.
I thought he drove a herse.
So from the big three British punk bands you've got three Harley riders.
DV the Damned. Steve Jones Sex Pistols and Paul Simon of the Clash.
Funny, I never figured Dave for a gear head. I toured with the Damned in ‘01 and he never discussed bikes.
He’s definitely got great taste!
Bikes and hearses 😀 I’ve seen the Damned so many times Ive lost count. Such down to earth guys. How many other music legends would hang around the bar chatting with fans or having group photos? Not many I’m sure.
Cool ! How old is this interview ? What year ?
Idk the exact year but I'd say 2000s
Does anyone know what year this is from?
He’s not the only punk with a passion for bikes, check Animal from ANWL or Keith Plummrage from High Wycombe!
JJ? Not a 'punk', but a musical genius.
Saw the dammed at the Sheffield polytechnic, 1982 I think I was only 13 years old went with the order kids, I never seen anything like it , only live act I ever saw was at working men's clubs , scared the he'll out of me, i got two harley-davidson now two evos, fatboy 99, evo heritage 1990, check out hunting harleys CZcams
Was that a Phil Read bash-hat?
Looks good how old is he?
Here in the vid 40s i think
He looks great now he is 66 now, he sounds great he is great.
how old is this video?
@@thesoundlikechameleons2082 early 2000s definitely
Met dave at his gig.he came out the back for a fag.and got locked out.he bashed on the door and they opened up.great band. And dave is a fantastic guy.great band and era.

Pompous
viva THE DAMNED.VERDUN TO VERACE!"
What year is this interview from?
2000s idk the exact year
Is Miss Hobbs welch?
When was this filmed?
Early 2000s
@@alicespunkcorner Thank You
When was this filmed? Dave looks better than most 30 years old today. And he's what? 65 today?
I think early 2000s so he'd be in his 40s!
@@alicespunkcorner Thanks. Just saw a video from 5 years ago with him and Captain Sensible. And he hasn't really changed much. It's probably the fresh blood he drinks as vampires usually do...
I went to see the Damned in 2017 and they all looked pretty much the same as they did when I first saw them-in 1980!! They were fantastic by the way! ❤❤❤
@@bluecat798 No drugs, no alcohol... 😄
Must be old, it has that jaggy interlaced footage look.
This is about the coolest I've ever seen vanian!!
A total legend !!
Alices Restaurant
Mid 90s?
Dave looks in his late 30s
This is current yes?
That's what I thought.
Old harleys all the way, modern bikes compensate for so much more and are more like racing cars, an old bike is an iron horse, you learn everything about it, it's temperament, how to get the best out of it, and when it's going to fail, much like an animal, they sharpen your wits.
I know more about Dave Vanian’s life.
What time did he fart on March 13 2004
What year was this ?
@@astra-rb6sz early 2000s maybe don't mind my brother he's taking the piss...
@@alicespunkcorner Wow never seen this before, thanks for posting.
@@astra-rb6sz that's my job lmao
Wonder if he's into Motogp?
Triumph Trident no that bike was a twin
3 cylinder Triumph P1.
Feel sorry for Vanian, he's always disciplined in his smart semi goth image then Sensible always makes sure to clash with it and tries to steal the show with his usual hyper commie routine.
There's always room for more than one character in The Damned; they've always embraced both the sublime and the ridiculous.
They balance each other.
I feel sorry for you being such a hyper fascist that you think Captain Sensible is a "commie"
