I feel like I'm missing something - why does Sam chump block with Nantuko at 18 in game 1? Even if he's worried about some crazy combination of pump spells killing him, he could chord before blocks and chump with the token. He still winds up with 4 creatures and combo ready to go the next turn, but seems like having Nantuko eliminates any chance of fizzling.

Some things kill him there, since he only has 1 available blocker. A combination like lava dart + 2x mutagenic growth would win, for example. As would the less likely 3x mutagenic growth + any burn spell.
