    In the first chapters and arcs, he already had the vision in terms of storyboard, but the drawings were really sketchy. In the latest chapters, while the technique itself is still amateurish, the quality of the illustrations themselves is much better: faces are expressive, shading with cross hatching well used and the anatomy of the characters is no longer that off as it used to be.

Being a mangaka is extremely tough work, and pretty much the only way to be popular/sell any copies is to be signed at a publishing company. At least over in japan, webtoons, which are mostly korean manwha share a different story. But, just the sheer fact that one punch man is so good, that it took off as an web manga is a mountainous accomplishment.

    • @kingcrimson4133
      @kingcrimson4133 Před 2 lety +2

      I personally think Ryukishi's art has a lot more soul in it than the updated art. When I first read through Higurashi, it was on the Steam release which had the choice between the original and updated art. I played with the updated art because at first glance it was an obvious decision, but I quickly found that the updated art was simply soulless. It was shiny and glossy and clean and the characters all look like they're staring into space without a thought in their head. Meanwhile, Ryukishi's character art is thrumming with personality, and his skill at conveying precise emotion through facial expression is unmatched. I switched to his artwork and fell in love with it, and I haven't looked back. Though I will say that the PS3 sprites for Umineko do a pretty good job of translating Ryukishi's style in a more skilled way. His art for Ciconia, meanwhile, looks better than ever, and I'm excited to see how it will evolve going forward.

    Amazingly done. Even as mostly an anime-only fan, I've already digged a bit into what's next in the OPM manga and especially webcomic, since the manga is a little bit behind, and both the art (WC included) and story seem to remain at a very high level. Anyway, I watched S1 for the first time around 2018 and I was obviously blown away, but not just for the visuals but also pretty much everything else. It's both an awesome, funny and relatable series with mostly memorable characters. And I was a mildly out of the loop with anime in general when S2 came out so I didn't catch up too much with it and the "drama" the studio change generated. Though I think it kinda exposes some unreasonable expectations and a "watching only for the cool visuals" mentality of a few audiences, something that still lingers on to this day when measuring the general reach and popularity of other action anime. I eventually watched S2 earlier this year after getting back into OPM I'm general and it was a lot better than it's given credit for. Some cut corners were very evident but the new studio did a fairly decent job in keeping the engagement and likability of the non-visual aspects of the series, to the point where I've already digged into the afromentioned manga/WC future story details because I liked enough what I saw. For the better of the series and it's qualities, I'm hoping that whoever studio ends up making S3 and beyond can wow audiences to a similar degree as S1 and the Mob Psycho anime, since I think OPM truly deserves a renowned recognition. Also, I've noticed that you showcased a lot of Tatsumaki panels from both versions. Guess she's a favorite. I don't blame you; even if she can be very stubborn and crazy, she's just as charming, ethereal, funny and even relatable to an extent.
