- John’s “There’s A Place” was released as the penultimate song on The Beatles’ debut album Please Please Me. Written in the first person perspective, the lyrics relate to the singer’s ability to overcome loneliness by finding a safe haven in his mind. It was also released as a single in March of 1964 as the B-side to “Twist and Shout.”
Like the majority of the Please Please Me album, “There’s A Place” was recorded during the marathon session on February 11, 1963 at EMI studios lasting almost thirteen hours. The song was the first song to be recorded during the day and was recorded in ten takes. After their lunch break, Lennon returned to do three takes of a harmonica overdub taking up takes 11-13, with take 13 being the master. The standard lineup of musicians was used for the recording.
Ringo played his Premier Mahogany Duroplastic kit on “There’s A Place” and his performance is remarkable. It’s a simple part really, but it’s the perfect part for the song. Nice and simple. Like most songs on the album, the groove follows an eighth note pattern, this time on the hi hat, with a consistent bass drum pattern. He plays his signature fill that is heard in “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Anna”, “Boys” and other songs from 1963. The only times a cymbal is heard in the song is when Ringo accents the “and it’s my mind” lyric, coming out of the fill going into the bridge, and after the fills in the outro.
To see this drum video in a full band context, head over to @GretschMan878 and watch his video of the song. It’s great!
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more to come!
We have new drummers at home and we will be watching your videos! And we love the Beatles and Stones too! It is especially great to see what Ringo would be playing on our favorite songs!❤ ❤❤❤❤❤
Beatles and the Stones, this is the place to be! Glad you found the channel!
There's a place...in the drummer hall of fame for this dude! Go, David go!
Thanks Jacob! That really means a lot!
Ringo plays with so much force in this song but it´s hard to appreciate it on the mix. I love this one beat on the kick drum after the triplet on the sanre drum
Absolutely! All of Ringo’s parts are under appreciated because of how the songs were mixed but once you isolate them, you realize how intricate they are. It’s really a great performance! Those bass drum hits are almost unheard when listening to the song.
Crisp! Love it!
Thank you very much!
Hell yeah David 🤘
Thank you very much!
❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
Great work David!
Thank you Earl!
Pra variar, muito bom Davis, muito bom!!!
Thank you very much!
One of Lennon’s thoughtful songs… just like ‘In My Life’…☺️steady drumming & nice fills👍
Sets the stage for more thoughtful songs from Lennon in the coming years! Thank you very much!
Hi David! Have you ever considered doing "A Day In The Life"? Ringos drumming is amazing! Would love to see a cover!

@@davidmontis7259 Thanks!
One of my favourites on the album.
You didn't necessarily match the exact tone, but it still sounds great!
(Can't wait for Giles and his team to remix the PPM album)
Thank you very much! It’s not easy getting the tones to match all the time. Not really a whole lot on the internet that talks about Ringo’s tunings at least for the earlier years. But glad you still liked it! Hopefully they Giles gets to the early years in the future!
@@davidmontis7259 I'm excited to hear the rest of "Rubber soul" first :)
@@IsaacWale2004 same! I was kind of bummed that re-releases of the Red and Blue albums came before a deluxe Rubber Soul box at first, but those remixes of the songs sound great! Hopefully Rubber Soul for this year!
@davidmontis7259 I can see that point, but I do admittedly think it'd be a little odd to have released Rubber soul randomly with Now and then 😂
-Then again, I do like what we've got from RS so far on that and can't wait to hear all the other songs remixed!
(I also wish Giles would release the multitracks. I'd pay for them)
@@IsaacWale2004 yep! All in good time! They know what they’re doing.
1:40 🥁
Signature Ringo fill!
Can you do “Love me do”? Drums and tambourine?😊
All in good time!
