    Wish my English were good enough in order to express to you how good teacher you are (and i'm very strange person when the time comes to rate a teacher). I will only say this: Wish i had a teacher like you in every study of my life. Sorry if my English confused you and thank you very much for helping us.

    Please do a second session for Spanning Tree. Also show how you do a secondary as in the spanning-tree vlan 10 root primary/secondary. Also mention more in the next STP video for MSTP,RSTP,CST and give us more basic information about the various STP variants so its not just towards the new CCNA 200-301 cert. Also mention the cost of fast ethernet and 10Gbit ethernet aswell. I have watched a STP video from Laz last week I belive, I'm watching yours aswell to see who has the best information and what the other person left out.

    I want to say that you are the best Cisco teacher I know. I'm studying for my CCNA exam and you help me alot.
    I have a little question. What is the difference between a Root port and an Uplink port?

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for the question Remco.
      A root port is:
      an official STP role for a port
      exactly 1 port (for a given VLAN) on each non-root switch
      is the only port that is forwarding towards the root switch/bridge
      Regarding the word "uplink" is a more general term, and could vary based on the context. An uplink could refer to a port that is or coule be forwarding towards the root bridge, but again isn't an official spanning tree port role.

  • @619sdbdub
    @619sdbdub Před 2 lety

    You could have short cutted and said that the root port is the switchport connected to the root bridge. But the long explanation is great to know.

    Hi Keith, as usual, excellent work :)
    Question: i have a network of 14 Aruba switches all linked via aging copper cable on a ring network. I'm about to have a fibre ring network built onto it for better speed and reliability and leave the copper as redundancy. So as i see it I will essentially have 2 links to each switch. I assume STP will take care of all this without any fuss? Your advice would be most appreciated. Cheers :)
