Mike is definitely one of the most innovative bassists of the 2010s, man, his playing is awesome. For some additional videos I'd love to see players like Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Fat Mike (NOFX) or Les Claypool
Man his fuzz is so balls crushing
The band named OM by bass player of Sleep, Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius were a duo too
Anyone mentioned Robert DeLeo?? His unique style bass playing is so good. Example of that is the bassline from interstate love song and plush
I'm learning interstate love song now. It's very creative.
He made a video about Robert! He is one of the bests! Really melodic player
“Lady Picture Show” is one of my favorite songs to play on bass.
do a video on Death From Above 1979 next!
royal blood are really good. and come up with new ideas on every album. two persons-limitless possibilities.
You should do Bill Gould of Faith No More!
It would be epic if we could see one of these on Alex Webster.
Great video! It's interesting how when guitarists discuss Mike, they tend to focus in gear and effects. The good thing about bass, is that it's a very "young" instrument and it's still in development and open to experimentation, and it's good that guys like Mike, Cliff Burton, James Jamerson, Flea or Geddy Lee remind us there are no real limits. Bass IS about solid grooves and tone, but sometimes pushing the limits is necessary and healthy... ;)
Resumo:
1. Colocar notas silenciosas no meio dos riffs
2. Usar cordas soltas
3. Usar afinações diferentes
4. Usar notas graves e agudas para fazer base e solo
5. Usar as notas mais próximas da ponte para o solo aparecer melhor
6. Repetir o mesmo riff
7. Usar técnicas de guitarra
8. Usar notas fantasma em algumas palhetadas
Not sure if you have yet but I think Noel Redding would be interesting
Jesse Keeler from Death from Above 79 please!
0:57 Lightning bolt
Death From Above 1979
YES
Jesse Keeler is underrated
I feel like a lot if people will over complicate his sound but you really just need a good amp, and an octave and some dirt pedals. Maybe a bass with humbuckers if you want to get more specific.
Since you've started doing current century artists and used a clip of them in this video, I think Brian Gibson of Lightning Bolt would be a great choice to analyze. He's also another very "guitarist" style bassist on account of being part of a two-piece band with Brian Chippendale. He's also really good at keeping Chippendale's positively manic drumming grounded enough to make sense in context while still maintaining a great sense of melody.
Oh my god, yes!
The fact that he puts a banjo string(s) on his bass just amazes me.
You should do a video on how to sound like David Hungate and Mike Porcaro of Toto, or Peter Cetera of Chicago
Loved it. Ya gotta do one on Jesse F. Keeler.
Please man do an episode on Mark Sandman from Morphine
Great video! Thank you very much for such interesting and educational content!
Loved this!! Great job as usual. These videos have definitely improved my playing
Now Mikey Shuman of Qotsa 😀
Cheers Paul for another great video
Great vid. These videos are great jumping off points and have helped me become a better bass player since I've discovered your channel. Keep up the great work, man 🤘
Damn this video brought up points that I never considered about his techniques, amazing video
Thanks for another great video! I’m an old fart that still loves to rock! But I only get this insight from you and your well done productions. I new this band sounded good but I didn’t realize it was just a duo. Pretty cool. Thanks again!
Make one about gear
Would like to see Traa from P.O.D got covered. This guy is so underrated, for me the most technically-accomplished nu-metal bassist by a mile.
A gear run down would be cool too!
Gosh, I was waiting for this video, also for a Robert DeLeo hahaha you rock, man!
Thanks for this man
Can you do bassist from the garden
Great video!
Brilliant thank you 🙏 ki
Check out the rock duo High Kicks.
Awesome video once again Paul!
I’d love to see Rob de Leo from Stone Temple Pilots up next. He’s definitely an underrated player for sure
Hope to see Bill wyman, Les claypool and James Jamerson.
Nice call, especially on Jamerson. His bass line was very melodic and his knowledge on chord structure was damn vast.
Well since you got the legend Brian Gibson in the video, you have to a video about him now
would love for you to talk about Jared from kings of leon! underrated bass player of the 00’s
Awesome
Why not talk about Nick Oliveri on the next video?
Nice job Paul \m/
CZcams is being crazy again. I just got a notification for this video - after it had already been up for 3 days?!
Interesting I’d never heard of this band before. Ronnie Lane please
Talking about this century´s bassists, can you make a video of Chris Slorach (METZ) or Pavel Koslov (Molchat Doma)?
One Great example of him going from low to high is definitely 10 tonne skeleton, which I'm pretty sure he uses an auto wah, and also the repeat phrasing in lights out on the solo parts where he repeats it four times I believe, always reminds me of running with the devil
It's time for a signature Jag Bass...

Cool vid. Request for Eric Avery and Billy gould please.
Kerr is sick, good call. Mike Gordon from Phish should be added to your list too
Another vote for covering Robert DeLeo from STP. And how about Mick Karn from Japan? A unique fretless style. Or for something unusual: Ned's Atomic Dustbin, a band with two bassists.
Great video! I didn’t understand what do you mean by 16th root note layer, can you clarify that?
I think using short scale basses is also a factor.
Day 6 of asking for Jason Newstead
Boring
Step 1: Watch what James does on guitar
Step 2: Repeat on bass
He already did it, didn't you hear?
@@haze4haze haha I see what you did there
You should totally do a video on Steve DiGiorgio
So when you going to do one about Thundercat?
These guys should do the Superbowl
VIII/ Picking closer to the neck helps you play faster parts?
I know you know your stuff but something seems way wrong here. You want speed and tightness you're picking/playing by the bridge.
Do Greg Mayne of Pentagram!!
👏👏👏
Robert DeLeo please
3:40 The thing that should not be is in Dm
Please do fat mike
Like a cross between white stripes and nickelback. Who listens to this
I hate to say it because the concept of the band is interesting but we're a few albums in and all the songs kinda sound the same.
Another "weird" act in the world of music, on the extreme side, is Cause For Effect. A two man bass 'n' drums grindcore group from Finland.
Disciplin A Kitschme did it first 😁
Next Time glen matlock from sex pistols he is good player!
