    Great job getting to fat mike and more punk rock bands. You should definitely do some more punk ska and reggae bands as well as some jam bands bassists. Hopefully we have many, many, many more from you to come. Learning a lot. Keep it up my man.

    Fat Mike and Nofx have always really stood out to me as an influence. I think what he’s helped to create in the punk scene is unifying and awesome. The band that wouldn’t die as they say.

      Check out the documentary on CZcams appropriately called The Wrecking Crew about said group of studio musicians who worked with almost every great artist of all genres throughout the late 50s til the 80s...anyway the electric bass player I'm sure u you've heard of the legendary Carol Kaye...the crew's most famous and greatest work was of course Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys....but check it out if ya haven't seen it.... I'm also a huge NOFX and punk rock fan as well

    Mike is definitely an innovative player and is super underrated in my opinion, great analysis as always and still waiting for a video on Roger Waters, Paul McCartney or Les Claypool at some point

    I remember being an early beginning guitarist and trying to learn NOFX songs. They’ve always just been on a whole neither level. Their songs are tuneful indeed but so much more musically complicated than other punk bands. By far! So difficult.

    The upstroke is very funky. Fat Mike pulls the notes and plays chords by hitting the higher strings 1st.

    In early 2010's I joined a power metal band and I had to learn all those fast songs. I played them with a pick and don't ask me why, but I used to start fast lines with an upstroke..it became something natural for me

    Good video,fat Mike has a cool technique and amazing song writer.I really hopped you would feature fat Mike on your series.tho you didn't really explain how to "sound" like fat Mike,more so how to "play" like fat Mike. What gear does Mike use,effects,bass models,live rigs Etc.? Could there be a followup video possibly?

    Excelent! Fat Mike is a great bass player and NOFX is a fantastic band. Your videos are really cool and it was awesome to see this particular episode. I want to ask you, because I don't really know the answer: how do you think he got the tone from the "So long (...)" album? That tone is unique and absolutely stellar. Even if it only works in mixes such as those from punk rock albums and alike. That tone... It's amazing. All the best for you and your channel! 👍

    There is nothing sub standard about Mike’s playing, nothing virtuosic either. He is a solid player.

      His arrangements are pretty virtuosic. There's alot more to his songs than most other punk bands writers. The guy is and absolutely brilliant songwriter.

    Mike has some very strange time signatures and progressions. He also has some crazy intricate lines woven and buried on some of their tunes. As well as “difficult to pin down” rhythms every once in a while. Outside of maybe Matt Freeman, Joe Raposso, Mike Watt and a handful of others, Mikes one of the GOAT bass players in that scene.
    Not even a fan of his politics or the childish attention seeking, how he only attacks one religion the majority of the time dislike his hypocrisy and degeneracy, but i can still be objective enough to give him his credit, musically.
    You made him sound just above average, when he has legendary lines,

    For the upstrokes it looks like he's plucking the string like you'd do with your fingers, but using the pick?
    Not a bassist, so not sure how plausible that explanation is

    The key to sounding like Fat Mike is you've gotta do 2 minutes of cringe jokes/"banter" after each song. Bonus points if you weird out all the chicks. Also, use a pick.
