Trevor Wittman is a world-renowned striking and combat coach. This is an excerpt from SECRETS TO COUNTER FIGHTING available from DynamicStriking.com.
Dynamic Striking was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your striking skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for students interested in striking who don’t look at mixed martial arts as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

The way Justin is so eager to jump in to add a point on top of Trevor teaching it seems he will starting a coaching career as soon as he retires from fighting.
Very high level both content and coaching, thank you.
that top down camera angle at 3:15 was next level, appreciate the content coach 🫡🫡
🤗🤙🏻
This is some awesome info! Easy to understand, not super instance-specific, and very useable. Thank you guys!
🤗
The level of detail here is remarkable. Thanks to everyone involved
🤗
Calling it “collision” is perfect! In a fight you have to put yourself in danger to put your opponent in danger, typically. So find the angle and set up the ideal collision. Sure you may get your paint scraped off but with a good set up you can total their entire car.
It isn't very often you find good coaches who are good on camera but he seems so comfortable in front of the camera.
Thank you for the education. Just Wow. Fantastic.
The overhead view is so awesome to see the angles easier and foot position.
This was great! There is so much to learn from this.
Really brilliant! Many, many thumbs up!
Love the top down view. You can see the positioning of both of really well. Different cameras angles in technique videos like this is are great for striking and grappling
Dude’s a great coach.
🤗
Great thank you champs
Amazing 👏
Thank you again. So instructive 🙏
This is gold ...
Thx~
Learn a lot ❤️
Gold!!
Sick camera above
Self Notes:
- as we move what arm, I'm making him strong, so I'm waiting for this arm so I'm able to counter.
- set up giving him a spot to hit, pulling my head out of range when he shots causing him coming into my shot.
- moving leg outside the opponent waiting for movement it will be easier as he needs his head turning towards me.
- upper cut is much better picking his head up and out as he can't use his shoulder as a brake to hold head in place.
- Drive him into my shots
- counter to cross: ■ go inside and pivot to gain conventional stance
■ go southpaw & shooting straight shots
■ back and sit
Greatness at work. Thank you for the knowledge, Coach!
🔥
So many pieces to work on from this. Isolate which side they can strike with by moving your head offline or moving your body off the line.
Plant showed that left hook to Direll to return with that KO hook. Salute
Wish I could find a striking coach as good as trevor Whitman where I'm from hes a master at striking coaching
This is gold thanx coach 🔥🙌🏽🙏🏽
🔥
This is just amazing content, by far THE best I’ve seen, and to see also Gaethje you get to see just how he causes so much damage with his shots. I’ve taken so much away from this video alone never mind the rest of your content 🤙👊🏻🥋
🤗
Nice
Justin literally did this to Fiziev, man I’m hitting the garage rn to work on it
Yoooo ko is caused by making them spin rather than blunt force amazinggggg ❤❤❤
More angles like this above, that would help people think of their strategy soooo much!! Rather it be amateur or people who want to defend themselves in their life
Coach witmen and Tom yankello are the most technical striking coaches I have ever seen
Trevor Whitman ....AND JUSTIN GAETHJE ❤
Back to school💯📝

I thought of a new way to set up a counter punch that I’d like to share. A great way to bait an opponent into coming forward with a punch is to stand still (momentarily). Most people will take a stationary target as a free invitation to come in with an attack and you can counter off that
Would love an opportunity to train with Trevor, this is great.
🤗
Would love a shadow boxing levels 1 - 10❤❤❤
Trevor needs to do a full instructional series and sell it. Take my $$$
yup, with gaethje
love it
it's hilarious Justin actually fought a one-handed fighter in PFL
Congrats justin , the bmf ❤️
🤗
This is good stuff.
It shows that Dustin can beat you by being a better athlete.
It shows that Khabib can beat you by having a more dominate style.
I wonder if Justin implemented these tactics on Nick Newell. Justin literally fought a dude with one arm
Gem
If you are moving right I will throw a left hook and if you are moving left I will throw a looping right hand. If you're moving right you are choosing to battle the jab and left hook etc taking the right hand out of play. It's called splitting the body and fighting one hand.
Justin gaethje calf kick video
10:40 is how TJ KOd Cody
I notice whenever I get an angle such as the one to set up the crash from the right hand my training partner or opponent always seem to disengage and back away, not giving me an opportunity to set them up for a counter shot, rather I find myself chasing them momentarily to land as they back off. Is there any way I can coerce my opponent to be willing to throw from a compromised position?
I have a question though:
Is parrying even that feasible with 4oz gloves on? Of the thousand fights I've watched I don't really recall one with any significant parrying. It seems like it's much easier in boxing because a) the average hit is only half as hard and b) the glove is a much bigger parry target. Just a thought. I parry when MMA sparring with 12, 14 or 16 ounce gloves, but yeah the few times I've sparred with 7 ozers I don't think I parried once.
Can you do a similar video for the open stance (orthodox vs southpaw)?
Where can i buy those shoes?
They have 5 ufc belts. I just wanna know, if that was a new belt for each championship? They always make a new belt for a championship?
I wanna see Gaejthe V Ryan
I don't understand - if you're to my left why would I throw a right hand vs throw a left hook? As he said you need to open up to make the right so why would I throw the right vs having them run into my hook?
Looking at the overhead view sure a hook is far but I'm going to step left as I throw it. Or honestly I'm just going to throw a left kick instead.
A right is more powerful but you have to turn to make the shot vs just cut them off and make the hook. They're the experts but it doesn't make sense to throw a right if he is a mile away to begin with
Bro. Why not just add that lead hand perry and the cross at the same time. Since both of y'all throwing right crosses. In fact that would help Justine in his fights.
Centrifugal is not pronounced anything like what Justin said. Both the F and G are enunciated, like a Bugle, but a Fugle instead
Those shoes??what r they called??
Justin’s got ASICS aggressors, Trevor’s got some sort of mizuno boxing shoe
That punching dummy look like gaetje of UFC
first
wow this is complete bologna, when you are moving to away from his left it is not making easier for your opponent to hit you with it LOL wtf is this ?
Yeah, this whole video assumes that the fighter coming after you doesn’t jab of feint at all.
Then again, the average MMA fighter does.
This whole concept makes striking needlessly complex and random.
Trevor is the very best in the business as far as I’m concerned.
He and Gaethje work so well together.
I’m sure Justin would be an easy man for anyone to train tho.
Doesn’t let his ego get in the way of learning and always improving
🤗🤙🏻
