Eldrazi are some of the most powerful creature in Magic: the Gathering. They also happen to be colorless. As a result, there's a ton of demand for the most powerful Eldrazi, since they can go in any deck! In this video, I take a look at the 10 most expensive Eldrazi in Magic: the Gathering, and explain what makes them so expensive.

It's been pointed out that Zhulodok, Void Gorger should have made the list . I managed to overlook it because you can get a version of Zhulodok for only $2.49, but it turns out that $2.49 version is a Foil Etched Display Commander. In other words, it works as a Commander, but not as anything else because it's extra thick and not like a normal Magic card. So yeah, Zhulodok should be here!
Definitely a unique case, not many times do cards have an official thicker card available while also the original card is so much more expensive
where do you get the art for the backgrounds from? i was looking at scryfall, but they usually were rather low resolution.
@@Matti_Mattsen mtgpics.com is the main place
One fun thing about Ulamog the Defiler is that he sees himself while entering if he's blinked because the enters clause is not a trigger. So for the low low cost of one Cloudshift you can have yourself a 17/17 with annihilator 10.
I've been seeing some people mess around with Yggdrasil in a colorless eldrazi shell in Modern for exactly that interaction. A hasty 17/17 annihilator 10 will win in virtually any game you can manage to attack with it.
I think people misevaluated emrakul the promised end because it "gives your opponent an extra turn". Practically though, it gives the caster an extra turn, except that turn uses your opponent's resources instead.
The extra turn the opponent gets from emrakul is given to them replace their turn, otherwise they would be skipped this turn cycle. You aren't really giving them anything.
It sucks so many Eldrazi don't have Annihilator anymore. It was a great thematic mechanic for the creatures and made them seem like they were consuming the board but I guess it was too powerful and too unpopular to play against.
I'm surprised as many were given it as they were in Modern Horizons 3. But I agree. But given its level on the storm scale, I'm happy with what we've gotten.
I'm not sure how many MTG players would enjoy a gameflow that is the Jace end of the 1v1 between Jace and Emrakul. Are you one of those? @mattblom3990
No annihilator anymore? These ones who had annihilator have still annihilator and with the new set we get some more with annihilator aswell 'ward' whats for the eldrazis a second kind of annihilator. So we got more not less.
@@GeneticResearch That's not entirely correct, I actually chose my words carefully with "so many Eldrazi don't have annihalator anymore" Meaning I know a few do, but much less. The old Eldrazi maintaining their annihalator didn't factor into my statement. I just wish more new Eldrazi had it. I think thematically it's such a good mechanic for them and should be used more often.
The only MTG channel where you can hear the word "brobdingnagian" lmao
I felt my brain expanding.
Fun Fact: Kozilek Butcher of truth got a Reprint just in english and us down to Like 25€ here in Germany. The german version is up to 75€ because of no Reprint and high demand from collectors
The german cards are often more expensive as the english ones because its rarity. On the other side a lot of tell us we should buy the english ones because more worth whats not true.
I remember getting my first eldrazi cards with annihilator. "Mmm yes, everyone will 'love' me for playing these"
I started in worldwake and my first deck was eldrazi. Near and dear
2:24 correction- one or more colors
More interesting question for me is why Kozilek, The Great Distortion is not expensive at all? He was the most popular Eldrazi Commander before Eldrazi precons and he is extremely popular now
Grab his borderless foil while it's still $4, it's going higher.
@@mr.nakamura9088 I've already grabed his oldest non-foil version, his new versions are very hard to find because I think everyone else grabs them faster than me
Probably because he’s the only titan who requires colorless mana to cast it.
@@laurentrobitaille2204 people explained me that while having the same supply as Ulanog, the Infinite Hunger, Kozilek has zero potential outside of commander's role (though he is perfect for it), while Ulamog is widely played in 99 and in other formats. Also Kozilek is hard to cast for colored decks due to colorless mana in cost
Void Winnower also has the advantage of being able to pull out this ruling on it whenever you feel like:
"8/25/2015 - Yes, your opponent can't even. We know."
My favorite creature type! Kozilek, the Great Distortion is my favorite card, period. I love my colorless Eldrazi commander deck being led by him. I've even won a few games of cedh with a colorless deck with him as its commander also.
Kozilek the Great Distortion was my first commander deck. Very fun times.
Love Eldrazi, such a cool take on eldritch beings. Gotta agree with another comment about missing annihilator on them though. It really made them feel unstoppable and all consuming like a cosmic horror should be.
Pulling a PR ulamog the defiler was like the highlight of my PR kit!: i had to find space for him in my decks after that.
Same kit also had Kozilek the broken reality! Thst one im still figuring out a deck for
I remember I had Ulamog in my sealed pool way back when they were first released. I hard casted the card and got rid of my opponent's Kozilek who just got casted. I loved the over-the-top design. MTG back then was so different. They really made the Eldrazi feel like impending doom.
Finally, a list where I have all of these cards :P
(13:08) This is the one and only pricy Eldrazi that I own, which I pulled in my prerelease box. And, I was surprisingly able to get the 10 mana needed to cast Ulamog, the Defiler a few times too, which certainly had impacts in those prerelease games.
You missed Zhulodok 😮
Although i own the most of the shown expensive Eldrazi Zhulodok is still my commander because his good 'ramp' abilities. And because the new 5-color Eldrazi commanders are more likely for token decks i stay with the monocolored Edlrazi commander Zhulodok.
Ahhh Eldrazi, this is a creature type I have some experience in. One of my favourite EDH decks is Eldritch Moon tribal, which runs quite a few Eldrazi. Funny enough though, the only two I run from this list are Emrakul, the Promised End and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre (because fuck mill decks). I wonder if any of these cards would make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
lol, u the dude that keeps requesting this list. Nizz, give the man what he wants!!
8:30 I just can't even.
lmao
Took me a moment, but very well done and I'll be stealing this line forever
The timing of this is really funny. Just last night, while watching the Doctor Who episode "Doomsday" where the void between realities is an important plot point, I told my wife that the reason I had been hesitant to build a Tenth Doctor deck is that the best cards for his attack trigger to suspend -- creatures native to the void between realities -- are too expensive. (I did eventually decide to build it with a few lesser Eldrazi to start with. If I like it but decide it needs some extra juice, I can then add the titans one or two at a time.
It's funny that that secret lair of Void Winnower has art so awful that it actually lowers the value of the card by several dollars.
I use defense of the heart to get emrakul out early on mtga brawl.
This is my go-to channel for lunch break vids. Kudos!
Must be depressing considering every single price on this channel is like 40% higher than market.
I remember opening a foil emrakul and a zendikar expedition scalding tarn in the same booster box.
Oooo! Great use of brobdingnagian.
5:39 Small mistake here: Kozilek says "up to two target players", which means you can target yourself, and nobody else. So you'll get Kozilek, two 5/4 with potentially good cards underneath, and draw two.
13:24 According to TCG Player today, which is 5 days after this video was posted. Ulamog the Defiler is $34, Ulamog the Ceaseless Hunger is $45, and Ulamog the Infinite Gyre is $48.
Found my copy of Ulamog, Ceasless Hunger and Emerakul, Promised End a while ago. Been looking forward to using them in a deck.
nothing like Echoes of Eternity making them cast triggers even better!
whoop whoop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12:02 I use Use all 3 versions of Ulamog in my Isshin deck. Having even one of them on the battlefield is enough to swing the game into my favor. Getting more than one out is basically game over, man. I've been thinking about turning the deck into an all Annihilator deck with other effects like Archon of Cruelty to drain the opponents life.
Well, last time I checked Zhulodok was the most expensive in $75.
33€ on cardmarket, near mint and in english language.
My void windowed got destroyed by my dog before I had to get rid of her due to allergies. I can't belive it would be nearly $40s mostly only my lands cost that much as I only have phisical cards from playing prereleases.
You gotta laugh at the times where the special art versions of a card are cheaper than the normal ones. One of my favourites is the Eriette of the Charmed Apple, her alternative art card, looks like a thumb person.
A lot of these cards can be countered via Chef's Kiss or Torpor Orb effects.
I believe that Zhulodok should have shown up on this list. They've been $40 for quite a while and I doubt you'd count the non legal thick card in consideration for cheapest price
You technically forgot eye of ugin with the cheapest price on Cardkingdom about 41$ and the average of 59$.
No because he is talking about creatures and not additional helpful cards like lands or artifacts.
@@GeneticResearch that's why i said technically
@@dustfinger_until_dawn Then i dont understand 'technically' in this case.
@@GeneticResearch i meant that i count eye of ugin as an eldrazi card, because it supports the eldrazi tribe while not having the eldrazi type, which means it doesn't really count as an eldrazi, meaning he didn't made an error. Sorry if i used the wrong word which lead to a misunderstanding.
Eldrazis are cool, but the best ones are too killer for my wallet.
Would have liked to have a colorless Eldrazi EDH deck. Still really mad at the Commander Legends precon at extreme premium price point
When all of these cards exist, why is Atraxa still the premium 'cheat into play' target?? Genuine question
1) It is the best creature in Standard as the Eldrazi are Pioneer or earlier formats.
2) Atraxa has an Enter the Battlefield Ability to draw 3 or 4 cards on average.
3) Atraxa only costs 7 mana to hard cast compared to the 10+ needed for these Eldrazi.
4) Atraxa has flying, deathtouch, lifelink, and vigilance which means it can gain you life on attacks and still be a tough blocker to get by. The lifegain makes it almost impossible for aggro decks to win if they can't remove Atraxa before combat.
17:07
That's 12/12, my friend!
I don't expect any one person yoked with such endless statistics to not fumble one or two of them here and there. Just notifying ya'!
No excuse when he literally is reading from a script
@@latinojackson9694 what if the script is* the fumble?
Im surprised Slivdrazi Monstrosity didn't make the list
I have him also in my commander deck but he is illegal to play like all 'test cards'. That means you must tell your playgroup that you have such a card in your deck, you need the permit from others to play this card and in tournaments it is completely forbidden.
I’m actually very surprised emrakul aeons torn was so low as #10. I kind of expected her to be #1. Shows you what I know, lol
Being banned in Commander makes a big difference!
Genuine question, doesn't the new Kozilek's 'up to' function like a may ability?
"up to two" = "zero, one, or two"
4:39 "anyway letÄs keep sol ring legal"
Zhulodok no is way up there
Brobdingnagian.
That's a fancy word for Gigantic.
I had to look it up. What a word.
I already knew it. Always nice when people don't limit their lexicon.
@@christopherb501 A very sesquipedalian thing of you to say.
My guess is that 9 of them are the titans
Zhulodok was like 5€, now its like 50€.
If you play EDH, just get the plasTHICK one, to have it as your commander - no one will say NO, because it is a legit plasTHICK card.
33€ on cardmarket, near mint and in english language.
You may have missed the "cheap" version of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger as it was in that breakfast cereal themed Secret Lair. Not that I blame you for wanting to forget that double faced card as it is pretty ugly although 99% of the reason you bought that lair.
Surprised Zhuldok isn’t here, isn’t his card $50?
You can get a version of him for $2.49.
@@NizzahonMagic yes, however that’s the “display commander” version, which is not tournament legal as it’s on thick stock. I understand that it’s very confusing, but I would think it’s the equivalent of the oversized version of Sliver Queen.
If I’m wrong though, I’d be very pleased to know I can still get use out of the version I thought was just a decoration!
@@NizzahonMagic 33€ on cardmarket, near mint and in english language.
No Zhulodok, Void Gorger? It's 55$
33€ on cardmarket, near mint and in english language.
@@GeneticResearch yeah but he uses CK prices
Wow cardkingom overcharges by a lot .
Glad to see a new nizzahon video, fuck mana logs~
nr1 is a 12/12, not a 10/10. just nitpicking here ;)
Video idea: do this list again but don't include the three Titans.
i dont think emrakuls would be played in every commander deck she should just be banned as a commander because its too easy too loop her and take infinite turn
You failed to read the first card in the list correctly. Not "more than one color", "one or more colors". Well done.
I guess you could say that the Tories got...annihilated.
Lol, weird video to comment this on but pretty funny.
I'm trying to care about Eldrazi, but eff me, I gave them up as munchkin-bait back in 2012. Never even tempted to use them in a deck. Don't want to win that way, I guess.
Kozilek is literally $12 not $24
