How to Track a Mask in Final Cut Pro

Here’s how I tricked Final Cut Pro into tracking masks with 4 why-didn’t-I-think-of-that techniques. First, I’ll show you how to draw a custom, tracked mask and then I’ll show you how to highlight an object. After I’ll demo this low-key method for tracking custom shape masks like arrows and hearts no one is talking about and at the end I’ll hook you up with a free effect for quickly adding a trackable shape mask. For your last track mask tip, when I go to select a mask, there is no option for me to select a "Track Mask." I see all the other masks that you have on your screen (Draw Mask, Graduated Mask, Image Mask and Shape Mask) but not the Track Mask. What do I do to get a track mask there as an option?

You video suddenly shows the Bezier cursor without showing us how that is done. My cursor, going through your steps, never becomes a Bezier cursor to draw a mask. It remains an arrow and I cannot draw any paths at all.

When you add the draw mask effect to your clip, it automatically changes to the mask/bezier cursor when you hover over the viewer. Make sure you've selected the clip you added the draw mask effect to.
