- Have you wondered when such countries as France, Russia, Germany, Poland or Turkey (featuring the Ottoman Empire) reached their territorial peak? Answers to some of these questions are obvious, although it's not always the case. In this video, I would like to address these questions and show you the lesser-known history of Monaco, Georgia, Slovakia, Albania and many other countries. Moreover, each country's description features trivia with more or less known facts. Enjoy!

Could you make all territories a country has ever held in history?
And one more thing, Empires on a world map: Colonial for example

2:02 tough one for France because French Empire in 1812 would actually be bigger if you count the vassals states of Austria, Prussia, Poland, Confederation of the Rhine, Italy, Croatia and most of Spain
Austria wasn't really a client state of France, but rather just defeated by France to the point where they decided to ally the French Empire. But it was technically still a sovereign state.
Prussia, who's often depictured as defeated but sovereign, was in fact both a client state and under military occupation of France so yeah, I agree with you on that.
*Illyiran provinces and they were under direct French rule
Even tougher because Frankia and France aren’t really the same. France as we know it now starts with West Frankia.
The Franks also didn’t Romanize (aside from their religion)

Very cool video, only thing to say is that I think the greatest extent of Italy (as the Kingdom of Italy) was in 1941 as it still (not so much) controlled Italian East Africa, including Djibouti and Somaliland (invaded).
and libya too!
That should've been an Alternate, like it was with the other empires, but that was already taken by the Roman Empire, and he probably didn't want to spend time on another one
Great stuff!
Thank you!
Geography and space made something similar but not this detailed it love it!
Thanks! I am aware that there have been similar videos on the topic made in the past, but I wanted to make a more detailed version.
Weird to show Francia but not Napoleonic France. This is a video of every country greater extent but the greatest extent of "France" is Europe is not shown. Litteral France extended to Rome itself and to the river Elbe in the north, crazy.
Also colonial empire should be shown in a world map next to the main part, otherwise it gives the wrong impression.
And at least Napoleonic France is actually France. And not a pre-french kingdom of the early middle ages
I wished you’d show the whole empires including overseas territories
Great video!!
Thanks!
Do Asia next please!
Will do!
Finally, really good video from your channel! It is really cool.

yooo i wanted you to do this one, i sugested doing like a "lest extant" in a comunity post or somewhere but its a bad idea and the opposite is much better anyway.
The music is so relaxing
Ngl I kind of wish you zoomed out to show the whole world map when they had empires outside of Europe using those bubbles to show when they owned small islands of cities

3:06 great success!
Great job! Would of been cool if you showed the entire map for the greatest extent of empires though.
Thank you, and thanks for the feedback!
Surprised you didn't include Napoleon's France as an Alternate
can you tell me how to make these videos because i really like the map style of it and the smooth animations
Albania's Optional is the Kingdom of Epirus during Pyrrus of Epirus since the capital Finiq is in Albania.
Incredible shame of showing "France 1924" instead of France in 1812.
Negationistic at this point.
Azerbaijan largest extent is Afsharid empire
I expected to see Safevids for Azerbaijan as an alternative but oh well. Great video either way.

3:27 Offered to who? By whom? Was Austria or Germany offered Alaska in return for Liechtenstein becoming a Russian outpost?
5:10 1914? Wasn’t Russia’s greatest extent right before it sold Alaska?
about 3:27, you're misunderstanding the trivia, the country of Liechtenstein recieved an offer to buy Alaska
Husavi you should do a remake of all endings china. It's been a while and i want to see some new endings.
This will be a tough one due to the fact how large and diverse China is (both territorially and historically), but that's a great suggestion!
You could add Union between Commonwealth and Sweden as alternate for Poland
Or when Władysław Waza was tsar of Russia
@@rafakrzentowski9549he had never been crowned
this is SO ELEGANT! the mapping style is simple and medieval-like, the video feels 3d yet being 2d, & the information is simple but understandable!
With Switzerland an alternative could be the extend of the Zugewandte Orte, or "affiliated states". While loose compared to most affiliations for other countries, affiliated states were a building block of the confederacy before federalization after the napoleonic invasion.
Great video love your work
Please do asian countries as well
Thank you
great video, one thing is the polish-swedish union in the 1590's which could be considered for poland since the polish king inherited the swedish throne, love the video still!

Sweden's borders at 6:00 are wrong. Sweden only gained Trondhjem Len at the Treaty of Roskilde. You have also marked the northern part of Bergenhus Len as a part of Sweden. One can also argue that Denmark's greatest extent was around 1613, when Denmark owned Norway from Finnmark to Bohus Len, as well as Skåne, Halland and Blekinge. In 1782 Denmark of course had Greenland, but Greenland isn't shown on the map.
How do you make your maps?

Italy casually dropping the hardest empire ever existed

If Italy can claim Rome I feel like it’d be more fair for Greece to claim the Byzantium? Also there were more than one Serbian Empires, though short lived it was much larger than the one you’ve shown.
5:28 When the calm music started, he showed Yugoslavia
That was a mistake, Yugoslavia isn't Serbia
@@professionaldriver77878 Which is why it's shown as an alternate with the justification. Yugoslavia wasn't exactly Serbia, but there were voices among politicians opposed to the Vidovdan Constitution arguing it has essentially made Yugoslavia a Serb-hegemony state
@@HusaviProductions Mostly Croatian ones, since the King erased Serbian opposition 8 years ago when he became regent for aging King Peter.
You forgot to include Southern Italy at Hungary's greatest extent.
The problem is that the reign of Nagy Lajos over Naples and his reign over Poland are 19 years apart from each other (Naples 1347, 1350-1351, Poland 1370-1382)
2:28 Greece at the time didn't control the Dodecanese, but controlled Northern Epirus, a majority Greek region in southern Albania. Also, you forgot the Byzantine Empire

Bruh Albania greatest extent was when they were part of italy
4:45 Issue with using Poland Lithuania for Poland is that Lithuania was a separate entity in the Commonwealth along with the autonomous southern regions from the Kingdom of Poland
Didn't the Constitution of 3rd May reorganise the Commonwealth into a unitary state? I know that it was in power for like only 1 year but it was the last political system of Rzeczpospolita
@@pawejabonka5095it hadn't actually come into life, moreover it was after the first partition already, so not the greatest extent
I'd recommend using Poland-Lithuania as an alternate for both Poland and Lithuania. Lithuania's first was fine, Poland's first should've been the Crown of Poland after annexing Ukraine from Lithuania right before the second union.
@@ooi97 Good suggestion! If I ever do a remaster of this video to correct the mistakes, I'd go with this solution
Nope, the second union made Poland-Lithuania a Federation, one state
Is there a reason you didn't put League of Lezhë for Albania?
The Lezhë League's extent was smaller of that in 1941 when Albania was under the Italian protectorate
Denmarks largest extent was the North Sea Empire. Why did you make it just Denmark Norway/Kalmar Union?
I presume because it is a state founded from personal union (check it out on Wikipedia). Kalmar Union is also, but it is far larger than North Sea Empire.
Wasnt France bigger in Napoleonic era?
If we include the client states such as Italy, Warsaw and Helvetia, then yes. Otherwise, no
0:40 i’m pretty sure you’re conflating the aq qoyunlu and the qara qoyunlu on this map. The only person who held similar borders to that map in 1465 is Uzun Hasan, ruler of the Aq Qoyunlu.
Hence, "greatest extent"
@@cerebrummaximus3762 those are two different entities.
As far as I know, the Qara Qoyunlu did stretch from Eastern Anatolia to Kerman in 1465 during the reign of Jahan Shah
@@HusaviProductions Ah you're right. I always forget because they were brothers so I keep conflating the two^^; thank you for that!
Hmm, is Samo's Empire really considered as ancestor to Slovakia? If so, got any sources? Because all i can remember from school is our teachers saying Samo Empire is ancestor state to Bohemia/Czechia
It had most territory in modern czechia, but in reality it was a slavic union of many slavic tribes as slovaks and moravians, maybe sorbs and etc
Samo's empire is the ancestor of both Slovakia and Czechia. The reason his empire is shown for Slovakia is that there are not very many empires/ kingdoms that can represent greater Slovakia
@@quasario Yeah thats what i thought
"Capital was in Slovakia" is stated in video. Samo Empire begun with uprising of "Slavs on danube" against avars and avars controlled Slovakia at that time.
@@quasario False. Great Moravia, Duchy of Nitra can represent greater Slovakia.

1:25 Aphrodite is from my father's Homeland Cythera according to the oldest sources. Homer which was the first to talk about Aphrodite origin said she was born from the sea of Cythera island.
I'd love to see one of those about the Middle East
I really don't think personal unions should be included in these kind of "greatest extent of x/y country" bits. Still, great video!
True, I had a bit of trouble whether to include personal unions as the greatest extent of a country. When working on similar videos for other continents, the PUs/colonies/autonomous vassals/protectorates won't be included
A Portugal le puso "Territorios de ultramar" y a España "Imperio Colonial"
Why you didn't show Jagiellonian dynasty as alternate for Poland or Lithuannia when you shown other countries in personal unions like Poland with Hugary?
True, would've been as nice alternative
It's worth remembering that having dynasty members on thrones of different kingdoms didn't mean that they are already in a one big personal union; I only included the personal unions if the territories were ruled by a single monarch
oh, that makes sense@@HusaviProductions
From what I remember Crimean Khanate was the last successor state of the golden horde
Given the Kazakh Khanate emerged from a revolt against Nogai and Uzbek khanates which were created during the disintegration of the Golden Horde, it can also somewhat be considered as the indirect successor of the Ulug Ulus

Each place has its history, but I frankly don't see how exactly North Macedonia could ever be a heir to the ancient Kingdom of Macedon if that's what you'd like to suggest
Tehnically, it starts in 1942
Estonia's greatest extent was in the Estonian war of independence, where they nearly reached Petrograd and took a lot of Latvia.
6:05 actually before the napoleonic wars, switzerland held the region of sondrio in italy.
Depends if we include the Old Swiss Confederacy's associates as members of the Switzerland itself or not; Switzerland didn't directly control the Three Leagues and the Seven Tithings before the Napoleonic Wars
@@HusaviProductions i would say that would be an alternate then, rather than the greater extent

He was a bit too short to make the cut
Where is first French empire? It had colonies in Vietnam and Laos, Western Africa and North America, where its colonies had territories of the half of USA and Quebec, Canada. Also, second French empire controled the whole western Africa (1/3 of Sakhara desert territories, Morocco, Algeria, Togo, Mauritania, etc.) and still Vietnam and Laos. You could also add Napoleonic France, which controled 1/3 of USA, Benilux, most part of Spain, part of Germany, Northern Italy, part of Poland, etc.
upd: Russia was bigger in the May of 1945, when it controlled territories of the whole Eastern Europe and German territories eastern than Elbe river.
upd2: Yugoslavia was bigger after WW2, when it had Western Slovenia territories

it was a russian state
@@redcrown5154 There was no Russia.

Eh, given the rather... fuzzy borders of Dark Age Eastern Europe, the Ukrainian Hetmanate is probably the best choice in this case.
