Indonesia is the largest developing economy in Southeast Asia, with a gross domestic product of over US$1 trillion. The country’s size and location have made it Indonesia an attractive strategic partner for China and the United States to influence the Asean region. Indonesia has attempted to remain neutral in the China-U.S rivalry, but if tensions between the two continue to rise, will Indonesia be forced to take sides or adopt a foreign policy that doesn't align with either superpower?

Indonesia got $22Billion from russia investment, $14Billion approve from the US military and assistance + $3Billion energy project, and more than $18Billion multiyear investment from china. That is insane how they balance the diplomatic ties for their national interest. i mean, not every country can do that.

As Indonesian, I still think Indonesia needs to work on their own economic and military power if they want to remain neutral. Like it as not, both China and US are superpowers and given the inclination, they may be able to exert damaging pressure onto Indonesia, whether via coercion (too much economic dependence) or via guns (all out war). If Indonesia wants to remain neutral, they need to be strong both in military power and economical power, or the country will buckle.

      According to the documentary "Warmonger's"
It doesn't matter if you're neutral. They have different ways to target your country.
"When America wants to go to war with someone, we invent the reasons."
Take the Iraq war and the Afghanistan war for example.
Anyone remember this history? 1965 Indonesia coup.
CIA involvement in coup 1965 is one great example on how the west took sides by supplying weapons, made propaganda and indirectly killed more than 3 million innocent lives. Their strategy is based on "divide and conquer". This document was declassified by CIA because many activists around the globe condemn the war crimes of US and their allies. Not only that, CIA overthrew the legit president of indonesia and replaced it with a corrupt Suharto who supported the US. That's how US mining company 'freeport' got hold of indonesian biggest gold mine.
Declassified files outline US support for 1965 indonesian massacre - National Security Archive.
      --Jeff Lith
      And this
Even today in 2022, this is still happening. People have forgotten how a vial of detergent was used by colin powell to wage an illegal WMD war against Iraq, killing millions of Iraqis.
Now they are using the same Cold War strategy to brainwash their citizens and the world for another hybrid war against Russia and China. Hence the Xinjiang cotton propaganda going on now spread by a homophobic right wing religious nut case German called Adrian Zenz.

Neutrality DOES matter, because it may prevent you from getting involved in a conflict between other parties. If you were allied to one of those parties, there's a high risk you would also be a target. That's basic logic for children. Neutrality cannot protect you from everything. Now, for our country to pursue a true independent foreign policy like India and Indonesia, the Philippines needs to abrogate its Mutual Defense Treaty, Visiting Forces Agreement as well as the EDCA. We need to invest more in our armed forces to finally stop relying on foreign powers who we all know are all bark and no bite, we should also be pragmatic on dealing with terrirtorial disputes with our Neighbour, China. We shouldn't antagonize them as they can be our partner for the future.

Their strategy is based on "divide and conquer". This document was declassified by CIA because many activists around the globe condemn the war crimes of US and their allies. Not only that, CIA overthrew the legit president of indonesia and replaced it with a corrupt Suharto who supported the US.
