That wouldn't be many people - but you're right. Bowie once said in an interview (mid 90s), that 'Wild is The Wind' (he sang it live a few times) was as close to his natural singing voice amongst all the songs he performed in his entire career.
"Wild Is the Wind" is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the 1957 film Wild Is the Wind. Johnny Mathis recorded the song for the film and released it as a single in November 1957.

Agree! Beautiful song with exuberant power drumming and a late-sixties vibe to other parts of the sound (Traffic, Small Faces, The Byrds. Rolling Stones around the tine of "Street Fighting Man", etc)

Another great choice, I saw him twice in the 70s, unforgettable great concerts ! He lived here in my hometown Berlin for a few years, after his tragic death, the street where his flat was located is named in David-Bowie-Straße.

The song Aladdin Sane (vs the album) has the best piano solo I have ever heard on it. Mike Garson is the piano on that album and was in Bowie's band at his death.
The song "Stay" on this album is fire. Earl Slick on a blistering guitar.
Yeah indeed, very difficult to choose a favorite Bowie, but Stay could possibly be the one!!...
Live version of Stay is the best. Bowie says " We've done this one as a rhumba & a march". Hilarious! But then they KILL it.

My vote goes to Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) 1980. One of his best, and I love Bowie when he pushes his voice

Word on a Wing is a beautiful track.
Bowie is a seeder, his music and message grows and grows.....with age I now understand how truely unique he was.
his lyrics are always ten steps ahead of you and as soon as you think you've got it, he's a 10 years in front and if you dare to get one past him , lyrically he'll open your door and ................... nothing i can add, still working on it.
Bowie can more or less go anywhere. If you want some 70s Glam Rock, then the Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane albums are the way to go. He even dabbles in some heavier rock with 'The Man who sold the World' album which is almost Zeppelin-esque'. 'Width of a Circle' and 'All the Madmen' are 2 of my favourites from there.
Then if you want some weird ambient/experimental rock stuff, go for his Berlin era albums 'Low, Heroes, Lodger'.
It's hard to say a favourite album for me, it just depends what mood you're in.

David Bowie was such an amazing artist, a chameleon. Love his cover of this old standard ballad. I don't recall him doing many ballads but he did this wonderfully!
The whole world was in mourning. So true. I was working in the US when he died (I’m a Brit) , woke up to the news. It just floored me. I screenshot the news feed, just shocked, in disbelief. A true world artist. My brother is much older than me, huge Bowie fan and bizarrely they lived in the same city in Switzerland. The local cinema put on English language versions of movies and my bro was in there one day. Bowie walks in, with Imam, sits behind my bro. Bro apologised for disturbing him but just wanted to shake his hand, ‘I’m a huge fan’ sort of thing. Bowie probably had that a million times, but he was cool and polite. Amazing
I was on the Golden Gate Bridge when I heard it on the radio! I was in total shock and had nowhere to pull over and had to will 😢myself to the end of the bridge.

Young Americans is a great album but he has a lot of those...
Beautiful ballad, it really showcases what a good singer he was: he is getting the most out of every line without ever sounding forced or contrived. Here is another great vocal performance, from the years just before "Let's dance" when he was mostly acting in films and taking a break from major recording: the original version of "Cat People", the theme for an intriguing movie with Nastassja Kinski morphing between girl and panther (yes!). A superb film theme and Bowie really shines as a singer - this is a killer vocal show...He re-recorded the song for the Let's Dance album, with a more funk-rock sound, but the original (produced by Giorgio Moroder) is the real deal.

Nina Simone's version from 1966 is probably the version Bowie heard. It was originally the theme song for a 1955 film sung by Johnny Mathis

Great reaction. This is one of my all time favourites which I first heard in the 1960s on a vinyl of my Mum's. It was written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington for the film of the same name in 1957. It was first recorded by Johnny Mathis for the film then released as a single reaching 22 on the Billboard chart. Many years later I heard David Bowie's version again from my Mum's record and it became my favourite version and song. It's romantic and evocative feel speaks to the beauty of Bowie's own relationship with his wife whose live continued until his tragic death. I felt very close to Bowie living in Sydenham, London England not far from his childhood home and my daughter attending the same school albeit the girls half. Sorely missed. UK 👍

This song is sublime. One of my favorites. I only got to see him once, it was opening night of the Serious Moonlight Tour in Philly. He filmed it for the video Modern Love from that album. Another favorite is Young Americans which he recorded in Philly. ✌️♥️🎶

I think the drummer in this song was also in the band Simple minds.I discovered this song when I was a 19 year old and I think I played it on a loop for a couple years 😂 Absolutely beautiful. Now at 61 years of age ,it still has the same impact. I absolutely love Bowie ❤

My friend Candy was in a film with David and she said she knew of him, but had never listened to his music and said she was glad she hadn't listened to his music beforehand because she probably would have fainted when he walked in the room. 😅
My personal favorite David Bowie album is SCARY MONSTERS (AND SUPER CREEPS) which has some of RobertvFripp's best work ever on it and even Pete Townsend plays on a song. It's "out there" in the best way.

Being a David Bowie fan starting in the late sixties I'm going to say my two favorite albums are first Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars and Diamond Dogs both those albums are really worth sitting down and listening cover to cover anyhow enjoy

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard - Bowie is almost Operatic here - "During the height of their fame, Nina Simone and David Bowie had struck up a strong friendship over a prolonged period of time, one which would even result in the Englishman covering Simone's glorious 'Wild Is Wild' to appear on his Station To Station album in 1976

There's some humming backing vocals which convert to subverbal sounds like, "Cha!" It's unique the way only David could come up with. I love it!

Peak Bowie crooning - Don't You Know Your Life... Itself Nina Simone also does a comparably beautiful version. I'm not so keen on the Mathis original (although he's great). It's a beautiful love song. My vote would be the relatively early Hunky Dory, but tbh any of the 70s output- they're all outstandingly good.

All rock guitar had a heavy Spanish influence I think. Some of Jimi Page's solos illustrated that better than I can say it. And a lot of others. But I'm no expert just going by the sound not breaking down chord charts.

Very much inspired by the Nina Simone cover of this song which Bowie knew.
Go back to HunkyDory - you will see how he evolved over the years. The lyrics of 5 years from the Ziggy Stardust album are almost prophetic and right up to Valentines Day on his posthumous album shows his mastery. Love the fact that you are reviewing this.
Partly because the opening track on this album ("station to station", which u already listened to) is ten minutes long, , or three songs long, this whole album only has six tracks on it, & u did "stay", & now this song, making three, i highly reccomend u listen to the last 3, "tvc15", "golden years", & "word on wing"...i just say it cuz youve listened to half the album & are digging it, & youve done more than just put ur toe in, u might as well just take the full plunge, lol....anyway, great reaction as always, man.
Then youll have an album for ur playlist/collection of albums to freely listen to without having to worry about spoiling reaction material....i actually dont recommend this albums to newbs, but, when i was about two or three years into my bowie fandom, this album pretty much became my fave & it remains to this day....just my opinion, many like the next album more, which is also amazing, its just imho that this album was just the peak for me, or the start of the peak.
