  • For this episode of Signal Colors I'm taking a look at the Death by Audio Echo Dream 2 - a wild modulated delay with fuzz - and it's an interesting ride indeed. DBA sent this over for me to take a look at and share with you today, so let's check out how it sounds paired with the Roland TR-606 and the SH-101!

I created Signal Colors because I wanted to create the kind of overview, demo, and review videos I like to see on CZcams but can never find enough of - a straightforward look at pedals/effects with electronic music gear as the priority. Come back to see a new episode every 2 weeks and please leave a comment if you feel like being part of the conversation. I welcome questions, I enjoy the discussion, and I'd really appreciate any constructive feedback you could give me. I'd like to make this as helpful as I can for as many people as possible. Thanks for checking it out!

You just made me realize I can try this with my echo dream 2 and my Casio pt50

Okay, it's very much like a BBD actually. Thought it would be a little brighter, but sounds great.

You’re totally right, sounds dark and very much like a BBD style delay. It’s pretty cool and I’m definitely a fan of the square wave modulation, touchy but sounds pretty awesome if you find a sweet spot! :)

@@Duskmos yes it's very similar or the same thing as with my Deluxe Memory Boy. That square wave modulation somewhat adding a 2nd sequence in a different pitch on top or under the source. But that makes sense, since square waves are used for turning (gating?) The note on and off in sequencers in the analogue realm at least.
My DMB is a little too dark though. But I do also have a VD400 that is a little brighter, so having those 2 chained together can sort of compensate, plus I can make these pseudo multihead repeats. I was just about to sell the DMB and return the VD400 to buy a Echo Dream 2, but it'll still be to expensive for me at the moment. And I think it's fine with what I got.

Are you using the delay in the 606 in conjunction?

    • @Duskmos

Nope! This is an original analog TR-606 from the 80’s so no built in effects at all. :)
