STORY:
Douglas Corrigan was an aviator, nicknamed "Wrong Way" in 1938. After a transcontinental flight in July from Long Beach, California, to New York City, he then flew from Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn to Ireland, though his flight plan was filed to return to Long Beach.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Great story! I noticed clover in abundance around his gravestone..amazing coincidence if not planted there!
good eye, didn't notice that!!
@@FacesoftheForgotten off of Chapman?
Great eye!
More power to Wrong Way Corrigan! Kudos to him for doing what he wanted. This is a great story.
It was so good to hear this story again. I've heard it all my life! My mother's family used the term "Wrong Way Corrigan" all the time!
My maiden name is corrigan.and yes my dad was related to this guy .my dad would get teased relentless all his life but he always made good fun of it .I didn't know it was a true story until I was an adult .
Lol thanks for sharing this one!
With all the love possible to my father, who taught me to drive,(not knowing at the time I had dyslexia 🤣)I recieved the nickname of Wrong Way Corrigan! I had no idea at the time who he was but thought he must have been the worst driver in the world!
Thank You Ron.You brought back great memories!🥰
I’ve always heard it was just a mistake. Thank you for not only setting the record straight but making him a hero in my eyes now. Awesome story, awesome man! RIP Wrong Way. ❤️ great video. 👍🏻
I was like you Connie!
While I was working at the airplane factory one of my coworkers got his private pilots license and was going on weekend jaunts. My friend (who is a pilot) said that he would go on a short trip with him to check out his piloting skills. Well the new pilot was so scary 😟 my friend wasn’t sure they were going to land safely. They landed okay but it was at the Wrong Airport! 🙈 So he was known as “Wrong Airport Bert” my friend never flew with Bert again. Thanks for the great story Ron! God bless you and Happy Easter. 🙏🕊
Sounds like my brothers boating skills. We almost sank when the motors quit, so besides bailing water for hours, we had white t shirts waving SOS to small planes going over . After about six hours of trying to push the 20 ft. boat off the sand bar. Around dusk the Coast Guard towed us in & we got squared away. This was the last time myself & my children sailed with “Uncle”, no flares or life vests on board. 3 adults 4 children, only my youngest had a life vest, only because I took it because it was a child’s size & I figured there were only adult vests on board. Harrowing day all round.
This story needed to be told. God Bless America.
He is huge here in Ireland, my grandfather would always talk about Wrong Way Corrigan, RIP 🇮🇪 ❤ 🇺🇸 ☘
I'm very surprised back then a light aircraft would carry enough fuel to fly from New York to Ireland , especially with a fuel leak , very brave man 😮 .
Efficiency is key no doubt
It’s a bit farther apart now because of the swallowing bits of land per second over the years. And continent’s drifting.
Someone else posted that they heard the term "Wrong Way" used at football games when a fumble is picked up and they run to the opponents goal. I always thought it came from that. Thank you for making this video. Excellent work.
LOVE this story. He stood for what we would hope we could all be. Thanks for such a fun story. I admire and respect how much time you commit to all of these stories. Thanks Ron
Great story I never knew the meaning behind wrong way corrigan. Really cute. Thanks !
Wow, learning more and more each day with you Ron!!! Thanks for sharing this excellent story with us!!!🙏😇🙂👏👏👏
Love it he never gave up found way to make his dream come true never took no for a answer 💟💟💟💟
Absolutely loved Douglas’s story , lived in an era when dreams and adventures could come true , thanks Ron from a U.K. fan .
Since I was born and raised in Cali yes I did. My Mom and Dad forever used that term. Nice to hear the complete story. Wasn’t John Denver flying an experimental plane when he went down? Hughes and the spruce goose.
yes he was, but in that case it was pilot error.
@@FacesoftheForgotten I believe so but it’s interesting what you taught us about the term. You’re a well healed man and we all benefit
@@FacesoftheForgotten To be fair, John Denver was in a plane with a poorly placed reserve tank switch.
I've heard the name, but don't remember the story of this man! Thanks for bringing it to us Ron! He didn't go the wrong way at all! He knew what he was doing and good for him!
Funny side note, my Dad had a pilots license way back, for a small plane. And darn, no one put those directional signs up in the sky. He landed in another state, like 100+ miles off course! 😆
And you also love ❤ saying "Nope"! 😆 💕
Loved this episode Rest in peace Douglas
Such an interesting story! I love how you bring them to life once again!
Awesome!!! I believe in traveling to the beat of my own drum!! Kudos to wrong way, he definitely deserved all the fanfare and notoriety. Rest in Peace, much respect for you. 🙏
Awesome story!! My Dad owned a Taylor-craft which sat in our garage for years with the wings off while he tinkered on it. He was a machinist for McDonnell Douglas until he retired. I was the only kid in the neighborhood with a plane in the garage 🤣. I never saw it fly. When he died, my brothers and I donated it to Wings of Hope. Love this story of Wrong Way. Smart guy!! Thanks for sharing this story, Ron 💜💜
cool legacy, imagine, how exciting in those days, knowing that was in your garage; your big exciting long term project!! how cool it must have been, flight and flying was all new and evolving, and open for those willing to take a chance and invent.
R.i.P Douglas, enjoyed this story, thanks Ron and stay safe out there 🙂
I agree with you about Lindbergh. Never hear about Wrong Way but it's comical. Another good video, thanks.
Back in an age when people dared big things.
What a great 👍interesting story Ron! That was amazing how he knew what to do with that fuel leak! Smart guy! God rest his soul!
Hi Ron from the UK very interesting story never knew any of this.this is why I love your channel you learn so much history of the people you talk about and there graves you go to.stay safe looking forward to the next one.
Optimistic and inspiring man. Fun story Ron. Thanks again. 😊👏
What a guy! Only in America does this guy become a legend! Great story!
Wow, very interesting story! Honestly I had never heard of him until your video. Thank you for presenting all these interesting stories and “bringing the forgotten back!” So many tragic, horrific, and yet whimsical like “Wrong Way Corrigan!“
9:50 What a fix he was in and with just a few snacks to eat. The fuel leaking inside...all those fumes. It sounds like it is going to be disasterous.
11:54 I cannot believe he made it and he didn't run out of fuel!
13:29 The newspaper headline printed in reverse. So funny! I bet that was the only time that was ever done!
13:57 Wow, movie deal, game show, huge amount of money and set for life. That totally turned out great for him in the end. I didn't see it coming. Such an unexpected and happy end to the story! Thank you doing this story! I hadn't heard this story. Seems like he would be talked about far more throughout history than Lindbergh. I had not heard of this guy and I'm so glad to learn about him. 😃
Well...I can see this happening and more then once as they didnt have the technology back then that we have today.I have never heard if this guy before today, but thank you for bringing us his story..Thanks again Ron.
But he didn't notice he was flying over water instead of land??????
Pretty sure they had Compasses lol
This reminds me of one of my parent's friends when I was a kid. He tried to build an airplane in his basement. He took years working on it. He succeeded and it flew but tragically, it crashed, killing he and his wife.
I knew that cemetery looked familiar! My grandparents lived for many years in the neighborhood across the street.
What a great story to be told Ron. Talk about having some intestinal fortitude to fly that distance leaking fuel all the way !! Unbelievable.
Rest in peace Mr. Corrigan & everyone. I remember when he showed up on Gillian's Island on one episode lol not the real man but still funny back then. On to Tell The Truth, you could say (That's his story & he's sticking to it). Stay safe Sir & everyone. Thank you for this story.
& why is this such an encouraging story? I don't know, but it lifts my heart. Thanx Ron.
Loved this, I had heard the phrase "Wrong way Corrigan" but had no idea of the whole story. Where's there's a will, there's a way. Thank you Ron, so entertaining!
Oh, those intrepid Irish!! ☘️ I knew about Wrong Way Corrigan, but not the finite details of his exciting escapade. He certainly deserves more accolades than Charles Lindbergh. Love his headstone. He WAS industrious, Ron! Rest in Perpetual Peace, Douglas Corrigan. And may I say … YOU ROCK! ✈️☘️
I agree!!!!!!!!!!!
Very interesting story about this man Douglas Corrigan and Ron you did a great job telling his story...it kept my interest... He made a name for himself on flying the wrong way even thou he knew what he was doing. Funny but interesting 💕.....thanks for sharing this story with all of us ...I enjoy watching and seeing the world around you as you do these stories..... take care and safe travels.....stay safe out there wherever you go....💕.
Thank you for this great story. I always figured he knew what he was doing all along. I was pleasantly surprised to learn his final resting place was at Fairhaven. My late uncle worked at this cemetery for over 30 years.
Another American hero! Thanks Ron.
Ive never heard the story, but so glad that i heard it from you. What a man. Thankyou 💚
I saw the plane at the museum one year. Never knew he was buried at Fairhaven. In summertime, they sometimes set up live bands at the cemetery and it's cool. Went to several of them before I moved to Nashville. Awesome story!
Loved the video. I knew Corrigan's story long before I got my private ticket. Shouldn't they have dug his grave perpendicular to all the other plots? Love your channel. Thanks!
Always heard of "Wrong Way Corrigan" , now I know his story , thank You , Ron ! Crazy story , cool man !
I've heard of it but didn't know the whole thing so thanks
Eating my lunch and enjoying this great story!

Very determined Man ! Went for the gusto !Be Independent.
Hello, my jaw dropped over the beauty of those mature trees. Nice cemetery and an interesting story.
Hurrah for the Irish. Quite a guy.
This was a great story, and you filled in a bunch of "pieces" I did not know about! Thank You!
Another Winning Vid.Ron Thanks!
What a great man, the song "I did it my way" comes to mind. I had never heard of this before today, so glad I have now.
Better late than never always love your videos 😁😁😁😁💟
That's a great story! Wow, so many interesting stories out there yet to be discovered!
Not heard this story before, thanks Ron for yet another fascinating post.
This is a funny story. Sometimes things work out for the best when you have a screw up. I'm glad this man had a good life.
I used to have a priest named Fr. Corrigan, SJ and was my mentor and friend. He told me to STUDY! But I remember hearing of this Wrong Way Corrigan guy who made me think of Father.
I have heard about Wrong Way Corrigan just don't know his whole story. So it was no mistake after all, he put a up a charade and fooled everyone. Turns out his un-worthy plane was not that un-worthy after all. Great story telling Ron. I thought his grave was way to simple for a man with such inspirations and goals; got a dream go for it. Fly high Douglas.
Some new details to old story that learned when I was ten now I`m 69 and a pilot too. Thanks.
Wow, that is amazing, I would have been terrified in that little plane, thanks Ron for another history lesson xx
Busy moving decorating papering plastering still try and squeeze FOTF thanks for sharing ron...

RIP Douglas 'Wrong Way' Corrigan!! XXXX
Thanks Ron! Great story.
I never heard of this guy. Thank you for video. I learn alot from your videos.
Since your in California and doing a bit on aviation, can you do a vlog of Lawnchair Larry. This story is over 35 years old and still it still cracks me up with the mishaps that happened during his weather balloon flight. Thanks.
unfortunately, I have been back in Chicago since Sunday, will keep in mind for next time, ty.
Great video. I enjoyed this so much 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great story! He must’ve been a very interesting guy.
Fun story!! I really enjoyed this one!
Wow! What a cool story. That’s awesome!
I really enjoyed the story, and the ironic thing is that my uncle has the last name Jones. I have heard the phrase so many times and now I know where it came from. Great story.

"Where there's a will, there's a way!"
I forgot about him 🙏 Thanks what an imazing life 🧐
What a bizarre story - never heard of it. Wow 28 hours is unbelievable! What a way to get to Ireland! 😮
Great video today!!
Remember the episode of Gilligan's Island were there was a pilot who was famous for going the wrong way, they made two of them and of course hoping to get rescued. Over the years I've read his story more than a few times.👍♥️🇺🇸
“Crash” Corrigan went by the name Ray in his movies. I don’t think you mentioned that he had a place in Simi Valley for movies to shoot, called Corriganville. Many westerns were filmed there. It was bought by Bob Hope (I’m not sure if it was the late ‘60s or the ‘70s) and the name was changed to Hope Town. Eventually there were two different brush fires that burned all of the sets - all that remains are the foundations. I remember that, as I lived in Simi Valley.
Also, there is not a single reference anywhere that talks about his burial at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills - every reference to his death says that he is in an unmarked grave in Inglewood Park Cemetery. This disturbs me to no end! I tried to edit the Wikipedia article but couldn’t find how to do it. The best I could do is to suggest that the reason nobody can find his grave in Inglewood is because it’s in the Hollywood Hills.
Perhaps you could figure out how to get the correct information out there.
I’m frustrated.
Gilligan's Island show did an episode where Wrong Way Corrigan lands on the island.
