  • The Pendle Way is a 45 miles hike in the rolling hills and moors of Lancashire. Due to the limited daylight hours of winter this expedition was undertaken over a long weekend of three days and two nights of wild camping.
This video reflects the challenges faced on the second day of hiking and also the wild camp that happened on the second night. The second day of hiking started around 7am in the morning when the first glimpses of daylight happened.
From the outskirts of Earby we pack away our wild camp and head up and over the hill towards the Black Lane End Pub. From here we achieve the hill top of Knarrs Hill where we admire the rising sun. From here we visit the village of Laneshaw Bridge and eventually we arrive at Wycoller village and Hall. We explore the ruins of the hall and closely study the various ancient bridges of the village.
Now we follow the Pennine Bridleway over the moors. When we are on the moors we identify that we have reached half way, We escape the moors through a woods in full autumn colour which we admire. From here we are on a track that is deep in mud which a herd of cows seem to use to block our way. However, we eventually manage to get past the cows and take the stepping stones to cross the river.
Out in the countryside we happen to pass Southfield Methodist Church. It is here that we note that John Wesley preached in 1786 and still Sunday services are held in this remote location.
At the bottom of the country lane leading from the Methodist we see that Walverden Reservoir comes into view. We skirt the premiere of the reservoir and then head west to cut through the outskirts of Nelson and cross the M65.
Two miles further we find a spot where we decide to wild camp in a forrest near the River Calder. We take stock of progress and get ready for the following day on the Pendle Way.
