  • The Pendle Way is a 45 mile hike in the rolling hills and moors of Lancashire. Due to the limited daylight hours of winter, this expedition was undertaken over a long weekend with three days of hiking and two nights of wild camping.
This video reflects the challenges faced on the third day of hiking following the wild camp that happened on the second night. The third day of hiking started around 7am in the morning when the first glimpses of daylight happened.
Having camped in a woods near a stream we now had to descent a hill to arrive at the shores of the River Calder. We followed the path of the river for a mile or so, before we venture away from the river following a sign provided by the Peaks and Northern Society. Around here we we discuss the design of the Pendle Way sign post, as the lack of an arm means that the signs are sometimes difficult to spot.
Next we enter Higham village and admire the village hall. Onwards, to Newchurch and we see that the church was built in 14th century. Next we find ourselves descending the steps at Fell Wood. When we emerge out of the woods we spot Ogden Lower Reservoir. We head along the path towards the upper reservoir but at a gate before the reservoir we discover a sign which states the footpath ahead is closed until further notice. However, on the map we choose alternatives to overcome this issue.
From Upper Ogden Resvoir, we now hear up onto Pendle Hill. We note this is a better approach up the hill compared to the usual route chosen by many from Barley. At the top of Pendle Hill we admire the fact that in reality the hill is more of a plateau at 15 square miles .
Next we descent into Barley where we admire the pubs and houses. We leave Barley and walk along the track which follows Whitehough Water. This leads us to a beautiful autumn woods. From here it is mainly downhill into Barrowford but we do along way admire an abandoned ruinous farm and barn, We enter the back streets of Barrowford admiring the old cotton mill streets and houses.
In Barrowford we admire the old Toll house which displays the tolls that would have been collected in the past and we eventually finish at Pendle Heritage Centre.

Many thanks for 3 great videos. As you go into a lot of detail, I almost felt I was there, which is handy, as I'm competing in the Pendle Way in a Day Ultra race in February. Will also doing a recce before hand, but have shown me the way!
