I'm half black and half white (actually a little more white according to a DNA test) and I actually really find it hard to fit in still, as a 44 year old woman. I was living in a small town in Maryland and I was the only person of (any) color at my job and I was miserable, mostly because they were SO RACIST. I left there and moved to Philadelphia where I work with predominantly black people and I'm only slightly less miserable because I'm not like anyone. I only date Asian men, I listen to you and Broadway musicals at work, I'm vegan (sorry Uncle Roger). I think if I could pass as fully black I'd still have a hard time fitting in. Neither of my parents said "this is how we're raising them" so I kind of ended up taking after my mom, who was white, because I was always with her. My son is 3/4 white and he is so unique. He plays in a rock band but he loves rap, he knows he's part black but not black enough for it to effect his life in the negative way it could but he has compassion for the struggle. In summation, it can be hard to be mixed if you don't have a strong sense of self. I think all mixed race kids should be exposed to all of their cultures and maybe grow into what they're most comfortable with, not their parents.

Being mixed race isn't difficult. I'm 1/2 Indian, 1/4 Jamaican, 1/4 English(i look kinda Indian, but also English and Jamaican..), i always just tick the 'mixed race' box and say i'm mixed-race, and because of that i get judged a lot less than you must by ticking Asian, or any other minority in this country. I fit in amongst most people because they don't know 'what i am', but they're too scared to ask, so they just forget about race around me, which is excellent, to just be treated like a person, not a white person/black person/East Asian person, etc. Indians in general i've noticed tend to integrate on principle(because it's the most intelligent thing to do)so they get along well with all kinds of people, white people make an effort to get along with others, Jamaicans are so friendly they get along with everyone too, it's only East Asians i've seen who seem to segregate themselves for no reason, Muslims and Jewish people do that too, for all different reasons though, i think East Asians think that non-East Asians are ugly, diseased, and stupid, and Muslims have it in their holy book that non-Muslims aren't really great, and i think Jewish people segregate themselves due to historical issues of when they try to integrate they get killed and their teachings include not forgetting quite a bit... And the only person who ever bullied me did it because she was jealous or something, she kept calling me barbie because of my make-up choices, and following me around so i punched her in the neck. Do confront your bullies if you don't want to be a weak person.

Identity is incredibly hard being mixed race, there isn't a simple answer to "Where are you from" that will satisfy anyone's curiosity. I'll say that I'm English because it's the easiest to get away with. Mainly because of my Southern British accent, but I'm also tanned (Filipino) and grew up in the Middle East so I have some of their habits. Some people have outright asked "What's your ethnicity", which I don't mind.

yeah, imo it's more annoying when people try to be PC and ask indirectly. When people ask "Where are you from?" I like to be petty and reply, "Here" (because I've lived in the area my whole life) instead of giving them the ethnic information they really want, but are too scared to ask. 😂

Well, that explained something. I was watching a comedy show on TV last night and I saw this thing in the programme's Dictionary Corner that was so pale, indistinct and shiny I thought they'd got the Hubble Space Telescope as a special guest. After a couple of minutes I realised it was Nigel.
I guess that's what happens when you share your theories on male celebrities and make-up artists before a show.
Hint: never piss off your make-up artist - they can make it look like your nasal hair is refracting light if they want to.
