Evelyn has such a healthy way of thinking about differing opinions. It's not a disagreement, we're just discussing our different life experiences and no one is right or wrong 👏🏽👍🏽 It's also really hard to do I must say...to share with someone a different perspective and not feel the need to convince them. It isn't an MCQ question with just one right answer.

I love this episode. As an Asian born American, I feel like Nigel speaks my inner thoughts about American born Asians and Evelyn explaining why they need to be INNER thoughts. Very thought provoking and funny! Great work 👍🏼

Also, it's also about the upbringing of a family. We have families who live in Malaysia but were so bananas. And when the children were sent to overseas to study, they adapt well and like it there. And never return.
And they are pure Malaysian families? Or are they foreign families who happen to start families in Malaysia?

I completely agree with Evelyn, her background is very cohesive and aesthetically pleasing. Nigel's background is starting to get very cluttered with so many different colors and styles 😅 I mean it's fine it's what he likes...but I like Evelyn's much better
Why does Nigel think someone else’s experience has to entertain them. An experience can be common, but he sees cliché instead. Evelyn is right: it’s dismissive.

Evelyn is constantly dismissive of Nigel’s views. She implies he has a simplistic view of things and he doesn’t have the level of empathy that she has. Why the sense of victimhood when it’s her view that gets dismissed?
Just because he pointed out her experience was common and she added no new insight? It’s true. She didn’t.
As an aside, I don’t think being Chinese in a white community is the source of Evelyn’s insecurity and unresolved issues. Many of us in the Chinese diaspora have a whale of a time being half and half (see Fresh off the Boat and all the actors in that - comfortably Asian American). She has more in common with people growing up bullied, overweight and unattractive in the western world. They’re the people you often see who have lasting trauma and self-esteem issues.

I grew up in Asia and yeah there are a lot of perks of growing up immersed (drowning actually) in Asian culture. I think that the most challenging thing for Asians who grow up in Asia is that if they have a different way of thinking and realize how people are so ingrained with norms that they don't even realize that some of them believe in stereotypes so much. It's actually a big problem here in PH like how there are many people who dislike Chinese, think white guys who visit Cebu and Pampanga are indecent, and guys who drive a Civic is a fuck boy.
Myself born and raised in the US (I come from a Mexican family), I do realize my life would be different had I been born in Mexico. However, I am glad I was born in the US, for if I hadn't, I perhaps wouldn't be the same person I am today. I've also always liked the fact there is so much cultural diversity here, that I wonder if I would or wouldn't have been introduced so much to other cultures (like Chinese and east asian cultures) as I did here in the US.
It´s very different how you look at things when you´re a single cultured person than a multicultural one... I was born in Argentina and raised in between a clash of two cultures and sincerely I disagree with Nigel saying you never feel you belong... It is different when you moved some place else once you've grown instead of having been born there... And you don't loose contact with your original culture... That highly depends on how your parents decide to raise you and instruct you... I totally agree with Evelyn on this take... Growing up I also felt like a paria, and was not infused by my parents with that asian proud that I feel now... I wish I had been but the way I see it is that it was precisely that lack of proudness and misunderstanding of my own culture that made me appreciate it more now and made me be so proud of my roots now...

What is the cardboard box looking thing on Nigel’s left hand side? I think Nigel should space out the drawings on the wall and add plants 🪴 i suggest a few pothos.
I think Evelyn should put the Stockholm painting on the wall next to the bookshelf and get a bold graphic image to sit on the table. A larger image. More plants 🪴 few Evelyn too but in pots.

The gym lighting does make you look better. I feel like the mirroe in the male changing room also make us look more wide, i have no prove but I am sure the mirror in the female changing room makes ladies look slimmer haha.
Nigel’s background is cluttered with self-promotion (although the new plant is lovely), and Evelyn’s is not. I do want to change Evelyn’s camera angle (and the placement of her foliage) for the split screens, but it’s perfect when she’s full screen with Nigel’s thumbnail in the upper left.
Nigel is right, people do misuse gaslighting constantly! Glad I'm not the only one that bothers lol. P.S. I'm a new viewer and enjoying you guys so much already! 💜

Did anyone notice Nigel's voice drop real low around 24:50? I wonder if Nigel has worked to speak in a higher register over the years and naturally had a lower voice. In my opinion (as a black woman), my voice was lower and full so whenever I spoke from age 13 and up especially on the phone it sounded suggestive to other people. So by age 16 when I was looking for a job I had been working on speaking in a higher register than my natural voice so I could be taken seriously.

You know I tried to watch the yellow lives matter on my phone when it came out. It was saying that the video was not allowed. That was when I realized. I was connected to my works wifi network. (I work for a corporate medical facility). Nigel is very right.
