As a french person myself, i am very happy that the french va's finally gets a bit of recognition, and i dont wanna brag at all, i like all of the others (some better than others) but im happy that the french version of a movie sounds actually good for once :)

Fun fact : In french, Mario is dubbed by Pierre Tessier, the usual french dub of Ryan Reynolds wich explain the more high pitched and more enthusiastic voice since Reynolds is a kinda comedic actor

Here in Brazil, Mario is being voiced by Rafael Rossatto, who is Chris Pratt's official voice actor in Brazil, it's funny to see that his "Brazilian voice" managed to interpret the character better than himself.

European French and Brazilian Portuguese are the ones who sound exactly how Mario should be for bringing the superstar into the spotlight and I met Pierre Tessier back in 2021 whose officially the French voice of Mario just like how he did with Deadpool for giving attitude, energy, personality and enthusiasm that everyone remembers for his talented voice acting skills! 😊

Mario’s voice actor in the portuguese dub is the same actor that makes the Chris Pratt voice here in Brazil, this explains the more deeper voice. He tried to emulate the italian accent, you can have sure that no one here in Brazil talks like that
In defense of the portuguese bowser, he was perfect in the previous scenes, the scream at the end just lacked energy imo

The Brazilian Portuguese one sounds just like Mario! The French tried to imitate the voice too. Props to those voice actors for making the movie perfect for their people. I'll be watching the Portuguese one even if I have to watch it with subtitles, the voice is on point!
I'm impressed that our version of the movie (the French dub) is so much appreciated by everyone. I feel kinda proud x)

My mind is currently blown. A lot of people seem to think that the french version is the superior one. I'm really happy about this though since I'm french.
The best content always come from english or american speaking countries, and we're nothing but a oui oui baguette meme to them.
So the fact that a lot of people prefer french Mario over English Mario and love french Bowser as well (and I do too of course) makes me really happy ^^ Finally some recognition for my country that isn't a dumb overused meme.

@Mairusu So true. I was annoyed to be forced to watch the french version at first because french versions usually are not as good as the english version.
And then I heard the french version and I was very pleasantly surprised and extremely excited to watch it. The french version is just as good as the english one, if not better.
Also smaller detail, but I think it's crazy how french Kamek sounds really really similar english Kamek. Like it really seems like the same voice but in french. And it works.

as an italian i love how Toad is voiced by Nanni Baldini in the italian dub !
The reason Mario sounds normal is because *APPARENTLY* Nintendo and Illumination are following the Super Mario Brothers Super Show story (because Mario transports into the Mushroom Kingdom via a pipe and he does not know where he is). And Chris Pratt even gave Mario a mild Brooklyn accent (cuz in this movie, Mario is originally from Brooklyn).

@@PaoComBananaa tbf the show was the FIRST voice of Mario in the 80s before Martinet. And is still well received to this day. The thick Brooklyn accent Lou Albano did was just as memorable as Charles. Only problem is that unlike Charles who was able to do the Italian voice for 40 years they Brooklyn accent for Mario only lasted in two forms of media: The show and the (bad) first movie.
But if this film does it justice it's a win for the Brooklyn version of Mario even if Chris' voice isn't as thick as Lou Albano's.

I might be biased but...French Voice Actors are always awesome except when they try to get french youtubers or comedians ( The Sonic voice actor in the first movie was horrible. He may have improved but he was still a bit off in the second movie )
I know people have some mixed feelings about Chris Pratt voicing Mario but from what I've heard of him I think he's trying to give that New York accent because if you think about it we keep on forgetting that Mario is yes Italian but he's also from New York City or in his case New Dong City so it is kind of fitting for him to have some kind of New York/ Italian accent

Agreed, I feel like Nintendo is merging the current character models with the original show premise and VA. It's like the old Mario mashed with the new. I was fine with the voice...also think it's way to early to judge.

@@captainkatnip I think they were as when you watch the trailer when Toad appears it looks like Mario is supposed to be screaming but you can't hear anything so I do think they were early takes from Chris and they just used them to gauge the audiences reaction to it
Giving some trivia about the dubbing in my language (Italian)*:
Kamek: is ironically voiced by the guy that usually dubs Jack Black (Fabrizio Vidale).
Bowser (Alessandro Rossi): we went with... well... our chaddiest VA we got (he usually dubs the Rock, along side many other chaddiest actors and characters). Honestly I'd prefer a bit goofier voice for Bowser, but depends on which iteration of Bowser the movie wants to bring us. If it wants to bring us all-menacing-no-laughs Bowser (SMG style) then it's fine.
Mario (we have to yet understand who the VA is): it sounds like a slightier younger version of the animated series Mario, which is what I was hoping for (I honestly hoped for the original VA from the animated series, Tony Fuochi, directly, but it's fine)
Toad (Nanni Baldini): he made a LOT of voices... to name a few Donkey in the Shrek franchise and Stewie Griffin. Not bad if we go for an adult souding Toad rather than a childish one (like in the cartoon)
*Note, we usually dub the teaser trailers with provvisory VAs, these VAs might not be the final ones.
Bowser è doppiato da Massimo Lopez e non da Alessandro Rossi(a quanto ho capito). Mario invece da Marco Mete, che spero che lo doppi effettivamente lui nel film siccome c'è lo vedo bene.

As a french person im very happy that the voices are actually good because french translations of movies are usually not very good. But these french voice acting we're fantastic. I actually like chris pratt as mario. Yes it doesn't fit mario italian accent but other then that his voice is still listenable

Weirdly enough, I kinda like Chris Pratt's voice. It honestly works well with Mario's design in this movie. He wouldn't work for the games though
I honestly think that people are put off by his voice just because we’re used to having the same voice for thirty years. It sounds fine to me. Maybe the Brooklyn accent could have been heavier I guess, but it still sounds fine. And besides, I think anyone thinking that Nintendo and universal just hired Chris Pratt because he’s a celeb is dumb. Mario is a major IP. If Nintendo didn’t think that the director and the actors for this movie could pull it off, they would not have approved it. Especially after the flop that the original movie was. Besides its only two lines we’ve heard. And to anyone saying “well this language is better” firstly, it’s just your opinion, and secondly I doubt most of us here even know the exact translation of what the languages are saying. I do hope that the movie gives a little easter egg to Charles though. That would be cool.
@@Marth592 well according to nintendo he will be making cameos as other characters in the movie besides ppl need to think of it this way Charles will eventually retire so they'll need to get a new VA for Mario anyway sure not Chris Pratt since he'll be busy with his schedules but someone else who can pull it off and are they going to act like this when they do annouce a new game VA for Mario most likely but hey if they want to work Charles to his grave so be it I'd rather him retire and Mario have a new one then hearing the same shit over again I like Mario but I'm kinda sick of his whole "Happy go lucky" Italian voice he's got

The Pinguin king: Frédéric Souterelle is also the French voice actor for Kratos and Maine in Cyberpunk Edgerunner
and The French Bowser: Christophe Lemoine is the French voice for Jack Black when he's in movies and Sean Astin (Sam in LotR) too he also did Inosuke in Demon Slayer and handsome Jack in Borderland
For Kamek it's Donald Reignoux who also did Sora in Kingdom Heart 1 and 2, Lucion in Overwatch, Spiderman in Spiderman PS4
Toad is voiced by Emmanuel Garijo who did a lot of Disney Characters but also Hayden Christensen French voice, Mello in Death note, Rayman
And Luigi is voiced by Benoît Du Pac who did Eikichi Onizuka in GTO, Shadow in all the Sonic Games, Patrick Colasour in Gundam 00, Molag Bal in Skyrim
Also all of them did many other voices in movies, animation movies, series, anime, games and are big names in French Voice Acting, so yeah, we're pretty lucky this time
Do keep in mind this is only a teaser not a full trailer, it's possible some of the voice lines (mario's specifically) were recorded for this teaser meaning the actual trailer and final cut might sound completely different. keep in mind the sonic movie trailer with the attempted realistic sonic versus the sonic we got, there's still time for things to change.
I am a french Canadian, and I usually prefer to listen to VO since they are, usually, what the voices are supposed to look like.
But this time, it seems that I'll watch it in my own langage. It feel really like Mario's voice, the only problem I had with the trailer in the VO (because everything else is perfect)!
Je sais pas si t'as vu la version française au Québec, mais c'est vraiment pas comme celle en France. La plus part du temps, je trouve le doublage québecois supérieur à celui de France, mais là, on s'est carrément planté. La version française est nettement supérieure.

In Brazil, Mario is being voiced by the same voice actor that dubs all of Chris Pratt's movies. However, instead of doing the exact same thing as Chris Pratt did, he did it much closer to what Charles Martinet does in the games, Italian accent and all.
As a Latin Spanish speaker myself, I think they did pretty great with the dub, bowser still has an intense voice, Mario's voice is just a little bit off but good anyways, and I think I've actually heard the voice that plays toad before, I don't exactly know the name of the voice actor but it fits him pretty well

As a french, I'm so proud of this dub, in our country people doesn't like a lot our voice actors despite some of them being very skilful.
The french voice actor tried to sound more like mario than chris pratt unlike the other versions IMO, and that was the greatest idea ever
Well, I can understand the context, of the Mario monotonous voice. Because it’s new, weird for Mario and it has the vibes of: “okay, I want to get back home, but I’ll come with you and explore this world…"
I think it’s a perfect fit for this specific story beat. I’m even going as far to call the French one too euphoric, in that context.

Portuguese nailed Toad's voice, while Mario got accent and tone right. But as someone who is Brazilian and speaks portuguese, I think the voice could be slightly better, it still sounds bit monotone in my op.
In portuguese the eay he said to me it gives the vibes of "Ah shit here we go again" kind.
The tone and accents are right, but i think its missing something.
French kinda nailed it, but its missing the accent.
As a french person myself (that dreams to become a voice actor), I'm so happy that our voice acting is getting some appreciation!!! We got a lot of talented voice actors here and I love how much energy they deliver every time! Those Bowser and Mario voice deliveries were spot on!
French one mario is top tier. Jack Black as bowser is perfect already.
French and Brazilian Portuguese Dubs are my favorites, no doubt.
Polish Bowser is also very good, his voice seems to match the in-game roars he does!

What I find interesting is that everyone was expecting an Italian impression. However the creators of the film went with the original Mario backstory where Mario is from Brooklyn. With that in mind Chris Pratt's voice works perfectly
I honestly don't have an issue with chris pratt, sounding normal or not I can hear a bit of Brooklyn mannerisms and since it seems like it's marios first time here the voice fits brooklyn plumber mario

The thing is that the Bowser voice just needs that evil quality to be good which they bring. The Mario needs some enthusiasm which many of Mario actors fall flat with. The Toad actors all have great erratic energy though.
The “Mushroom Kingdom, here we come!” Line is probably not even in the movie, it was probably done just for that shot in the trailer, because if you look closely at Mario when he is hopping away, his face is not moving at all. He will likely be a lot more expressive and have a lot more emotion in the actual movie, Chris Pratt did do the Lego Movie after all, and I believe he won an award for that performance! Plus there is definitely a slight accent going on here, so until we hear it in full, I am keeping my opinion changeable.
Mario’s english version sounds a little bit like the old Mario Bros. Cartoons…

I'm french and i'm happy that the first time, a french dub is so good
It sounds better in other languages because you can't recognize any of the small flaws in the voice acting. It's kinda like how most people chose a TTS voice that is accented. It sounds less robotic due to the accent hiding any of the small vocal tics and missed inflections that your mind would immediately jump on. It also helps because you can just focus on the actual acting part of the performance which is pretty stellar in all the versions shown.

It'is well known, the French are the best in dubbing.
They were the first to do it (like the cinema) and they have the most dubbing actors to match the voice.
Their companies have trained those of other countries.

I think we should give Chris Pratt some slack as he sounded a bit nervous trying to do the voice, and I wouldn’t blame him being given such an iconic character to voice
I’d say that he sounded nervous because he was trying to give off the vibe that Mario was nervous and worried about where he was, but I see what you mean.

He doesn't sound more Italian, but he does sound more like Mario, which is actually more important. It's in the inflection.
