He looks so good. Try not to worry too much. Many smart pets get UTIs or irritation when mommy or daddy leaves. Maybe ask the vet if there’s something safe and calming for when you aren’t home? Because if the vet doesn’t find anything specific? This happens so much I used to specialize in this care as a house sitter.
I've come across a person that said that they sale a feline melatonin in petco 🤔 Humans use it to help with sleeping issues, what she told me was that for cats it just calms them down and helps them relax. I also read that if you suspect that your cat has a UTI you can give them a cranberry supplement or cranberry powder in their food and that will stop it from happening. Unfortunately it didn't say for how long. It just said not the juice because it has a lot of sugar and that can be bad for cats.
Would make sense, especially since she was away from him for so long. May be a physical manifestation of separation anxiety.
@@PrissyPricilla my hubby was away for work for a month, and my cat got really sick with a UTI. There were crystals in his bladder that caused a blockage, and it was life or death. He had to have an operation to clear it (with no guarantee of success).
Fortunately he came through it fine, and he's doing well.
He's a really sensitive, nervous cat, and I'm sure stress caused it 😔
Feliway has a natural pheromone based calming plug in. You change it approximately monthly.
Was going to write the same thing. Left mine for 12 hrs (longest I've been away) and he developed UTI that evening I was back. Went away in like 2 days. Such sensitive little things.. haha
Hi Sharla, I’m a vet nurse in Scotland. Often cats can get urinary tract symptoms from stress. It may be he is reacting to you having to going away for the night after your extended trip to Canada. You can help by using a feliway diffuser and supplements like cystaid to prevent it happening again. I happen

Feliway (for cats) & Adaptil (for dogs) both work really well. We've used both and they definitely work.
@@outlawtornuk666 I had a cat with a very strong reaction to Feliway - it made him tense and when it wore off at the month's end he would attack other cats, or me, until he burned it off. I stopped the Feliway and kept him calm with stronger meds and then slowly weaned him off that. He did have several other odd reactions to meds.
@@christophersmith8316 I agree, my sister is a vet tech and says keeping the cat on a urinary diet is far more effective and much safer. Also in most cases it is not related to stress but cat food that is not balanced for urinary health (disproportionate levels of certain minerals and cheap ingredients + lack of drinking water)

Our Max had bladder stones and the vet recommended a low-ash diet. We were worried because he's a picky eater too. He LOVED it and seemed to enjoy it more than his regular food. It was a "win" for all of us. A month later and all bladder problems were solved.
This was a nice reminder of my trip to Tokyo in 2019 before the world turned inside out, and sending all my good vibes for Maro! These tiny creatures take up such a huge portion of our hearts, don't they?

I always continue to be impressed by how much there is to do going out on a walk in the town. You're just tripping over opportunities. It just looks like so much fun.
One of my cats, Merlin, can only eat the food you have now, else he get bladder stones. It's really good quality, my other cat liked it, too and my new cat does not mind at all to eat this special diet food. Merlin had no issue for the past 3 years, before he had surgeries and a catheter for a while. It's really good.
Does yours drink a lot more water now?

Yep, had the same issue with my boy Darcy, he was prone to them for the first few years of his life and spent so much time at the vet, but once he was on the special cat food they didn't come back again!
Had a cat called Merlin aswell, best buddy one could find. Glad your little guy is doing better now.
@@thomasbecker9676 all my cats drank the same amount of water. I got Merlin from the shelter with the bladder issue already diagnosed. We had tried different diets before, so he always ate urinary cat food. But Royal Canin is the only one, that helped.

It's bittersweet everytime I watch your videos! I lived in Tokyo, Japan from 2013 to 2020 and I miss it so much! But I love watching your videos and have for years now, even when I lived in Japan. I hope Maro gets better soon 🙏 I have 2 cats of my own, one which I adopted from a shelter in Japan when she was a kitten. Her name is Kilala 😸 But I hope both you and Maro feel better soon and keep up the amazing work ❤

Your positivity is amazing. I have a hard time coping, and when something bad happens, it throws off my mood for the whole day. No sleep, a sick kitty, and anything else you may or may not of have mentioned, and your still being happy and doing your thing. It's very admirable 💖
My cats are on the same food, and have to be for the rest of their lives as they are prone to bladder stones and infections. The food is specifically made to be appetizing as well as nourishing, and my cats just love it. :D

My younger cat Nyx just had the same thing happen, only with her urethra being swollen instead of her bladder. $1600 US and 3 days in the animal ER later, and all the vet could tell me is that she should be fine in a couple of days and that it was probably stress from a recent move/new roommates (human and pet). We're now about 2 weeks later and she's totally fine!

Sounds like Maro had idiopathic cystitis, one of the most common causes of urinary issues in cats (check out the article on Veterinary Partner). Causes unknown (hence the term "idiopathic") but thought to be stress-related. I'm glad you were able to get him help so quickly. If a male cat has a urinary blockage, it's no joke. Good luck but sounds like he will be fine!

We just adopted a kitty last week and he had the EXACT same experience with him on Thursday morning! He got put on the exact same food too (from a vet here in Ontario!) we’ve started adding water to all his food just to ensure he’s staying hydrated! Hope Maro feels better soon!

Most people when they are super stressed or worried 😕 usually start feeling the tension in their neck and throat first. It's possible that your brain rerouted the symptoms to your eyes to protect your throat. As you just had surgery on it not to long ago and are not fully healed. Hopefully both you and you precious baby will start feeling better soon.

such a good cat mom!!!!! make sure he is getting a TON of water / moisture in his diet if he’s having bladder problems- even just soaking his kibble in warm water for 10 minutes before feeding, adding goats milk to his food, or getting little cat - ciscle treats. moisture is the KEY 🔑 to maintaining healthy bladder for cats- they are never inclined to drink water from a bowl so adding it to their food is really the only way !

Just a tip about scars: use lotion or facial oil and just massage the scar area for 5 mins in the morning and at night. It will help the scar go down. Also keep the scar out of the sun for the first few months. I’ve had many scars from surgery and this has helped me.
It is so nice that Maru lets you know when he is feeling bad. I know what it is like to worry over your fur baby. Stress can actually cause the inflammation in your eye. Thanks for sharing the drink bar and the Neko Neko post packaging. I also had a terrible scar from a neck surgery. My physical therapist worked at my scar when I had three disks replaced. It hurt A LOT. But the scar is very hard to see. She explained that skin needs to be broken up a bit so it will finally re-heal in layers. So glad Maru is okay!

With older cats, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'll bet he was very happy to feel better almost immediately too. Too bad you had to cut your Tokyo plans short - the bar was amazing and the pouch that Ushka got was SO cute! Its great to see that there are tactile paving slabs in Japan. Are they common or are they just a Tokyo thing? You have no idea how much they can help blind/visually impaired people navigate safely by themselves.

I even noticed braille on a beer can in Japan, I thought that was pretty cool.
Our cat is 16 and has had bladder problems throughout his life including stones (he had to have surgery last year) and often related to stress, apparently more common in male cats. We feed him on a diet of Royal Canin and find the ‘Calm’ biscuits have made a real difference alongside wet food (he is really picky too so we keep changing the flavours). ‘Feliway’ plug in diffusers are really good to relieve stress and we have found them to work really well alongside the food

I really like your collab with Ushka. She was so much fun and so knowledgeable. I couldn't believe her ability to recognize colors in the dolorian flames to guess her cocktail. Hope you do more collabs with her in the future. I have loved your videos for 8 years when I was an ESL tutor of Korean students, and yours and Taylor R's movies I still watch even though I've moved on to academic editing of scientific research by foreign authors for publication in science journals. I think it's also awesome that you and Taylor are still friends even though she moved to Hong Kong. I just found ESL tutors from Asia when learning about ESL and other cultures. And severeal of you are super interesting in your vlog creations, and you are one of the ones who have been fun to learn from and experience another life vicariously. Thank you so much for your hard work in sharing interesting things!

My cat has a similar problem and it is stress related (moving all the furniture around, bringing a baby home, seeing another cat outside our house, etc). It's actually happened a few times in his life (he's ten) and after the first time it happened and all his tests came back clear, our vet would give him a relaxant. He would spend the day moon eyed but peeing normally and everything would be fine after that. I hope he gets better soon!

Glad Maro seems ok. I recently went through my cat Jiji having a bladder stone and it was so scary. Hopefully he gets a good report at the follow up appointment.

I don't know what I liked best about this video. The AMAZING cocktail bar, dang I wanna go there and order every fav movie of mine. Lord of the Rings is one though so yay. OR Maru playing, loved it. And you are a good cat mom, I love how you just cancel all plans and up and leave to take care of your cat child. I would do that, love my cats. Great video! Take care of that eye though, I have dry eyes and have had eye infections and corneal damage, no fun. Could just be pink eye, which will clear up soon. Outside of vids, go easy on makeup and maybe go through your makeup and see if no eye makeup is too old, particularly mascara. Got kinda a phobia about eye problems after may visits to the opthalmologist. ;)
It seems to have just been a broken blood vessel, it’s getting a bit better every day!

Eye is slightly better today, and Maro has a checkup tomorrow to see how he’s doing🤞🏻🤞🏻
My cat have the same condition, ask if you can keep him in that special food because as soon as I change his food back the problems keep coming back. He is now perfecly happy with royal canin (the same one they give to you). Hope this help ♥️

I work at a vets office and often the ONLY food we can get picky cats to eat is royal canin. It’s a great brand and we feed all our animals that live at the clinic the urinary formula. It’s so so good honestly

Glad Maro is OK! I unexpectedly lost my 6 year old Siamese, Layla a couple of weeks ago and it has been hard :(. I can see he means so much to you! Glad you also can get out and about again.
Hope Maru starts feeling better soon. Royal Canin is some amazing food. I've had to put one of our cats on their kidney food, because she's starting to have some issues and all the other cats in the house will eat it too. They all seem to go nuts for that brand, so I think he shouldn't have any issues eating it.
What country are you from? Here in Romania, trusted vets (like not the ones that have any selling contracts) will tell us that its actually bad for pets 😅. All starch, kinda like chips.
I'm curious if the ingredients are different in other countries. It wouldn't be the first time.
@@Thehotpotato605 yea, even my vet said Royal Canin is like junk food for them. They love it but not healthy.
@@Thehotpotato605 I'm from the United States. Royal Canin here you can only get from the vets, so its pretty pricey, but its supposed to be really good for them. Specifically formulated to help with specific issues (like the start of Kidney disease.)
@@Thehotpotato605 I worked in the veterinary industry for a while and the prescription diets are very important. There is standard royal canin and prescription royal canin for specific dietary need such as urinary crystals, kidney disease, diabetes and more. While these prescription diets may not be "healthy" in some regards due to levels of protein or "fillers", but that they are healthy for that specific health problem. Which is why you must have a prescription from a vet to buy it.
For example, a cat with urinary health problems can not have as much protein, magnesium, phosphorus, or calcium as a normal cat because it can cause crystals, which can be fatal if not caught soon enough.
Definitely agree with Royal Canin and if not there is also Hills and Purina all three companies have licensed veterinarian nutritionists on staff to help formulate the food and make sure they have the proper nutrients pets need. And they’re also pretty good on recalling products if need be

One time we moved my cat had stress induced haematuria (blood in urine). I also started to give her royal canin “Calm” kibble after some stressful events last year and it really seems to help. She also loves the flavour!
