    Quite nice! I like the "Release Hand Brake" stenciling - so many times I have forgotten that darn thing...

    Thanks. Here is a story. Back in 80's in Medical school, Jeff in Philly, I met a guy who was a Dental Student at U of Penn doing an ENT summer elective at Jeff with me. He was a gun nut and I was a gun nut so we became friends. ( He had a Colt Python that was so sweet. Wish I had bought one. I could afford Ruger Security-Sixes. But I digress.)
    Joe told me a story about one of his uncles and his dad going down to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard to buy at a auction post-WW2 war surplus stuff. They ended up buying two giant crates. The whole reason they went was they figured the cheapest way to build a barn on his Uncle's farm was to get the wood from these crates. So they loaded them up on a trailer and took them back to the farm in western Pennsylvania. When they uncrated the boxes they discovered that they had bought disassembled gliders combat loaded with a 105 howitzer, a jeep, and a box of 20 M1 Garands each. This was freight on Liberty ships for the Europeans theater either in route or about to be sent when the war ended. V-E day. The howitzers they donated to the local VFW, the jeeps they kept, and the Garands were slowly given out as Christmas presents to friends and family over time.
    This was a time when guys were buying whole bombers just for the aviation gasoline.
    There is a great scene in the book "Oh Jerusalem!" where a Jewish guy realizes that the Americans are selling off the tooling and machines for munitions manufacture and buys the for pennies on the dollar, reassembles them, gets them in production, takes them all apart, ships them to Israel and hides them until literally the hour where a state is declared by David Ben-Gurion, digs them up and starts making 9mm cartridges and mortar/grenade bombs.

      What’s strange about the number?

      The hood nr. would not be 2032642?

      @@jcvieira2034 Why? Do you have a source for what it should be?

    • @jcvieira2034
      @jcvieira2034 Před 2 lety

      For all jeeps, the hood number starts with a"20". This is the Army code nr. for "1/4 tonne 4x4 truck".
      The following numbers correspond to the serie nr of delivery. But never starting with zero.
      So, If the number you haver choose for delivery is 32642, them the hood nr. should be 2032642.
      The best source for information is the site G503. Or books "All American Wonder", vol. 1&2.
      By the way, the number you choose correspond to a 1941 GP.
      For Gpw 1942, should be from 2054778 to 2069777 or from 20185869 to 20209016.
      Neverthess you have a nice jeep. Congrats.

      Agree with JC, and it’s located on the original data plate fixed to the glovebox door. I see this jeep has its data plates in the video, check it out. Nice jeep!
