The woman you helped is my grandma!! Can’t believe I’m seeing her in a CZcams video, but what you captured reflects who she is to a “T”. She is the most wonderful woman and thank you so much for helping her out! Her and all 10 of her grandkids are so thankful ❤
That's pretty amazing! Imagine seeing a family member in a youtube video!!!
Godbless her soul such a sweet lady.
You're lucky to have such grandma she's so generous!
Wow! Incredible Coincidence🌷
She is a sweetheart!!
You helping out that young woman from Kansas just made my day. You're a good fella Westen! God Speed sir!
She definitely had that grandma vibe where fight as hard as you want she would feed you or force you to take money. I think that is just a Midwest grandmother for ta.

Best part of the video was you helping the lady with the tire Weston. Good to see manners and hospitality still exist with young men.
Just happened on to your video of purchasing the old Army Jeep. As a VietNam vet, I'm pretty familiar with the old jeeps. Most all the military vehicles are equipped with a governor on the on the accelerator to limit the speed you can go. My dads old Army Jeep had one and he took it off and was able to drive up to about 75 miles per hour. Check and see if it has one.
That’s hilarious if he just never opened it up 😂
1st video in a long time that I haven’t blown up a motor….yet anyway lol
A 4bt cummins would be sweet in that thing!!!
Motors last longer than my relationships😂
Thanks for ruining the video for ones that have not watched it yet West...
Thank you for the upload wes it’s been a while
Is this the first time you haven’t blow a motor up in a video 😂
"Think it'd make it a 1200 mile road trip?" "No!" At least he's honest lol

man you dont see that level of kindness anymore. thats why i love watchin Westen and the guys. Always nice to everyone they meet! keep up the good content guys!
I own one of these. They're incredibly uncomfortable to drive, but they're still fun. It sits in my garage. I drive it on the weekends. A lot of people have classic cars or muscle cars for joy rides on the weekends. I have an old Willy's Jeep.
Fun fact: A single person can take it apart and put back together in less than an hour with pretty much just a single wrench. It was designed that way. It's literally 98% frame. It's got very few removable parts.
Paid $7500 for it 9 years ago. I do not regret it. On the road I can get it up to about 70, off road about 35. I used it for a week for my daily driver when my truck broke down. It's got a range of about 270mi on a full tank. I'm planning on buying an original soft top for mine when I can find one for a decent price.
Hey Westen, what a gentleman. My favorite part was the grandmother rescue. You the man!
NO MAN ! Leave a little old lady stranded at the road side,,,,,, well not in my world but of course i am a big old man myself.

At 32mph I think that is a distinct possibility. :D I think brand new it was only 35mph capable. Hope you have plenty of hard drives for those camera's, cause i think Lewis and Clark made better time.

@@blademasterii Brand new it was 68mph top speed with the 134 engine. 70 years later, I probably wouldn't want to go there. 😁
I just love the great attitude Westin always has about stuff. It is infectious. I should save these videos for when I am in a bad mood and it will change my tune real quick. Thanks for teaching us how to make good times out of tough ones buddy.
Earned yourself a new subscriber with this one, gents. Not only was this every bit as entertaining, but to have the integrity to help that woman and not exploit/advertise it for views tells me everything I need to know about your character. Cheers, ya'll are destined for long-lasting greatness.
The Jeep was the focal point of the video and what a great video it is, but helping a person in need on the side of the road is just awesome. Your are an honest good bunch of people.

that interaction with that nice lady just had Midwesterners written all over it. So kind of you to stop and such grandma energy with the forceful money giving 🤣

What good guys. Helping that lady made me smile.
Honestly the nicest interaction with that young lady was the best part of the video!
Thank you Westen for providing a proper example of how to treat others. You more than likely just motivated the next guy to stop and help someone else in need on the side of the road. Good job man

So true
Today was bad now its good 👍
This is going to be fun to follow. I'm building a Willys now for long distance adventures. Hopefully mine will go over 40mph !!
My Dad used to say that jeep saved Europe. His towed a 105mm cannon from Holland to the Rein River. I take his word.
Good guy Westen helping out someone’s grandma. You’re a hell of a guy for that, mad respect.
this brought such a big smile to my face. We own a 55 M38A1. And boy is she slow but the joy we bring to others when they see her out and about is so worth it. My FIL bought her in 94 for 4k and she's been in the family ever since (so you got a steal of a deal). Can't wait for our boys to get older so they can enjoy her just as much. There is nothing like driving an old jeep!
My M38A1 gets up to 70 pretty easily. Guess his needs a real tune up.
Maybe stuck in low range ?
Ours isn't stuck in low range but it probably does need a good tune up. We only take it to shows and parades so we really don't need to go fast.
It would help if his jeep had the proper f head in it rather than the l head
My only complaint about this video is that I can only like it once.
Also my dude, Westin you have just shown us just how genuine and decent of a human being you are. There was a small change in how you were interacting with that grandma and it showed us all the real you more than any other video. You have become my favourite CZcamsr now. People of the world would do well to take after you man.
Edit: buying my first ever bit of CZcamsr merch ever because of this vid. In case that metric helps somehow?
That looks like an M38a1 but has the L-Head engine from the older, smaller Willys jeeps in it. Looks like it is no longer 24 volts as well. I have rebuild 2 of those as a hobby mechanic and parts are plentifull especially if you use the early model CJ5 parts as replacements. Be weary of loose steering on those old Ross steering boxes, they can cause instability if you get too fast, the differential gear boxes were really only designed for a max of maybe 45 mph. Have fun!!
Yes at 17.15 you can see flat head engine. Perhaps a M38 ? However M38A1 should have the overhead valve 4 cylinder. Might even have the front axle drive engaged ?
You can do 50mph
Made me so happy when y’all helped grandma. Love y’all❤️🤝
I remember seeing a video in which we were told that there are 3 adjustment positions on the throttle linkage under the bonnet (hood?) That was designed for different levels of driving ability & requirements on the battlefield.
Military vehicles in some countries are geared to be driven at 45 miles per hour, which is convoy speed.
Can confirm my UAZ caps at 45 not WOT but the motor be screamin doing it.
@@USSRDragon I had a 47 Willy's with the flat head 4 cylinder, had 5.14 gears I think
@@Maples01 the UAZ has around 3.9 in the diffs if I remember correctly, the cool part is that the transfer case doesn't change the ratio out of the transmission but rather going into the transmission. So really it could be considered an eight speed, gears being first in the low 4:1 second around the mid 3:1, third is high 2:1 and fourth is 1:1, but go to low on the transfer case and then each gear goes from 1:1 to 1.89:1 so now first is nearly 8:1, and so on. It also means it has 2 reverse speeds. Also it does barely manage 89hp at 97ft/lbs of torque, though that was also measured with 70 octane. Now with the MSD electric ignition and the lowest of 85 octane here who knows what it manages now.
@@USSRDragon Lower octane, you advance the timing to make up for it, just a few years later, it was offered with the Dauntless v6. They took a beating, our troops were pretty rough on them.
That sweet lady from Kansas was the best part of this entire video!
That is my grandma at 11:30! She is one of a kind and thank you so much for helping her! We call her Gram❤️❤️
I love how the grandma was trying hard to give them that money
she is such a kansas grandma
Yeeeeppppppp, damn she was feisty eh lol
To be fair people have done that for me, also I hope i never have to change a tire with the spare on my challenger that donut spare is sketchy as fuck they are like cant drive over 50 on it and im like so your hosed if you break down in half the US lol.
You bought an M38A1 if i had to guess, the CJ5 uses the same frame but different gauges. The fun part about them is the fact that they run 10 leaf springs and it makes you bounce. you made an amazing purchase.
Edit, The reason it's so slow is because of the Motor, it's the GoDevil, it had reverse flow heads so that's most of the reason why it drives so slow, then again I would be more terrified to go Fast in a Jeep like that.
It's actually not the Go Devil, it's the successor (F134 Hurricane). The hurricane is a modified Go Devil that uses Inlet-over-exhaust instead of reverse flow heads.
@@Zark-Muckerbergno it isn’t, you can clearly see it’s a flathead when he opened the hood. Someone replaced the Hurricane 4 with an old Go-Devil. It IS a direct swap, but WHY someone would downgrade like that is beyond me.
Hello Guys!! I'm the Salina Kansas lady that had the flat tire. I have told everyone how helpful you were...and such fun too. Hope you get to Salina and visit the Garage, enjoy the car shows that changes frequently and hope you saved your $$$ for lunch. Some good spots for beer and burgers close by. Your video was fun to watch...
I will never forget when I was little, my family used to own a 50+ acre ranch that had one of these M38a1 Jeeps that came with the property, and it was the best hunting vehicle we've ever had. The property was sold by the time I was 6 because of the ever-multiplying family tree and the house on the property became too small, and we now have a roughly 42-acre ranch with a new lodge we had built as of recently to replace the 2 trailer houses that were there previously, but our current Can Am's, John Deere Gators, and Kawaski Mule's just can't compare to that old Jeep.
Yes! I love that more people are doing these kinds of videos! I love these old sketchy car road trips ❤
Here's a tip, take the thermostat off and see if it has a weep hole. If it does, enlarge it a little (1/64 to 1/32). If it doesn't have a weep hole drill one and start with a 1/64-size hole and enlarge to 1/32 if needed. I'm sure you already know this part, but when you put the thermostat back in, make sure the weep hole is at the top when mounted. So if you're drilling this for its first weep hole, make sure the mounting positions so the weep hole will be on top centered just inside the rolled edge of the thermostat. These old jeeps tend to run hot, so the weep hole should knock 10-15* F off the running temperature. Thanks for all these videos and for sharing your adventures with everyone. 🫠 I ♥JEEPs

Tire change was the sweetest thing. Props, Bro.
Me and my late step father were driving our rebuilt 1946 out on a mud run and we snapped the axle 3/4th's of the way out...
That man straight up grabbed a chain and ratcheted it together... we off roaded for the rest of the day and made it back home that day... 😂❤

I’m glad to see a real jeep when I was a kid you could have 3 shipped to your home to build for 1200 bucks. Problem that they had was cornering they will roll over at top speed. To fix need to put in wider axles. Also bigger gears so that they will do sixty. Awesome buy.
When I was in the Canadian Armed Forces, I drove a jeep classified as the 1968 Standard Military Pattern 1/4 truck, built by GM Canada. Mine was actually a 1972. It was very similar to what you were driving. Because I was 17 and 18 years old at the time, the lack of comfort never bothered me. But what I did like was: a) it always started, no matter the weather, b) it was reliable as all get out, c) it always got me to where I had to go and d) it was tougher than anything I have driven since. I'd love to own one now. The one I drove, due to a mysterious lack of a governor on the engine, would reach about 80 or 90 mph in 2 wheel high. But in 4 wheel low, it wouldn't go over 40 but would take you halfway up a mountain. Just watched the part about the generator and the belt. The jeep I drove in the army had 3 belts, so you could have 2 fail and still have a belt to keep you running. I guess that old Willy's didn't have that? You also said it was 70 years old? That thing is older than me! LOL I wish I still ran that good! LOL
Your production quality is insane Bro feels like I’m watching a discovery channel show, with a super awesome personality. Crazy seeing how much you’ve grown since the early days
Thanks Weston I had a Jeep just like that back in the 70's. My daughter was a toddler then she loved riding in it with me. We lost her 5 years ago to cancer. I smiled the whole time I was watching tkis thinking about her

@madro2315 yes that new 2.8L
The scenery at the start was just crazy beautiful. It is sad that thing goes so slow. It is likely a governor or gearing or something because 65HP should do at least 50. Sweet lady. The good thing about a Jeep is you can get to everything and they are not very complicated. If you could get parts it would be better. Even a head gasket swap would not be a big deal if you could get the gasket.
Your smile and positive energy is infectious! What a solid group of guys 🫶🌷
Watching this makes me miss my '73 CJ5. Sold it cheap 40 years ago to my brother-in-law who needed a vehicle.

It's a good day when westen uploads
Westin was raised right. A proper gentleman. Best CZcamsr ever.
Contrary to what the guy in the video said that WW2 Jeeps were built to last for ever, they were not. What they were built for was for a mechanic with minimal training to be able to keep it running. In the late 1930's and early 1940's, very few people in the US knew how to do basic auto maintenance and repair for the simple reason most people did not own a car. When the US entered WW2, the military planners had to equipment the troops with tools and equipment that could be kept in working conditions in the field by soldiers with minimum training and most of them had never driving an automobile of any kind.
That older lady was awesome! So nice. You guys rock.

Bit of clarification, this jeep was not made during WW2, it's an early cold war M38A1 jeep, while it has similar design characteristics, it has a different engine and body panels compared to the original WW2 Willys MB
Yep, hood is the give away, its a CJ5 body, over head valve engine, WW2 had a flat head flat fender.
Bruh 😂 Weston encouraging the car at 15:54 is literally me whenever I gotta go up a hill in my little 22 year old HONDA CRV
