I've just realised, Rob draws his own face on all his characters. The eyes, the nose, the philtrum space. They're all Rob.
that was the first thing i realized the moment i first saw his face. lol
Very common if you think about, Todd’s pushed nose proportions and Jim’s genetically inspired eyes and Eric’s added fin etc etc the list goes, at least some of new guys are in love with the manga look, but everything gets old including yourself.
After this I'm kinda convinced Liefeld may just be the Ultimate Warrior of comics...
I f-ing loved this. Rob's heart is as large as Cable's head was small. Excited for part 2.

I loved Bret Blevins and his take on the New Mutants. Rob is pretty cool, and i respect what he did, and sure Louise Simonson didn’t always write my favorite stories but whatever man…she wrote Cypher dying and that had some emotional weight to it. I enjoyed this interview by the way. Thanks!
I was a teen in that era (had been reading at that point for about a decade) and had long given up on the New Mutants. Liefeld brought new life into the series.
Rob Liefeld was a super intresting guest, I hope he'll be back. Since Ron Lim was mentioned on this interview, I would love to see you guys interview him as well, to me he feels a bit underrated these days, even though he is still great artist.

Always love when you guys have Liefeld on. His energy and enthusiasm are intense, and he seems like a pretty friendly dude.
He sure does! He always seen to me like a great guy, but also somebody who may get upset with you pretty easily and hold to that haha.
This was just straight fire. Rob is a treasure. Not only was Blevins not a good fit for New Mutants but neither was Loise Simonson. Her X-Factor run was just far superior imo.

I wanted a MLF mini-series or series so bad. I bought every comic they appeared in for 10 years after this issue. I did the same for the OG Marauders for 15 or so years. I’m a huge sucker for villain teams.

A lot of people make fun of those characters, but I've always thought they were so awesome. And I'm speaking as a guy that definitely finds most of the Youngblood characters really underwhelming.

Love it! Rob definitely has his limitations as an artist, and for that I think he's always had a massive chip on his shoulder. He was a supernova of his time. He's Limp Bizkit times 10. Which isn't a bad thing by any stretch. Comics are supposed to be fun and Rob is the epitome of dumb fun
I remember when those first Liefeld New Mutants books came out, being an X-Men fan and following all the X-books at the time. I didn't catch #87 when it was on the rack, because New Mutants weren't really my fav, despite having about 20 issues or so kickin' around. Once Rob took over, it was definitely a lot more interesting, and the hype was palpable. Between him, Todd, and Jim Lee, there was definitely a new edge and look that made 15-year-olds like me become even more obsessive with the books. I remember when Deadpool appeared, and I thought he was a neat character, but I didn't think he'd be anywhere near as big as he is today. Anyway, it was a good time to be reading comics. In recent years, I lost my footing with the titles that I used to care about, and I rarely go to the comics store. This channel is great and it's nice to hear Rob shooting on everything. Even though his anatomy and faces are grating, he's still a legend and he created a lot of really cool characters.
Good to hear the praise for Bob Waicek. A nice guy and good inker. You could do whole shows on artwork that "disappeared" from the DC and Marvel offices. Lots of sticky fingers...

When you're right, you're right. Rob is spot-on with his assessment of that Bird Brain. That character is the drizzling shits. LOL
Stryfe also got Marvel legends action figure most recently and in 2014, Hasbro guys even consider making his helmet replica, they even showed prototype of it. So that very first Stryfe figure really did make impression.

Rob got me into comic books. I was a fan of Toxic Avenger movies. I picked up a Marvel Toxic Avenger comic book. My mother assumed I was into all comic books so she bought a three pack of comics for me. X-Force #1 was in that pack.
Rob's X-Force turned me on to super hero comics.
When Todd inks Rob...its magic.
He hates when people say that. He always fires back saying he had to retouch those inks. That line about Todd inking him until HE DECIDED Todd couldn’t was his pushback here. He constantly shits on Jim Lee on his podcasts.
To paraphrase that, "When Image founders inks Rob... it's magic."
Hated Rob on the New Mutants but I loved him on X-Force, always wondered if Feral's personality was based on Beetlejuice.

Man I love the episodes with Liefeld! Maybe it’s because of nostalgia or even his enthusiasm or maybe I don’t give a £;@# why but I love ‘em!
Many criticize him but watching this video it was evident the market dominance that Rob Liefield has, much of what he says since his arrival to the new mutants happens now in the x-men comics, all boring, pretty art but generic and soulless, stories with lukewarm arguments leaving the epic aside. Marvel's editorial approach has fallen far short of expectations.
