    Hi Julie,
    I love your videos - they are so helpful 😊 I only discovered you today - the way you present is great. This is great fun and reassures me that it will be so temporary.
    I have 3” growth since my last colour in February. My hair is predominantly white with a dark patch at the back around the crown and lighter grey elsewhere at the back - I’m growing out blonde and toffee colour where the dark hair is.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 4 lety +3

      Diane you don't have to cut your hair and I don't recommend it especially if you don't want short hair because no matter how great it looks if you don't like short hair you won't be happy. I hate that you spent $250 and your not loving the color. The focus always needs to be a silver highlight no matter what color the client has because the silver highlights will camouflage the silver as it grows out. What differs is the line of demarcation, if you have a white runway then that will be the focus or if you have sparkle silver then that would be the focus.
      Once we somewhat match the silver that is coming in your done with the line of demarcation and having to color or feeling like you need to color again.

    This is an excellent teaching video. I’m glad I came across your video to learn about using direct dye as a way to transition and embrace my grey. Do you know if this product, “Clairol Professional
    Advanced Gray Solutions Semi Permanent Hair Color” is a direct dye type of product? I have straight black/dark brown Asian hair, and I have used dark browns to color the greys around my temples, but I really prefer to not to continue to color with permanent dyes, and would like to transition to natural grey eventually. Appreciate any recommendations you may have for dark hair like mine. Thanks so much.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před rokem +1

      @JJ Here is a link to their temporary color aka direct dye.
      www.clairol.com/en-US/products/hair-color/product/color-gloss-up?shadeSKU=4064666305851
      And you can purchase from anywhere but that’s product you want.
      This product is a great solution to color your natural color to transition and after for fun. Apply to clean, no conditioner and dry hair for a longer lasting application. Apply only to the new growth. For an easier application apply to wet hair but it will wash out faster. Only apply to the areas that can be seen, usually all of the front and top to save money and time. You can apply to dry styled hair with your finger tips to any area that needs a quick camouflage and you don’t have to wash it off, just rub some color on the area you want. Thank you for watching my super amateur videos.❤️

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před rokem +2

      @JJ also you can mix colors and brands to make the color you want. For instance if I’m a warm brown I can mix auburn and brown or if the brown you find is too light you can get black and mix a little bit to the lighter brown, etc. To see the color before you apply, put some on a paper towel, the color you see is the color that will show on your silver aka white hair only (it will do nothing to your dark hair).

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi Amy, yes unfortunately my industry doesn't label things correctly. In my "what is a toner" video I explain that direct dyes are often labeled incorrectly. If there isn't a developer than it is a direct dye but they label it as semi-permanent because it does last for several weeks depending on color. But a true semi-permanent hair color has a developer.

    I love how you do this. I am glad I found your channel. How do you do it with the spray root cover? Also in wet hair? Does your gray/white growth comes right back after you wash it? Thank you.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 2 lety

      @Carolina Thomas I would only use the spray in the areas that can be seen. The spray washes off immediately and the temporary or direct dye colors when applied to wet hair will wash off after a few washes.

    Julie..just so eternally grateful for your videos! I have medium/dark blonde dyed hair which I’ve been growing out. I’d love to replace the sticky temp sprays for a nice spoolie or direct dye cream, but I’m concerned my natural silver hair could be permanently stained by warm tones, as stated by another channel. True?, and do you recommend one for a blonde match? Thank you!

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před rokem +1

      @Mar Kee Thank you for your kind words and watching my super amateur videos! I can 100% guarantee they will wash off. If you email me I can send you pics of my hair red, green, purple, pink and most recently orange. Yes they do stain the hair that is how they work BUT because it’s only on the outside of the hair shaft every time you wash your hair you wash a little off. Then eventually it’s completely gone. What people don’t understand or consider is hair type porous(curly) vs non porous (straight), how often you wash, what you wash with, etc will determine how long it will stay on the hair. In addition choice of color purple vs lavender, lavender is light it will wash off quickly but purple will take longer. Also how you apply wet vs dry will effect how long it stays on the hair.
      Intense colors on my hair last about 4-6 weeks but every time the color is washed, it’s getting lighter. In those 4-6 weeks, the color is changing to a lighter color with every wash.
      If I’m using natural looking color for my transition then I would do everything I could to make it last but if I’m using an intense fun color then I will do everything to make it wash off quicker.
      If you send me pics of your hair I can send you links for color. Thanks again for watching juliethehairapist@gmail.com

    How does this technique work with white fine hair? I'm growing mine out. It's about 2 inches out, with old permanent hair color or rest. I'm hiding the growth with Fanciful Roux, but LOVE your hair!

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 3 lety +1

      Fanciful is a great tool and it works exactly like the fun colors. The biggest problem is our white hair is healthy and not porous so you do need a bit more intense color for it to show. When you use these colors on your white hair apply to dry clean hair for best results in the color showing.

    • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 2 lety +1

      @Marion The only way to see the silver streaks in your artificial hair Is with a highlight 1st. Once you have removed the color then you would be able to use a silver direct die or temporary color to turn those highlights silver. But the other thing that you can do if you don't have the ability to do the highlight is use the temporary color on your new growth only. In the beginning it will just look like your normal touch up but slightly lighter at the scalp. But eventually the temporary color will turn your white hair into a highlight as it grows out. Then when it's all grown out you just stop using the temporary color and you will have all of your beautiful silver hair. • @juliethehairapist
      @juliethehairapist  Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately the industry doesn't label them correctly. They are labelled semi-permanent, temporary and direct dye. These type of colors have no developer, no mixing. What you see is what you get. You can make your own color by mixing 2 colors together. Pravana, Pulp Riot, Matrix and all the lines make these. If you send me pics of your hair I can give you better advice juliethehairapist@gmail.com.

      Hi Maira, I use Pravana and Pulp Riot but all the color lines make direct dyes. They are the wild colors like blue, purple, etc. But they make silver and you can use the law of color red, yellow and blue make brown to create your own natural color if you want. They are a what you see is what you get so what ever you see on a white towel that is the color.

      You can do either, if I'm using an intense color like the green or purple I do wash but it's to get the color off of my scalp not to wash the color off. If I'm using a light color I don't wash I just rinse with water and condition because the color doesn't stain my scalp.
