Going Gray the easy way!

  • Going Gray the Easy Way! I got tired of chasing that white strip on the top of my head and decided it was time to embrace my gray. But I didn't like the options my hairdressers were giving me, so I took matters into my own hands. This is how to go gray the easy way. I had my hairdresser bleach it to the lightest blonde he could and I took it from there.....

I went gray during Covid...best thing I ever did! I cut my own hair and I find young men are very attentive (probably think granny needs assistance). Then the trend began and young women paid big bucks bucks for the look. It's growing with grace and not forcing anything in life.
Monique you're so good for the females of the world. Good advice and heaps of confidence. 💃🏼👏🏼❤

When I started going gray at 29 everyone said it looked good, it was at my temples so I looked okay (I guess) one weekend after feeling old and tired I dyed it. When I went into work on Monday everyone said Liz we are so glad u got rid of that gray! You look much better. For years I dyed it 25 yrs to be exact. Now at 68 I Love my Silver hair, I worked with the transition n before I knew it Voalla! Now it really doesn't matter if people like it or not I Love It, I Am Beautiful. You are Beautiful Thank U.

I've been wishing my hair would hurry up & go 'full on' grey...silver grey! Instead it's mousey brown w/ grey hairs mixed in. Yuk. I did go quite short & bleached blond for the first time in my life, last year. Lovin' it! But I really want that silvery platinum or grey like your color. What is up w/stylist not giving you what you ask for?! At any rate, you are stunning. And your hair is gorgeous!..cut & color. 💖

Beautiful! I adhere to the old rule that one should not have long hair after age 40.And yet, I see on TV that most older' Americans DO have long hair. Where I live in Quebec, it is rare to see a woman over 50 with long hair. I agree that it is aging. And dark hair as one ages, maybe after age 60, is also aging. So, here you are with very short hair that is a natural colour and will over the next 4 or 5 months be white/silver all over. Lovely!.

Excellent. I ended up using the same manic panic products. I've been growing my silver out for 3 years now. For the first few months, I used those waxy root color sticks they sell at Sallys. Then I got down to business. I bought clip-in, real hair extensions and bleached them right out and toned them to silver. Whenever I went out, I popped them in and it visually carried the streaks all the way down the length of my hair. In doing so, I minimized the demarcation line. After about a year, I didn't need to do that anymore. 3 years later, I STILL have some of my dyed ends but by now they look like a deliberate ombre. I actually get compliments on it.. more than expected. Love your videos :-)

My hair is naturally a silky pure white now. Last spring I got the notion I did not want white hair on my renewed driver's license, so I had it colored to a very light brown. (Vanity meets mortality.) Now I see my folly. After box coloring for about 7 months, I want to go back to the white. I am so glad you shared having your hair bleached out. I had been looking online and all I saw was cut, or endure the grow out. The bleaching definitely will be the way for me to go. Thank you for sharing this information.

Oh my gosh, I'm watching the exact dilemma I myself faced the last several years. I too started going gray at about 15, and have been coloring my hair ever since, about 23 years. Almost always a deep auburn. Last summer, with quarter inch WHITE roots and deep, dyed, auburn hair down to the middle of my back I finally just made the gut wrenching decision to shave my head.... I'm not gonna say i did it and never looked back but I AM FINALLY happy with the growth, and NEVER having to color my hair again!!!!!

Think my first gray was in my 20s but I never bothered dying. Too much trouble and expense. Then at maybe 40, I started dying every once in a while to a light brown/dark blonde. More trouble than nothing but not too bad. Then I turned 50 (I'm 53 now). I, from time to time, and depending on the lighting, had people tell me my hair looked red. So I started to embrace that and went red brown. Changed my life, really. Like you said, it's a constant chasing that white strip, and red is very high maintenance but I love it. I didn't have 30 years of coloring my hair like you, so I don't know how long I will keep this up; but I am pretty sure I am VERY gray (unlike my still merely salt and pepper or not-much-gray-at-all older sisters!). I wonder how long it will be before I am ready to embrace the gray.

I've been FREAKING OUT over my grey hair. Like breakdown cry and panic! I think for a Looooong time now and tbh still now , just cant except the white hair coming through. I use to have darkest brown almost black and now ......😟 well sad face. Its definitely all over a ash chocolate brown very faded. And alot alot lot of whites. Since before I turned 18 I think but really actually saw them showing more on top at age 19, I'm almost 29 now..I hate it. Still. But I'll be honest, watching this actually makes me feel a little bit better about it all.. so I'm happy I found this vid. And your stunning! Omg! So happy to see a woman my age making a video about the grey. I'm in the process of bleaching mine to white so I can do a silver grey, since I'm now at about 50/50, but dyeing black is too much of a pain. I've been dyeing the streak purple for years, but the streak is no longer definite, like you said, it's not pretty trying to grow this thing out. The silver hair looks beautiful on you!

Thank you for posting this. I started getting greys at 16, over 30 years ago, and decided to stop coloring my hair altogether about 4 years ago. I'm getting some nice silver streaks in, but NOT FAST ENOUGH. Instead, it's been going this all-over gunmetal blue grey with a few lighter streaks, and I really want to go totally silver as you have. My concern is that my hair is hip-length now and very thick, so to get it fully lightened first at a salon would NOT be cheap, so I've really debated whether it's worth the expense. Also, I'm paranoid about the damage from the lightening process, especially as hair over 40 is more prone to breakage. Still, this really inspires me to at least ask my stylist about the pros & cons whether it I should try to speed it up now.

Monique your video gave me the courage to stop the coloring of my grey hair, bleach it out and go EL NATURELL. Although bleaching is very hard on ones hair, and I happen to be one of the lucky one to have thick strong hair in my mid sixties. I am rocky the white cotton top at the moment- Had to also have a significant amount of hair cut off that did not survive the process very well. But the silver lining -- no pun intended -- is I am in month 2 since taking the big step and I have not had to do any roots. Now I am shopping for a topper so when I want to glam up my look -- and have longer hair it is literally a few step away .

Unfortunately after about 8 months I chickened out and colored it again. Now it seems like it's growing back faster and faster than ever. I'm thinking about trying again. Maybe it'll be less painful this time because my hair is quite short now. The new growth is a pretty silverish white, very bright and shiny, so I think it will look good.

I have been a platinum blonde for years, but have striven for the silver grey. My father is a natural silver fox, so I am having to, "fake it, till I make it". It is genetic in our family. I so wanted that "pop" of color. My Stylist has even tried, the color Titanium, to no avail. So with that, I came across Monique Parent' video (looking for videos on maturing gracefully) and then watched other videos, of all hair colors - trying this product. I pay a lot of money for my stylist to take care of my color, so I was hesitant, but felt confident due to researching and after finding Monique Parent' CZcams site. Last night, O thought to myself, you are actually thinking of placing a product that costs only $9.99 on your head. Well, I prepared it just as Monique suggested, 50% of the Blue Steel color, and 50% of the pastel-yzer. I am unbelievably astonished. The color, silver grey that I have been striving for is finally, finally on my head! My default photo is my before hair. It had areas of gold tone, but the Blue Steel took it away and placed an evenly beautiful silver color. I will continue to watch her videos, to stay classy as I age.

I am 72 now and have coloured my hair since I was 18 because of a broken heart (silly young me). I found it so enlightening I continued from my usual mouse dark blond to a lovely pale red blond. It was so admired as I had wild curly hair, the bane of my life! It was not until I was 60 as it made me look artificial. So changed to a light blond. Now I am sick of the monthly colour job and want to go grey! Will show this to my lovely hairdresser! Thank you, you look beautiful!

  • @accidentalanarchist3304

You're colour and cut is exactly what I'm looking for..Stunning.
I had the cut, though my fringe was way longer, but had been dying over my gray hair since my 20's, and my natural colour was black.
So after 15 years of hair down to the base of my spine, I had it chopped to your length..Brave huh :)
Still, my hair was crappy and brittle, and got fed up doing my roots every 3 weeks, so not healthy either. Found out last week that my hair was due to hypothyroidism, as well as the massive weight gain..
My hairdresser told me it was too far gone with the condition I have, and so badly dyed, they'd have had to beach it out in three steps, which would've left it in worse condition than before, and cost me hundreds of dollars.
So I just shaved off all my hair with my sons help, and fully intend to go with this look when it's grows in..
    Great video.

Oh my gawd... I am so on the same page. I have been grey or partially grey since around 13 years old and dying it until my 40's and then was done with the upkeep and frankly I was liking the idea of grey. I had to do it the hard way though and go with a VERY drastic short cut. Anyhow thank you for introducing me to the Manic Panic Products.. I am stocking up!

You have great hair to begin with. My hair has gotten thin with thyroid issue and age. But You make gray gorgeous! It is almost more platinum to me. Your face is perfect for the cut too. Very nice.

Wow, i also started going grey or white early. Mine started at 14! I'm now 49 and have been battling the "skunk stripe" for years. I color my own hair b/c I was tired of getting charged extra for "corrective color". It's not corrective, it's my natural hair! I love the grey look on you. I doubt i could pull off the grey, I'd look washed out. You rock it.

I'm not even 40 and I have a lot of white hair. The thing is, I'm fed up with dying my hair and now I have a big growth that requires a new hair cut to blend the old with the new... It's power defining moment when letting your own hair colour show up again and embrace age and life :-)

Incredible - I have the same mirror-framed piece in our master bath! :)
I like your silver hair videos (I'm trying to rush my grey along). Moreover, I love your forthright style, especially, as I get back into the acting/voiceover saddle again, after a child rearing hiatus. Thanks so much!

I didn't want to cut my hair off or go through all these processes. I just grew min out. Once it got past about my ears, everyone that didn't know thought I had done the ombré effect. When I had about 3" left on the ends I'd had enough and cut it off. Couldn't be happier with it now.
