Man, I get it, you're high on growing the channel. A month or two ago y ou were pushing for 200k subs, now a million seems shortly inevitable. Still man, you have to cool it on the OVERWHELMINGLY suck up titles and descriptions of the play of popular people. I get it, Magnus gets views, XQC gets views. Promoting them is good business sense. Still, there's a point of diminishing returns. I'm starting to *not* watch the actual video because the title is too cringe. He will likely lose to Sardoche next match
@@SuperTrailerz ok???
XQC’s Elo increased by a couple hundred points
He’s also had some phenomenal chess players coaching him
Its his puzzles and tactics spotting that put him over the edge in his 6 wins. He spotted them before his opponent. Sure he has no opening spending minutes on first 3 moves and his endgame isnt sharp, and takes 0 lessons, his opponents all have opening prep by coaches but 1550 puzzle rating is worth alot.
My man found D5, only move that doesnt lose when he saw the danish for the first time like i wouldnt have ever thought of that. He just has a feel for chess and thats great.
I love the recurring "throw something out the window competition" joke
Defenestration, like chess, can be serious business at times.
The most impressive thing about how xQc played was listening to his thought process and how he identified 3-4 step tactical patterns as well as staying cool under pressure. Like Hikaru said, if he gets some actual opening theory behind him, i think he can get to 1300-1500

I wasn't even really an xQc fan before this chess stuff, watched maybe a couple of his daily dose reactions on youtube. But I can't help but root for this guy after seeing not only just how much he's improved despite his rough beginning, but how he says screw preparation and memorizing openings. This is living chess, relying on your tactics and intuition over memorization.
at pogchamps level, tactics and board awareness are way more crucial than opening theory anyways
@@MrRainierSalu Absolutely. Teach them how to choose moves, which the coaches (other than Naroditsky), don't do. Opening prep for a person that doesn't even see checks or captures. It's hilariously backward. xQc has realized how to get better at chess at his level. Bravo.

i honestly wouldnt watch youtube videos like this but your commentary and how you explain moves makes it worth it!
Loving the recaps, levy. Keep it up :)
Gotham's thumbnail artist needs a raise
While we’re talking about respect, I have mad respect for Levy for having the right perspective about stuff like this and communicating it so clearly in all your videos. As a society, we do not do a good job at letting people improve and have fun, especially for adults.
We make fun of people for making bad music or bad art or for getting checkmated on move 6. I think there is this weird idea that it’s okay to have hobbies if you’re already highly skilled at them, but if not it’s just cringey to even try. Of course that misses two key factors 1) you get better by putting in the work, no one is born with refined skills and 2) you can do things for fun even if you’re not highly skilled. I really appreciate how you understand both these factors and address them in videos like this.
It’s also worth noting that xQc didn’t lose because he was just bad at Chess. Charlie was taught that specific line his coach expected a Scotch and thought chances were high xQc would fall for that trap.
A an unskilled player, I have fun getting mated in 6 moves
Its really instructive cuz in these pogchamp recaps you tell me where they made a mistake en why it is a mistake instead of 2 Super GMs where you’re telling me how amazing this move is cuz after the exchange happend they’re in a slightly better endgame cuz the pawns are not dubbled
Xqc explaining why he didnt accept the gambit and other tactics was so great.
I felt like Negreanu was so pissed off in the post game interview. The way he was talking, how red he was, and him blinking just gave it all away. 😂
Interesting. Wonder if he being honest or simply musing on the fly that losing would be a better thinking despite the yesterday's results, Sardoche a worse matchup?

Man...I remember when I was like 9-10 years old, I had Chessmaster on the PS2, and I would always constantly watch and re-watch Waitzkin's commentaries on his games. And never once have I ever forgotten about the story of "The second mistake". Thanks for the throwback :^)
I had that for PC. That rings a bell but for the most part, I heard Waitzkin telling me 😁"No, that's not the right move... Try again." I also had that old tiny "Bobby Fischer teaches chess" book.
@@snickle1980 The game was against now-IM rated about 2338 William Paschall. The story was about a woman at 33rd street & Broadway in Manhattan, who nearly got hit by a bike while crossing the road. Made the first mistake by turning to yell at the bike rider while continuing to cross, and was subsequently hit by a taxi because of it.
The second mistake that nearly killed her. The second mistake that lost him that game, after his first mistake made him a little weaker.
xqc's chess journey is truly inspiring
Seriously impressed with the first game, even I don't know how to play against the Danish gambit
Yeah but you are a chess player that has studied the lines before. XQC had never even heard the term Danish Gambit before in his life. It's mpressive that he refuted it with zero study.

4:27 i like how he made a poker reference when reviewing negreanu's game xd
"6-0, undefeated! Yes baby!"
Bobby "xqc" fischer
To me what is most impressive is that he didn't take on any coaching and didn't practice openings. He's just winging it and succeeding off of creativity. The dude understands the puzzle aspect of chess probably better than anyone else in the tournament. If he would literally just google the what first 8 moves he should play, he'd probably be one of the top 3 players. One common complaint about chess is that it becomes stale in that it just becomes a theory memorization game for the first 15 moves or so. I'd argue the way he is playing is the more fun way to play and it directly goes against that criticism.
I mean hes always been the kinda guy to grind a game nonstop and get good with instincts, same goes for chess and like you said it shows that just studying chess enough to learn to play, there's a whole aspect to it that is just making every possible mistake and learning from them and then being able to play on instinct.
Actually that is the way to learn chess at the beginning.if you don't know how to use advantage it's useless to learn how to get advantage.
The god thumbnails on these videos
Seriously that thing is a masterpiece
So much to learn from these games. Watching the whole game I was really impressed that xQc just found d5 himself. I could definitely ease up on the opening books and try to work things out myself. In the interview after the game Anna asked Daniel about the 2nd mistake not blocking the check and he could hardly register it, he was still fixed on the first "mistake", which was only a Queen for Rook & Bishop and he was still up material. Even so, I like to rag on Daniel because I used to play poker and I know who he is from there, but total fair play to him for stepping out of his comfort zone.
Levy is so quick with the pog champ content
The stoicism demonstrated by rain and xQc can only be matched by Marcus Aurelius.
You barely understand Marcus Aurelius then.
@@saptashwapal4400 "...xQc solved chess," so does Levy barely understand chess then?
@@yzfool6639 If we assume levy is not being a hypocrite, then yes.
@@saptashwapal4400 can you expand on that?
@@JCBCoin What is there to expand ? Chess as a game is not solved. So saying someone "solved" the game is either an implication of lack of knowledge about the game or a sign of hypocrisy (because it goes directly goes against all the educational video Levy makes). So this is the logical syllogisms. Keeping one out of the consideration makes the other syllogism absolute certainty.
P.S. I wouldn't have made my first comment but I have so much respect for Marcus Aurelius and you comparing XQC or Rainn to him seemed blasphemy to me. And that's why I bothered to respond to your original comment.
