Whenever I play games with my 7yo son, I ask him if he wants me to take it easy on him (i.e., let him win), or play him for real. I'm hoping someday he will no longer be satisfied beating me when I'm throwing the game in his favor and will actually want to beat me when I'm trying to beat him.
My dad never lets me win, he say that its because when i do finally win ill know its real

This series was so well done, Mike. Kudos for pushing yourself and absolutely crushing it. Can't wait for the next one! - Brad
Yea I agree
series?!
So cool to see a maker that I'm a fan of here!
Where's the series
Is this a real game
Itâs funny to think that when you beat a computer at chess at whatever difficulty, itâs because it let you.
@ĐĐĐĐ«ĐšĐĐĐ yeah. Even me, a 1200 (best rating 1301) can beat a bot rated 1800 occasionally. They do weird things and make dumb moves which a human rated 1000 would never do. Absolute waste of time playing against bots. Also I donât know the level of Mikes dad but it canât be higher than 800, to lose to Mike after only a week of playing the game and to blunder a queen so easily. Bit of a silly challenge. Would be good to actually see Mike try to learn chess properly, over a long period of time.
Chess would be a lot more fun without all the pretentious self-promoters who take the game way too seriously.
@@mozza1985 Lol chill
The whole point of the video was that Mike used to lose to his dad and practiced be able to beat him.
Bots being dumb or not, they helped Mike to learn nonetheless. You could say that the numbers might be wrong in terms of skill, but it still helped, so i don't get the problem
@@doodoo2065 itâs not a problem Iâm just saying itâs not exactly a feat to learn chess for a week to the extent where you can beat players who blunder under no pressure. Playing bots is not good for anyoneâs progress, not even beginners. Learning from games you play with people, at and above your level is how you should learn. If you played chess youâd understand why bots are unhelpful. Itâs more than just 1 week of study to get good at chess.

Anyone else notice at around 1:59 mike selects to do the queens pawn opening then he ends up playing the kings pawn opening?
Ikr he blundered
Not only that. White's king and queen are inverted. The king is on d1 and the queen is on e1. Black is setup correctly.
@@jakubgrzywacz1323 ik right
Cause king pawn opening have many advantages. You can use is it against many openings. It opens the diagonal for queen and Bishop.
Yeah the video has some continuation problems like in 12:10 after he "rock"es and then the tower is in normal place again
Everyone after finishing queen's gambit "i'mma try chess now"

Dad boss's occupation is retired..
That implies that retiring is an occupation, that's right. I *DO* have a job.

You canât retire if you never had a job to begin with
3:31 it is actually not checkmate just yet as white can still play Bf1 (move to the bishop to the square f1) to stop checkmate; finally my 9 years of chess has led up to this
Yeah but then he just takes the bishop
Black pins the white king to the rook
Glad im not the only one who caught that
Yeah but than just Qxf1#
Neither is game 2 or 3.... he still could of moved
This editing is on a whole other level compared to anything I have ever seen before. The idea was perfectly executed, creative and enjoyable to watch.

Nah it's always been mainstream and rather xqc Ludwig and almost all the higer rated players in pogchamps played chess casually years before all this chess boom. And I means its that sport where all of us know the rules.
Hikaru Nakamura played a part on taking it to mainstream as well.

Dang this is such insane commitment to an editing style, honestly was captivating to watch just for the cool editing decisions even as watching low-level chess players practice with a computer/against their family isn't visually or narratively that interesting. Crazy good work!
12:13 Mike castles on the queenside
12:19 His king is back in its starting location
12:25 His king's re-castled again, but on the kingside
lmao. suddenly he castles himself on the board, gets captured and fucking dies
Yeah this video is looking so fake unfortunately
probably some glitch, must be fixed in the next patch
It's probably just to make a cool looking montage, I don't think Mike would fake a video since he wouldn't get anything from doing that, and besides, asking his dad to play badly would also work and not be noticeble.
i dont think she showed the same game each time in out of focus shots
"I beat a 1500 elo bot" proceeds to show that he beat the bot with one crown meaning that takebacks and top engine moves were used.
What does this mean?

@@mathozi5384 just that the computer told him whether his moves were good or not, and that he could undo his moves.

@Noob Destroyer um? did you not realise that the graphics are LITERALLY exactly like real life, and the character is him?

yeah its mate in 1
If the player accepts that it's checkmate and shakes your hand, the game is over regardless of the position

Just have to point out that in the overhead shot at 2:10, your initial board setup is wrong. The king and queen are swapped on the white side. It always starts with "queen on her color" so that the queens are on the same side, as are the kings.

So creative, Mike your a genius!
This is so professional and immersive. Next level stuff!
imagine an actual vRPG with chess in it where as your character got better at chess it gave you better and better suggested moves, meaning that even if *YOU* (the player) know nothing about chess, your character can, but you are still ultimately in control, and the worse your character is the worse the moves it suggests are (with the minimum being either no suggestions or legit random possible moves as suiggestions) and depending on the board state, characters chess skill lvl, etc you can have between 3-5 possible suggestions being narrowed down based on context (check, power of a single potential move suggestion, other factors like character exp, skills, levels, etc in other areas that may relate in chess somehow, like luck, intelligence, charisma, etc )
