- Les Bicyclettes de Belsize is a 1968 Brittish musical short film that tells the story of a young man cycling around the Hampstead area of London on a Raleigh RSW16 bicycle, and that after crashing into a billboard falls in love with the model that is featured on it. This song, which was written by Les Reed and Barry Mason, and that I recorded for my LP "ENGELBERT," released in 1969 was the theme song for the film. Despite its title, the Belsize Park does not appear in the film.

The film is riddled with bloopers. At the time I was at school in Hampstead and had an RSW16 which was riddled with problems and soon swapped for a Moulton. At about 3.45 in the film at the incident with the car the bike mysteriously turns into a standard diamond frame bike as it goes round the car then back again!. I am now a member of the Moulton Bicycle Club with two bikes, a first production model in original condition and a Major Deluxe identical to te one I had then.

Engelbert was born 1936. Let's assume that this was recorded in 1968, the year the song was written and used in the film. If that's the case, he'd be 32 :-)
