      They delivered in the end and GT and Dirt bolt together beautifully. Not sure if that would have been the case with a different publisher. Yes it took longer but compared to several others (who I'm not going to name and shame) they did alright in the end.

    Excellent review, Rich! Rallyman GT is my most played game on BGA (id is Greyowl, if you want to race there) so I have been waiting a long time for Dirt. Great to hear that you enjoyed it a lot (I tried it once on Tabletopia prior to KS). I like Heat too and I think it will be better at higher player counts as turns are faster. Dirt does seem to have so many cool options to make it better feel like you are racing. I like both racing systems too! Thanks!

    In a two-player game, I'll set up two tracks. One player on each. Both playing at the same time negates a lot of the down time. There are times when we need the same die but it goes pretty quick. At the end, we switch tracks and compare time totals for both stages.

    Hi, How would you compare this to heat: pedal to the metal?

  • @guillermoyaroslavlverduzco1551

    I just would like the designer to launch a rally-track booklet with a time table to beat for each escenario or something. You know, like Licenses in Gran Turismo or something similar.
    I play solo a lot, so what I did with this one is adding the card numbered (and only one copy of it) on the outer part of the curve (where you drift), after doing the same with every corner to get a total amount of cards, I take a time token per number card drawn, in example: The drift part of the curve has 3 times the number 2 on it, which was the card I took for that curve, then I take -3 time token, 'cause that number is shown 3 times during the curve.
    That is how I get a record to beat, and tends to be good. Not always win, not always lose and I've improved on the tracks.

    Thanks for the review, Rich! I love Rallyman GT very much, but more often than not it has a runaway leader problem (also 6p game is a bit long, as you mentioned), so my question is: does DIRT solves that with time cards? And on the other side: does it take away the feel of stepping on others toes, overtaking them and blocking their way (the mean part which i enjoy)?

    • @RichplaysBoardgames
      @RichplaysBoardgames Před rokem +1

      Glad to hear you enjoyed the review! The time cards do help with some of the runaway leader problems, and the stagger starts, helps with the issue of cars being blocked. With that being said, there are plenty of ways of blocking other cars due to drifting and sliding (which hopefully not take away from the parts many enjoy), and with the new shortcut mechanic now implanted in the game, it adds a dynamic way of completing block players from using the regular track and forcing them to take the shortcut which is more dangerous. I hope this helps 😊

    • @picton101
      @picton101 Před rokem

      Try playing GT with the Time trail rules (ie ending gears = x amount of time). Keeps times secret until end of the race and remember focus tokens equal deducted seconds. Lowest time wins. We played that version for years! If you enjoy that version get Dirt 🤔

  • @Warriorking.1963
    @Warriorking.1963 Před rokem +2

    First things first, I really enjoyed the video, so no criticism there.
    As for the game, I love rallying in the real world, indeed I was going to rallies before I could walk, pushed in a pram by my parents. The game has some really cool looking mechanics, the SISU token (SISU is a Finnish word which means Guts) is clever, you get to roll dice (I LOVE chucking dice!!!), and the cards with the times on them is a great idea. The fact the board is constructed from tiles is also excellent, it means players have a huge number of options for different layouts when setting up. And yet...
    For some reason, I'm not hopping off the seat with excitement about this game. I don't know why, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes for me, but I just don't find myself racing to see where I can purchase it. Maybe I need to see a playthrough, maybe that would get my blood flowing, but right now, I'm afraid this game has definitely got a very big question mark over it.
    As I said, no criticism at all being levelled at the video, you did a great job showing the game off, and I really enjoyed watching it.

      After playing rallyman for over 10 years, from the original (simpler game) then the aggressive GT version and now for the last month the new Dirt I will always recommend them. I love the WRC (I'm watching Sweden right now). For me the game balances my two key areas for race games. Firstly, that the optimal/clean route is quick to see for everyone but secondly players have the option to push a little harder to gain that extra ground but the risk is immediately evident. Brake harder, hit the crest faster, cut the corner, choose the softer tyres, pray for snow, approach the bend the fastest - all terrible options, all potential race winners if managed properly and if not there's always the next stage to claw back some time.

      On BBG, the Rallyman Community has a made driverless car system which introduced cars to race against, and overall, it well designed and works really well. I hope this helps 😊

    • @kennethfharkin
      @kennethfharkin Před rokem +1

      @@honzokid That is a fair position. GT is a great game. I got it for Christmas and it is a huge hit. I love that Dirt uses a time system like the solo timing for GT. HGG imploding doesn’t change that the game is great and buying it or expansions you find now isn’t lining HGG’s pockets. The games are out in distribution or will be sold off by those who hold them in lieu of payment from HGG.
      HGG didn’t intentionally defraud people. They did show horrible business sense and project planning and it has cost them a company which had several successful titles. If you want a fraud look at Kevin Siembieda / Palladium and the Robotech KS. That is a guy who used backed money to massively overproduce base box sets to sell at retail rather than use the funds for the campaign as promised. His plan failed though and he sold off the stock at a discount which was still 100% profit as backers paid for it while walking away from hundreds of thousands of dollars in products owed, and refunds promised. KS even let them run another KS last month despite many screwed backers bringing up the issue.
      Reputation precedes you and those at HGG will have this following them for a long time. Caveat Emptor. I know I will not back a game in the future where these people are the ones driving the program. Perhaps if they are locked off in the design or artwork side I’ll back but they cannot be connected to the production or commercial decision making. KS is always a risk and given the success of GT I’d have bet on this one if not already involved in others at the time. I got lucky and feel bad for those who lost out here. That doesn’t mean though that I will not enjoy a great game. There is no reason to cut off your nose to spite your face.
