Let's see what Rockstar had done to create this underwhelming remastered: -They removed old games from most stores, so they leave players with no choice but buying this remastered version. -They took down all mods from old games for no appropiate reasons. -They decided to outsource this remaster to inexperience studio who also responsible for shitty mobile port and the previous crap remaster as well. -They HAVE all the money to create a remake, but they decided to do the easy way for easy money. -No matter how you look at it, even tho there are 3 games, $60 for this crap is way too much, especially for the lazy remaster and 20 years old games (Just leave people option to buy the old games dammit!). -To add more wounds, remastered version didn't even fix bugs from old games, in fact they added some more, although it's not a bug but the new draw distance makes the game looks ugly.

Not defending Rockstar, but they didn't do the remaster, it was Grove Street Games but doesn't change the fact that both Rockstar and GSG are both in fault, also GSG thinking that AI for upscaling the textures is a good idea.

There are some incredible remakes out there. Spyro being one of them. I would also like to add Wonder Boy, The Dragons Trap. It looks super sharp and the re-made music and sounds is just amazing. It uses the exact same physics as it used back on the Sega Master System. You can even switch the graphics and sound between old and new. It is a masterpiece. A true GTA 3 remake alone would be worth $70 to me, if it was on par with Spyro or Dragons Trap.

We're at the point where companies as big as EA, Bethesda and Rockstar KNOW they are too big to fail. They can re-release the same game over, and over, and over. People will buy it. They can offload the remaster of threee of their most popular and beloved games to a company who half assed the 360 version of San Andreas and has proven they are incompetent in game design. Doesn't matter. They'll just remove the original games from the store, threaten to sue any modders who made graphical mods and force those down. Giving you no choice BUT to buy the remaster. This is absolute proof that it is morally acceptable to pirate all of Rockstar's games. As Gabe Newell famously said, piracy is a service problem. When the experience from pirates is better in every way than the "legitimate" offerings, that is damning of the company, and they need to do better if they want your money.

Not buying this before the review embargo feels like the best decision I ever made as a consumer. Now I ‘m just happy to have been able to experience these games in their prime, before Rockstar turned into the soullessly uninspired, greedy racket it is today. Rest in peace, GTA trilogy. Good times.
Major lighting issues. Some of the old ambient light doesn't translate to the new lighting system, so entire areas are just super under-lit. It needed finessing, not someone saying "oh that's out of scope".

Anyone that looked into who made these Remasters had a feeling this was coming. Grove Street Games (formerly known as "War Drum Studios") made the previous mobile ports and the HD ports (for modern consoles) of the OG GTA games. Anyone who looked critically at those ports (Vladim among others) saw a broken mess with zero love for what these games were.
when they pulled the original games I knew this was going to be a shit fiesta, there is no reason they would pull the original games if the remaster was good, they knew this shit wouldn't hold up to mods of the original games. The draw distance doesn't even look right compared to the SALODLIGHTS mod or w.e
The weird thing to me is that Rockstar either makes 10/10 masterpieces or 1/10 cash grabs. There are not other scenarios. Ubisoft for example makes consistent 6/10 games. But you know as a consumer that the games might not be the best, but they are still really enjoyable. Rockstar on the other hand is a 50/50 dice roll where you can expect either a masterpiece or a lazy cashgrab.
It’s honestly incredible how with recent events at R* from the departure of beloved producers to the release of this “remaster” managed to absolutely DECIMATE the company from beloved to no better than EA and Activision

It's actually a remake, pretending badly to be a remaster. See, there's a confusion in terms here. These games are only "remasters" in the sense that there are no deliberate improvements *, but they are re-MAKES in the sense that all the polygon data were imported over to a modern engine and then re-assembled into something like the original game, with missions, and cutscenes, and pick-ups. Not from scratch, but a lot of it. The ORIGINAL facial animations were based on the old "mirror-image"-style faces that were used in San Andreas. Grove Street *made the decision to update the facial textures to be asymmetrical more like real faces, but they didn't then go to the effort of re-creating all the facial animations for their new faces (because THAT would be unnecessary improvements, I guess?) In other words, it's not a direct PORT as we would consider a true remaster, but what we actually have is closer to one of those YT videos that "recreates GTA in Unreal Engine in 10 hours". And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Grove Street Games off-shored all their development. That's why this fake remaster is so janky and doesn't feel like a remaster at all, because it's a bad remake.
Companies then: "We encourage modding as it engages the community more strongly with our games and helps us improve our games" Companies now: "You will play exactly how we want you to play, you touch the code we take your house!"
Fun fact: Rockstar didn't even make the definitive editions. They hired the same developers that made the phone, Xbox 360 and ps3 remaster of Gta San Andreas

I got myself original, physical copies of II, VC and SA last year, as I couldn't get them through R* Launcher. I can still access and play them if I want to and I'm happy with it. I was also happy to see the remasters coming, but before I'd spend $60 on them, I'll watch all the experiences of others

I don’t understand Rockstar games. They made a version of GTA: SA for Xbox 360 and they simply just ported over the mobile version. Which turned out to be a horrendous idea. Then with this remaster, it’s essentially that. They just “updated” the mobile port.

They knew it was so bad they took away any competition by removing the originals so you have to buy this shit. They took down mods because they were insecure it would make the remaster look bad lmao.

People say that the graphics were made like this for mobile games... as a mobile gamer I can safely say that these graphics are bad even for mobile gamers. Call Of Duty: Mobile’s “low graphics” settings are almost 10x better than GTA San Andreas’s graphics. The performance itself is also way WAY better. The mobile scene has improved drastically
Fun fact: These "unintentional files" are apparently (some people checked it) files from dev version of the original trilogy, not even the definitive edition ones. Once again "professional" game devs couldn't fix a 20 yo bug in a new engine that fans fixed in the original engine years ago.

It’s such a shame. GTA III and Vice City’s remasters are actually pretty good. There a few character models in it that are bad and the rain at night makes it impossible to see clear, and the San Andreas sound effects on the menu are annoying but other than that, it’s pretty damn good. But San Andreas from what I’ve seen seems absolutely terrible. Bad textures, glitches, and several terrible character models and no expressions. And this whole fiasco with RGL is inexcusable.
I’m currently using a pirated exe as to circumvent them it’s crazy we have to resort to this. I’m literally using a no cd crack in a legit version of the game like wtaf their incompetence is amazing.

There are some incredible remakes out there. Spyro being one of them. I would also like to add Wonder Boy, The Dragons Trap. It looks super sharp and the re-made music and sounds is just amazing. It uses the exact same physics as it used back on the Sega Master System. You can even switch the graphics and sound between old and new. It is a masterpiece. A true GTA 3 remake alone would be worth $70 to me, if it was on par with Spyro or Dragons Trap.
When mods and texture packs authors for trilogy did faaaar better job than the company that made these games.

It took me ten review videos to find somebody that actually reviewed this truthfully.
We're at the point where companies as big as EA, Bethesda and Rockstar KNOW they are too big to fail. They can re-release the same game over, and over, and over. People will buy it. They can offload the remaster of threee of their most popular and beloved games to a company who half assed the 360 version of San Andreas and has proven they are incompetent in game design. Doesn't matter. They'll just remove the original games from the store, threaten to sue any modders who made graphical mods and force those down. Giving you no choice BUT to buy the remaster. Whether it sucks ass or not, people will buy it. Effort and passion are not a requirement.
All the old talent at Rockstar left. Dan Houser, Lazlow Jones. Everything POST RDR2 from Rockstar will likely suck ass because that's when they all left. Now Rockstar will just release half assed shit, and milk GTA Online. I'm not even excited for GTA 6 at this point because it'll likely lack all the old Rockstar Charm. No one who made the games since GTA V are there anymore.

This is absolute proof that it is morally acceptable to pirate all of Rockstar's games. As Gabe Newell famously said, piracy is a service problem. When the experience from pirates is better in every way than the "legitimate" offerings, that is damning of the company, and they need to do better if they want your money.
Exactly why I don't mind buying games on steam, but if you try to force your own launcher on me like ubisoft or Rockstar then im just going to pirate instead.

Major lighting issues. Some of the old ambient light doesn't translate to the new lighting system, so entire areas are just super under-lit. It needed finessing, not someone saying "oh that's out of scope".

Anyone that looked into who made these Remasters had a feeling this was coming. Grove Street Games (formerly known as "War Drum Studios") made the previous mobile ports and the HD ports (for modern consoles) of the OG GTA games. Anyone who looked critically at those ports (Vladim among others) saw a broken mess with zero love for what these games were.
This is Rockstar's fault first and foremost, they knew this would happen and didn't give a shit, they just want quick money off of this.

The weird thing to me is that Rockstar either makes 10/10 masterpieces or 1/10 cash grabs. There are not other scenarios. Ubisoft for example makes consistent 6/10 games. But you know as a consumer that the games might not be the best, but they are still really enjoyable. Rockstar on the other hand is a 50/50 dice roll where you can expect either a masterpiece or a lazy cashgrab.

I honestly think GTA 6 will be a disappointment. I don’t trust Rockstar to not fuck it up. Rockstar went from a good company to an absolutely horrible one, like they are almost down there with Ubisoft, EA, and Activision. Billion dollar company and they are too lazy to make a proper remaster, and they literally delayed another port of GTA 5. Fuck Rockstar.
It's actually a remake, pretending badly to be a remaster. See, there's a confusion in terms here. These games are only "remasters" in the sense that there are no deliberate improvements *, but they are re-MAKES in the sense that all the polygon data were imported over to a modern engine and then re-assembled into something like the original game, with missions, and cutscenes, and pick-ups. Not from scratch, but a lot of it. The ORIGINAL facial animations were based on the old "mirror-image"-style faces that were used in San Andreas. Grove Street *made the decision to update the facial textures to be asymmetrical more like real faces, but they didn't then go to the effort of re-creating all the facial animations for their new faces (because THAT would be unnecessary improvements, I guess?) In other words, it's not a direct PORT as we would consider a true remaster, but what we actually have is closer to one of those YT videos that "recreates GTA in Unreal Engine in 10 hours". And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Grove Street Games off-shored all their development. That's why this fake remaster is so janky and doesn't feel like a remaster at all, because it's a bad remake.
Companies then: "We encourage modding as it engages the community more strongly with our games and helps us improve our games"
Companies now: "You will play exactly how we want you to play, you touch the code we take your house!"

I got myself original, physical copies of II, VC and SA last year, as I couldn't get them through R* Launcher. I can still access and play them if I want to and I'm happy with it. I was also happy to see the remasters coming, but before I'd spend $60 on them, I'll watch all the experiences of others

People say that the graphics were made like this for mobile games... as a mobile gamer I can safely say that these graphics are bad even for mobile gamers. Call Of Duty: Mobile’s “low graphics” settings are almost 10x better than GTA San Andreas’s graphics. The performance itself is also way WAY better. The mobile scene has improved drastically

Edit: The reason people can't get more that 30 fps is because past that the physics break. Once again "professional" game devs couldn't fix a 20 yo bug in a new engine that fans fixed in the original engine years ago.

well its probably because the company/studio that made the remaster was the one that also made rockstar's GTA mobile ports
I watched a stream of San Andreas remastered on Twitch without knowing that that there is a remastered Version of it and thought the Streamer installed a mod that changes the Graphic. It just looks like a badly modded version of GTA lol.

It’s such a shame. GTA III and Vice City’s remasters are actually pretty good. There a few character models in it that are bad and the rain at night makes it impossible to see clear, and the San Andreas sound effects on the menu are annoying but other than that, it’s pretty damn good. But San Andreas from what I’ve seen seems absolutely terrible. Bad textures, glitches, and several terrible character models and no expressions. And this whole fiasco with RGL is inexcusable.

....Anyone who played Homeworld Remaster and Starcraft 1 Remaster KNOWS how bullshit that is. The sounds in those remasters are completely cleaned up and sound amazing *and* nostalgic, because it's the exact same god damn sound.. just no longer in 32 fucking Kbps.

Keep in mind, GTA 5, in 2020 alone, generated $911 million for its developer Rockstar Games. They had the money to do it right, but they outsourced it, and accepted a dumbed down version, and then released it to eager fans. Shame on Rockstar. The new Tommy Vercetti looks more like Minecraft Steve than he looks like the old Tommy. The environment looks good. I appreciate some effort there, but the rain and the character models? Holy.. weapon wheel? Choice. Checkpoints and auto-saving? Excellent. But literally I want to light a bag of dog crap on fire and put it on Rockstar's front porch. They pranked us. We should prank them.

the only thing that makes the remaster worth anything to me is the mission checkpoints they help tremendously
I think checkpoints remove the challenge in some games.
The checkpoints were already in mobile ports. Yes, i think that mobile ports are still "better" than this. Maybe worse graphics but they still have the atmosphere and loading screens in sa.
I love that a multi billion dollar company couldn't just have made a complete remake.
Rockstar: removes old versions of classic gta's on steam and charge 50 USD to buy the remasters on their launcher and then remove the games.
