Latvian beer Is one of the best in the world... And yeah the garlic bread (especially fresh) and beer go together great..
It is not that good, do not exaggerate. It tends to be too sweet, a regular Czech or Bavarian lager is much better.
Latvian beer is really great

I am Latvian. And yes, Skrīveru GOTIŅA is expensive but they are extremely delicious!
Expecially when fresh (with soft middle)
Too fuking sweet
They are not expensive. Ja tev 1 eiro ir dārgs tad tev alga droši vien ir 5 eiro mēbesī (no offense)
Daily Sandwich lai es nopirktu 10g gotiņu končas ,man tas izmaksā 5$ . Kas ir daudz par 10g konču. Nezinu cik maksā Latvijā un kaut kā īsti arī neinteresē, bet Kanādā Skrīveru saldumi ir paši dārgākie. Latviešu veikalā.
Yummy
I’m from Lithuania 🇱🇹 it’s near to Latvia 🇱🇻 and all food in this country’s is so good 👍

A lot of British people go to Latvia for parties. It is very common and the flights are very frequent and cheap.

Hey! Such a nice video, guys! I wanted to give a little info about the sweets that you had. So, the Gotiņa candy (means cow but diminutive) - Alex had with hazelnuts. Next, the crunchy garlic bread is rye bread baked in oil and then covered in garlic. "Tagad" (means "now" it's just the name) was puffed rice balls in milk chocolate. Next you had the little candies - Lācītis ķepainītis (hard to translate, but basically bear (also diminutive)) is waffel candy with almond taste. Next Diana - black currant and apple jelly candy covered in chocolate. Next, Talismans, interesting story, they are made exclusively for Latvia's 100th birthday, as it's a very "old" candy, made in 1920's, and they didn't make them for some time, it's chicory pomade (like a cream). Next, Vētrasputns (Thunderbird) a very loved candy, one of the most popular in Latvia, is milk pomade covered in chocolate. Next, Serenāde, also a very popular one, is apricot and nuts in chocolate. Next is Trifele, and it means, well, Truffle (this is one of my favourites), cacao cream, but not really a cream, more like a... soft chocolate candy covered in cacao dust. Next, Zephyr, is a sweet made from apple puree, but it has all kinds of flavours. The soft texture is from apple pectin that is a sort of gelling agent, which gives the meringue/marshmallow feeling. Next, Riga black balsam candies, is just dark chocolate with black balsam and Balsam is a unique Latvian made bitter alcoholic drink with 45% alcohol by vol. Made from 24 different herbs, roots, berries, burnt sugar and all kinds of other interesting things, it has a very extraordinary herbal-like taste. You're supposed to eat the candy whole. About the last box I just wanted to say, that those four names on the box "Kurzeme", "Zemgale", "Latgale" and "Vidzeme" are four historical and cultural Latvian regions, and those dancers are showing the historical national costumes that are associated with each region (although there are many more costumes for almost every historical town, village and area). And the candies in this box definitely don't have alcohol.
Thanks for the great video! I'm going to the store for some snacks now!
Wow thank you so much for taking your time to write all of that for us. Means a lot ♥️♥️
lācītis ķepainītis gang
Hey vel kāds no Latvijas
@@saseytm3081 jaa
Very precise description about each piece but i have to disagree about last box. It said "Amareto" on that box and it is an alcoholic drink( I never tried exactly this chocolate box but I know for sure that " Amareto" is name for alcoholic drink) . So it might contain alcohol ..
You should try Latvian kitchen not only snacks - its more interesting - like pink cold soup etc.
Yess its so tasty, jaaaa tas ir tik garšīgs
PINK COLD SOUO IS THE BEST THING IN THE WOOOORRRRLLLDDD!!!#!
Kinda fucked up that it's Lithuanian
Pink cold soup is lithuanian lmao
That's Russia
On the Cover of the box of chocolates it is actually our traditional dance costumes for each region of Latvia.
and no alcohol inside

My mom is Latvian.. and Gotina are my fav forever. I grew up calling them cow candy and when we could get our hands on them (which is not always easy in the States) we were SO excited. Glad you liked them. And the classic is the only one I love too. Laima chocolates are the brand in Latvia... and can be bought in the US at most European or Russian grocery stores. Some of them are really quite good.
Hello from Latvia, as i'm Latvian this was fun to watch it and see what you think of our local food! :)
You all are welcome to Latvia! ;)

The thing about the Gotina type of caramel candy is that when they are fresh (as in a few days or weeks), the middle stays really soft and gooey and oozes just like on the package. But the more they sit, the harder they get with time, so I believe yours were affected by travel, time, etc. :) This type of candy is so classic in Poland, too!
Ahhh I see! Thank you for letting us know this. Bet they are even more amazing fresh! 🤤
Latvia is in the Baltic Region and part of the former Soviet Union. I went to Estonia when in the Military and Met many Latvians there.
Thank you for letting us know. Have you kept in touch with any people you met in Latvia?
It was back in 1998 and unfortunately, I lost contact since. We were in Estonia, but many other countries came to Estonia to help rebuild their infrastructure. It was called Baltic Challenge and we were there to provide humanitarian aid to Estonia. Latvia and a few other countries also sent their military to help. Norway and Sweden were also present in this particular mission. Estonia was so beautiful, especially the City Talin, and the people were so friendly, the Latvians were very similar in culture.
@@ThisWithThem Come on, how can you not know at least an approximate location of a European country? You don't have lessons of European political geography in elementary or high school? That begs a question about the quality of UK's education system.
All you know is - former USSR... show some respect and shut fuck up, asshole.
We are not Soviet Union anymore we were lile 30 years before😊

I love, love "Šorberts" and i was confused when you didn't like it, and the moka thing is made in some kind of wafer cake and it goes amazingly with morning evening or day coffee😊. Oh, and I am so appreciative that you took your time to taste Latvian candy and snacks.(btw I'm from Latvia)
Latvia is older then 100 years. That is the time when we got freedom
Yess, exactly
We got freedom but the government is corrupt
Latvian flag is one of the oldest flag in the world.
Kate smelling the soap = hilarious!! What a great assortment!
My step Grandma was from Latvia. The coffee waffer square, caramels, and cranberry biscuits looked delicious.
I love the diversity of the locations you try candy from. You and Alex are just the best your channel makes me so happy. Always smiling when I see you’ve uploaded ❤️
So cool isn’t it! Love getting to try what different countries have to offer.
Ah thank you so much ♥️ thanks for all the support
LOVe when she does American accent!
when you buy "Gotiņa" candies in mall, they are not like picture, but when you buy at original candystore, there will be like in picture. :)
Depends on how long they`ve been in shelf/standing. The fresher, the softer. Have tasted like 1-2 days old Gotiņa and I had to eat it straight out of wrapper.
@@Ketuciic Idk..when they stay 1 week in store is nice. But older... nah..
@@BetaBalode " 1-2 days old Gotiņa" is very fresh, angļu valodā tāpat kā latviešu valodā saka "...days old" jeb "...dienu vecs."

I'm from Latvia and I would enjoyed this video if you would have known where is our country. Just do a little research before to know where exactly we are in Europe. It is rare to see someone on this platform to talk about our country, review stuff. If you would have done some research about this, this video would be like a learning process for all the viewers. We are a pretty small country so we go a little bit nuts when someone mentions us. Maybe you could do it with every video, to include some interesting facts about foreign countries?
Also, I'm really happy that you liked mostly every candy that we are making. There were great examples of what we are munching here in Baltics. The sender did a good job choosing them!
I hope that in future you will visit Latvia and get the taste of our beer with our chips and fresh garlic bread aside. 😊
It's not that deep sister
I'm from Latvia and im glad that you are trying Latvian products and sweets
Me too!
Best sweet in Latvia is "Karums"
I don't think its the best... But i like them!
Yessssss they’re sooooo good
My name is Helēna Brodere and I’m Latvijan. I am proud of my country,
one which unfortunately doesn’t receive a great deal of attention. It’s
a pleasant surprise watching your video and I hope that you enjoyed the snacks our beautiful country has to offer.
That was fun to watch and laugh at incorrect pronunciation :D
Hi! i am from Latvia and I enjoyed your video about my homecountry! I wanted to add that the chocolate mint fudge you tried comes also in different flavors if you do not prefere a mint one. For example, rasberry, vanilla, also without chocolate. and they are just awesome! So if you ever have chance try those ones too! Cheers :) Amanda
We're going to Latvia this summer (from USA) and I already promised my sister I'd send her a bag of those Creamy Mushroom potato chips. She loves mushrooms. Thanks! BTW, we stay with my Mother-In-Law in Poland as our "home base" and travel around, often with her, each summer on extended stays. This summer we'll also be going to Greece, Norway and Lithuania.
Ahh how lovely!! Yes you definitely need to. Oh wow that sounds amazing. I hope you have the best time
Idk but all latvian snack tasting videos pop up in my suggested videos . I dont mind because im latvian 😅 Čau!

I've had every single candy which was on the table cuz im from Latvia 🇱🇻
I’m from Latvia and those bring back so many memories. It’s hard to find good snacks like that in America
Every time I watch you two I start to crave chocolate!! I almost went to the store tonight to go buy something yummy. But I stayed strong and stayed home!! You have wonderful tasks to do!! Yummy
We also have Maltesers in the US. They were officially released in stores here in January of 2017 along with a marketing campaign featuring Casper Lee. One thing to note is that American Maltesers are made in Ontario, Canada.
Ah no way!!
The names on the lid of the box are regions of Latvia, my Dad was from Latgale. That’s in the far eastern part of Latvia. My Mum was Estonian. I have tried both Latvian and Estonian candy, sent from my cousin in Estonia. Good stuff. Thirty years ago, I had some Latvian chocolate from the time it was part of the Soviet Union....let’s just say not so good. (You were right about Eurovision. Latvia won it the year after Estonia did.)
I'm from Latvia, you need to try Latvian beers, they are soooo good.

Hello from Latvia! Thank you for trying our snacks! 😄👏
Oh wow!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!❤❤❤
I love how Alex just thinks about what everything would be like with a beer 😂😂
Kurzeme,Zemgale,Vidzeme,Latgale are 4 historical Latvian Regions, each region has there own folk dance style and costume(which are presented on the last candy box), each has slang or a distinct accent. In our capital city Riga our Statue of Freedom is holding 3 stars(Kurzeme,Vidzeme and Latgale)
I’m from Latvia and I love watching vidos where someone try something from Latvia...
You must have seriously been dropping geography classes to not know where Latvia is. Both countries in Europe.

Sooo the names on the large chocolate box are actually the names of our countries 4 large states but they also have smaller ones.(they don't have alcohol)

Hey Kate and Alex! I was pleasantly surprised to see a box from Latvia! I love seeing foreign snacks or foods especially from countries I’ve never heard of their cuisine. Those chocolates looked amazing! I see you both really like mushroom chips. I’m not a fan of actual mushrooms but I do like the creamy mushroom soups. I’m going to have to try some mushroom chips one day. I love liquor filled chocolates. I remember my aunt from Croatia sent us ones with cherries inside and I didn’t know it had liquor in it. I almost choked on it cuz I was only a young teenager lol. Thank you for making some amazing videos. Can’t wait for the next one!
Hey Klara! So pleased you enjoyed watching this box from Latvia ☺️ ahh you’ll have to try find some as I’m not the biggest mushroom fan but love them.
Haha they’re so strong aren’t they 😂 ah thank you so much. So pleased you enjoyed watching

I love your videos!!! You guys inspired my kids and I to try British candy and make our own video. Everything looked so good, that we bought a ton of stuff and had to split it into 3 videos. We decided to try candy/snacks from a different country every month. I never would have thought of Latvia!! I was only thinking of the bigger countries, but this video has definitely opened my eyes to the vast options of countries that we can do. Thanks for your awesome videos!!!
I am so pleased to hear we have helped inspire you and your kids. That makes me so happy to hear. There are so many places to try so I hope you have as much fun as we do ☺️
Thank you! For our first go round, we had a ton of fun! I’m sure the other countries will be a blast as well😊
We have the best snacks, beer, and drinks, it's beautifully made.
The last candies weren’t alcoholic and the word they wondered if was alcohol means dark
Those Gotina aren’t very expensive, the opposite, they are very common, there are a lot of different brands that make them! Im from Latvia 🇱🇻
Some Latvians here? Like if you are from Latvia or was born there❤🇱🇻

They're actually selling Maltesers here in the US now, and I must say I definitely like them better than Whoppers. Loved your video! So neat to see foods from other countries.

Hi Kate and Alex 😊😊I enjoy watching you guys😁
Hey Cindy! Thank you ☺️
Hi, I'm from Latvia. Loved your video. If you liked those sweets, you can find them in little polish stores.
That cheesecake truffle looks so yummy.
It was so good 😍
My favourite latvian snacks are serbets, serenade and zefirs . I just absolutely love serenade with all my heart, so so good
I wanna try those mushroom chips 😋
As a Latvian, I can say they are VERY delicious
Gotiņa is is just like what we used to make at home when I was little. Just mix milk and sugar in a metal pot, then boil and stir. When it becomes dense, cool it. That is for this type of soft and brittle sweets. Of course, you add cocoa powder, coffee, raisins, crushed nuts and vanilla, etc. to taste. If you want a toffee, just boil and stir a little longer. Also, we used to have many more factories where these sweets were made when I was little than we do now.
So sorry Kate and Alex where I am living in 🇨🇦 There are high winds storm when it over I'll watch your video Love ❤️
Ah no way! Hope you’re okay. Enjoy watching when you do ☺️♥️
I am okay Kate and Alex inside my nice warm house with my family and my Labrador dog & Cats Love ❤️

The liquid centres of chocolates aren’t liquid when first made and coated in chocolate. They are made with invert or inverse sugar which over a few weeks turns back into a liquid. It’s a process that takes time that’s why liquor chocolates are expensive.
Hey kids!! You both look great! I really enjoyed that! Lativa sounds yummy!! So interesting! I learn so much from you two!!
Thank you Madonna! So glad you enjoyed watching ♥️ and it’s nice to hear you learnt some things too ☺️
On the chocolate box. Those are four regions of Latvia. They are called like that form time of last crusades and also present time. And those costumes on the box are costumed for those regions since viking era.

You forgot about Germans too, they made us a lil' better, more educated, collected some history about us, made books in latvian, germans tried made us not so paganic, but still we stayed till now the most paganic nation in Europe. Well, you also didn't mention that Latvians use to be owners of Tobago. WE DIDN'T MADE THOSE BLACK PEOPLE SLAVES, we didn't act like killer invaders - OUR DUKE JACOB PAYED THEM SALARY.
