that is a lie, china has elections, they elect mayors and municipals which then elect provincial leaders which then elect the final party leader, its actually similar in canada and norway in the past, where you simply vote for the major that represents the party instead of directly for the person
@@NeostormXLMAX sure... with the slight difference that candidates have to be preapproved by the CCP itself, information is controlled by the leader, so is the media and most of the internet, local elections are rigged, candidates are intimidated or fall from tall bridges and anyone who happens to oppose the leader just ends up evaporating out of nowhere.
In Australia, if we don't vote, we get a fine.

5:20 To be fair, the moderator put Dukakis in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, where if he said yes to the question he would be immediately ousted for making an exception, while if he said no he would be called cruel and harsh for not wanting what was excepted as "justice" for the man who would have raped and murdered Dukakis's wife.
Yeah, but the point is that he answered it without emotion. He could have maintained exactly the same position but waffled on with how horrific and heart wrenching it would be.
I would’ve been like, “Well, maybe the overwhelming shock and grief would cause me to abandon my principles and seek death for whomever seems like the killer. Would you want a leader in that headspace, though? Why even ask this question? What relevance does this have?
He should've responded with a counter question where if a convicted murderer were put to death then was found innocent the next day should Bush feel comfortable knowing he killed an innocent man?
Just another reason to never take a solid position on anything of consequence.
It was definitely a wildly inappropriate question.

Bold claim that the '84 election was decided by one quip, as if Reagan wasn't immensely popular already.
As a non American with incredibly little knowledge of any of your presidential history, especially Reagan (i didn't even know he was a movie star), I assumed he was just using that particular incident as an example? My interpretation of the point he was trying to make was that... at the end of the day one liners and other small momentary incidents, regardless of their political relevance, can potentially have way more impact then even the most robust and well constructed argument or policy.

Then again, Mondale (Reagan's opponent in that debate) would later say he knew he lost the election after that night haha. Reagan was popular but his performance in the first debate made it look like he was too senile and unreliable for a second term. After that quip in the second debate, all those questions and doubts about his mental health (the biggest weapon his opponent could use against him in that election) became completely ineffective and irrelevant.
Reagan is a master when it comes to tv speech. There are countless videos about his jokes and one liners. The guy was charismatic, no one can deny that.

important note about the house of reps and incumbents, theres like 450 something people in the house, every 2 years we run an election on them. That's the reason they get re-elected so often. It's a lot of people, removing incumbents more regularly makes it harder for things to happen. In the senate it's about 100, re-elected every 6 years, on a two year voting cycle, so a third is rotated out at a time, its much slower.
