Tonight shows he's probably gonna be effective as a sub, and Kane is scoring goals. Bring on Toney for penalties, seems like the best blueprint we have as far as the striker position goes. I'd actually like to see Kane and Watkins play together, I think that would be a big problem for opposition to handle. I mean, why Trippier or 3 players trying to play the 10 when you could go for the jugular with two hungry, regular goalscorers. Playing two up front is so rare these days.

Watkins constantly runs in behind, that would drive the defence back, and that would have given Bellingham Mainoo Foden even more space and they would have caused even more havoc than the first half.

Southgate had a decent managerial game, but I disagree with Cundy. Harry Kane, yes he scored the questionable pen, but offered nothing. Toney or Watkins should've started. Shaw should've started over Trippier, for balance. Gordon...What does he have to do to get a start?! It's a joke that Gordon has not been fully utilised. Then again, Southgate doesn't watch Newcastle. If we are to beat Spain we should rotate the squad, add more speed, athletic attacking options as Kane isn't athletic. We need more impetus. 1st half was our best performance, 2nd half we regressed back to garbage.
Other than the pen, don't actually recall Kane doing anything other than losing possession and dropping deep, Palmer and Watkins come on and within 10 mins we have a goal from open play
I'm assuming Southgate simply didn't believe Shaw was fit enough for a full match. Although it seems to me that if you're planning to bring him on at some point, there's nothing wrong with having him start the match and then replacing him with Trippier if he's flagging or has any injury niggles.

Unless Southgate actually drops his lieutenant and gives Eze, Watkins, Toney, Palmer and Gordon time in the final each to show what they can bring. Kane will kill the momentum, Foden the same. Spain can execute England without problem.

Let's not forget Gordon plays in Newcastle under Eddie Howe where he has to track back a lot. He would not have been a defensive liability

Becoming a champion is a journey, it requires steady progress, focus and desire to become the best and Southgate has taken England further in that regard than any other England manager in 58 years.

Apologise for what? England have a one good half of football in six games, struggled against four mediocre sides, and only just got through against two good but limited teams. Some of Southgate squad selections have been baffling (as was the decision for the penalty), so is choosing to ignore your entire left hand side, fielding two number tens, picking a centre forward who doesn't seem to want to play where he's needed, whose consistently struggled to read the play and takes too long to react with in game decisions. Around 53 minutes in yesterday's game, I could see some changes were soon going to be needed. So I thought "make two substitutions on 60 mins", add some pace and width to the team, I'm getting that all too familiar feeling. The 60th minute goes by, still waiting and by the 70th minute? Holland were in the ascendancy, missing chances, Pickford saving at corners and still no decision. Jamie and Jason have been excellent in this tournament (unlike Southgate), they have shown their clear love and passion for this great sport. Watching and listening to them has been fun, their interactions perfectly incapsulate what it means to support this tiny island and their in game reactions have been sincere and devoid of the fakery and plasticity, which other Chanels have struggled to replicate. So, again, what exactly have they got to be sorry for?
And yet...Southgate has just taken us to back to back Euros finals 🤷 so he obviously knows what he's doing.
There's no easy games once you qualify for the tournament, what matters is finding a way to progress and while other big nations like Italy, France, Portugal, Germany and Croatia are all licking their wounds, England under Southgate are one game away from ultimate glory by improving steadily in every game

@@lovette7684 Look at the teams we've faced to get to semis from the KO rounds - Colombia and Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland and 3 of those was by the skin of our teeth. At the last Euros we beat a poor Germany but bear in mind we had home advantage most of the way. Let's be honest, the Brazil and Portugal teams that Sven faced in the QFs were better than any team Southgate has faced in a KO round, aside from the ones he actually lost to.

There are no easy games once you qualify. We had no mugs in our group with Denmark being the best of the three, Slovakia aren't easy, Switzerland performed better than Croatia, France, Italy and Portugal so certainly weren't easy and the Dutch are always dangerous. Now we play the best performer's in this tournament in Spain just like we did in 2020 when we faced Italy.

Saka was selfish in the first half. At least 3 times he cut inside couldnt get a shot off and ended running nearly the width of the penalty area rather than passing to players who were open. Hes looking for personal glory above all else. Him cutting inside is as predictable as Ashley Young was at UTD and Holland knew it. If the opposition can nullify your play that easily you become completely ineffective and if you cant cross with your wrong foot and if you refuse to pass you are just taking a spot in the team from someone who is maybe more effective.

Can’t believe what I’m hearing here. Have we forgotten the Kalvin Phillips comment? Or the Trent experiment and playing Conor Gallagher ahead of Mainoo in the earlier games? Some of us are not that fickle. Southgate has been poor this tournament. We have been very lucky. People saying he made the right changes in this game, the game was turning 10-15mins before he made those subs. If he’d made them earlier I would agree but again, he got lucky. Let’s hope he realises his shortcomings for the final. Spain are miles better than Netherlands based on that performance.

@@philbarton2832Very difficult to compare managers over time because the quality of the squads they had vary enormously as do the opposition. He’s a mediocre coach who is good a team spirit. A good coach would have won a trophy by now and would have us playing better football.

Southgate picked the wrong team again, once he had removed Kane, who 90% of people said should not be starting, we won.

The answer is more than you think. A manager can change the entire formation from the sidelines if he wants and can tweak things too. He can also make subs that affect the game which Southgate has excelled at in particular this tournament. He can also give quick team talks if/when there's a delay during games and of course can affect a lot of things during half time.
I can assure you the young players look at Kane as nothing less than an absolute inspiration buddy, he's England's all time top goalscorer and captain for a reason. He hasn't been at his best but he's still in the running for the golden boot

@@philbarton2832It was luck because it happened in the last minute, wasn’t the result of any plan or strategy or the culmination of lots of pressure. We didn’t deserve to go through. Southgate’s inability to change the game has cost on many occasion and nearly did so again.
@@philbarton2832 Have you watched England play the last 8 years. It has been generally dross against much weaker teams where we have won because of the quality of our players. Southgate has no clue about tactics, team selections, style of play, attacking innovation, and worst of all in-game management. This is why you see what you see. He kept bringing Gallagher on ahead of Mainoo. He left Kane on far too long in every game. He’s Bellingham on too long. He’s played Foden out of position.
