  • In the tenth episode of Shipp's Tips, Des heads to South Wales, more specifically to Dol-y-gaer Reservoir in Merthyr Tydfil, a water ran by Merthyr Tydfil Angling Alliance that regularly runs open matches and festivals. Bream and skimmers are the primary target but roach and perch are also welcome additions. With the venue often fished by carp anglers this instantly gives Des an idea of how he would like to approach the venue with a strong focus towards baits such as fishmeal groundbaits, pellets and corn and less so about your typical natural bait assortment.

    I feel that if you're not getting a bite within 30 secs of the feeder touching the bottom (ie. on the drop) then long hooklinks are just harming your bite indication. The bait on a 2ft hooklength typically lands within 20cm of the feeder unless you twitch it back towards you so if it's sat on the bottom for any duration then you're just giving them room to pick it up and drop it before you get any kind of rattle on the tip.

    Quick question…a few weeks ago I used braid for the first time ever…I caught a few however I had difficulty sinking the braid, this was sinking feeder braid. Tomorrow I’m going to give it another go…my question is…can you use washing up liquid on braid ?

    Hi, you made quite a lot of feeding corn at the start. Did you actually try it, to avoid the smaĺler fish ?

      It was good for a few better bonus fish but tended to wait a long time for bites in comparison to worms or maggots. Certainly reduced the small fish bites though!

    Only a match angler could go to a Carp lake and fish for mini silvers!!!!

    • @brentsanglingadventures1611

      @colinbrown4719 Před 3 lety +1

      Bill Holcombe .....What utter crap you talk , personally I would prefer a net of silvers to a net of Carp . Carp are overrated and SOME PEOPLE get sick of catching them , OH and it’s a Reservoir , not a Lake , If you cannot tell the difference ? I suggest watching more CZcams channels about learning to fish .

    No doubt a lovely bloke ....but this is not fishing....It's like catching logs and sticks , not fish ....Go and take on a big salmon or trout ....way way more fun ...
