What a great video. Des catching in tricky windy cold conditions. Beautifully filmed with good close up shots catching the bites, I don’t know if that’s Joe C behind the camera but whoever it was it was very good. A very important lesson for those who ship straight out long in the belief that the fish don’t come close in the winter. Very good reply to the guy who commented that he wished he could afford a pole. Regards Bill

Love watching Des fishing, working at it constantly. The only disappointment on this vid was at the 54.53 point when Des changed his hook - I might've missed Des placing the discarded hook length in his tackle box but it looked to me as though he threw it into the water? Fishing line can tangle up on birds' legs.
What kind of challenge is to go to fishery farm to catch fish in water full of fish? It's like finding sand on Sahara :D

Hi Phillip, of course, we wouldn't wish to presume anybody's budget. But for what it's worth, a pole setup doesn't have to be overly expensive. If you look towards margin poles (The Preston Innovations Edge Monster stands out) you're looking sub-£150 for an 8.5m model. Just a case of building from there. Again, don't wish to suggest £150 isn't a lot of money, it is, but doesn't necissarily 'have' to be the thousands of which we see and hear the top level anglers spend.
I get a lot of my gear second hand - keep an eye out constantly because there are loads of guys who can afford the latest upgrades and I step in for the cast-offs!

Would be useful to have timer on screen to know at what point Des is doing things. Does Des ever use back shot?
Des prefers not to use back shot and doesn't incorporate them in his own fishing. He prefers to select a float/size of float that can deal with the conditions, can see the benefits of back shot put his personal preference is to increase float size if conditions don't allow for a lighter float.
