- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. It's not an official Post 10 vlog until we hear "and my butt is wet."
Just a tip with the tow strap. If you loop one end through the other and not tie it you can get the strap loosened up after to get it back apart without cutting it and still be able to put it on your tow hook or winch hook. Great work!!

Have you seen the video where goes exploring afterward and happens upon a lodge. He came face to face with a PISSED beaver and has been quite a bit more cautious since. And yup, I'm constantly scanning for beaver too, even though I know I'm a thousand miles and days late to be of any assistance. Lol

When you tried pulling the grate with your truck it reminded me of the time I tried using my Blazer to pull a shrub out of my yard. We tried and tried with chains attached to the trailer hitch, 4WD low, etc. Nothing worked. We ended up having a guy with a Bobcat come over and he had it out in 5 seconds.
When I heard your tires spin I wondered if the beavers got together and learned how to cement.

It's good to see the beavers so close to where you're working
D shackles. A trick that i learned is to place a branch or rolled up magazine in the knot so it doesn't constrict to the point you need to cut it off.
The other trick is if you don't have the official blanket. Lay a rope or ratchet strap bundle loosely over it.

Did it cross anyone else mind than sneaking up behind Post 10 with a ping pong paddle in the water could be fun?
BTW you should get a chunk of old carpet or buy like a harbor freight packing pad. When pulling like that toss the packing pad over the tow strap more towards the item being pulled. The pad will slow the hook or the grate (whatever comes loose) from going through your tale gate or your window. Hooks will break, lines/cables can snap or what you are pulling pops loose they can all become dangerous projectiles in a second.
Bonus is you can used the packing pad for emergency warmth in the event you get stranded and didn’t have enough cold protection. Carpet can be used as emergency traction device or pad under sleeping bag.
Either or both will protect your rig (and you) from damage.

@post10, ever think about designing and testing a beaver dam sling? A simple net of chains that lays on the bottom of a culvert entrance. That way they build the majority of their dam on top of the sling. Grab both ends of the sling and hook up to a truck or atv and you have the entire dam pulled. You would need a way to keep both ends of the sling accessible so they don't bury them.

Post, you need a kinetic rope for that kind of work. The rope stretches when you do a truck pull. then you put on the parking brake. the rope keeps pulling. the constant force often breaks free what you are trying to pull. you use these for vehicle recovery too.

Instead of the quick and easy overhand knot that basically guarantees the strap is going to get cut after loading it with your truck, using either an imitation slipped bowline or Kalmyk loop might have allowed you to save it. Both of these knots have the end of the line slipped in a way that allows you to just pull it out to release all of the tension.

Another awesome video!! That beaver was quite the supervisor... :-) As far as lifting the grate: next time use a board or branch or something set vertically on-end next to the water and drape the tow strap over it and then to your truck. That will translate the side pull from your truck to a vertical pull and lift the gate. At least in theory.

In the uk we repopulating The European Beaver smaller than the American Beaver. One Beaver Lodge in a London has bred one kit. Strange but Beaver are doing quite well in the river Otter. The return of the Beavers after 400 years

Hey post, you should take a look at snatch block pulleys. They will make the wench set up way easier and you could set it up to pull away from the pipe and the grate might not of broken. I know you like doing the tough ones by hand anyways. Have a good night!

nice video..always love seeing wildlife in your videos...did you think of looping one end of the tow strap through the hoop of the other end instead of tying a knot. This way you would had to just loosen the loop and slide it back through. just a thought for the future.
if the pile of debris is put right next to the spot you remove it from won't beaver just it right back. move it to a different spot would be a pain though
If the debris is left in the water it will be reused but if it is put on their land next to it I have never found it reused because the Beavers will not reuse material as they think it failed
