Coach (Kyle Chandler) introduces Luke (Matt Lauria) to the Lions and there is immediate tension between him and Vince (Michael B. Jordan). Trying to build morale, Coach buys the team new jerseys with his own money and hides it from Tami (Connie Britton). Tami worries about Julie's (Aimee Teegarden) disillusionment with church. The best show on television. Love how Coach just sees the bigger picture and plays the cards that he’s dealt regardless of the challenging circumstances. A lesson in solid character and making the most of any situation.

Been there as a conditioning coach, spending your own money and the resiumberment went back to our guys. That feeling. Yeah I got a raise eventually but the feeling of your guys feeling appreciated. Like the great teachers who always buy out of pocket. You are teaching a future leader.
I don’t think it is but Friday Night Lights feels like such an underrated show. I never hear it mentioned when talking about some of the best sports dramas and nobody I see reacts to it

I think this conversation, more than any other, made Coach realize how different the situation was at East Dillon. More than the state of the field or the decaying locker room or lack of athletes. At West Dillon, he didn't even need to ask for money - the boosters were already there with a wheelbarrow of cash for state of the art computers, JumoTrons, etc. At East he pleads for money for the basics and is told they can't afford it.
did they ever reveal where coach came up with the rest of the money? between that and julie crashing the car, and julie's college money - that was an expensive year for coach taylor !

In one of the episodes after this one Buddy showed up to practice and said he was gonna start helping out like he did with the panthers. They didn't say he paid for it but in guessing he bailed them out in true Buddy Garrity from 😂
