I love it's basic simplicity utilitarianism, and practicality
I had several Lada Riva's in the 70s. I loved them. I had both the cars and estates. I don't think I ever had a problem with any of them. It's a pity they were stopped coming into this country. I would love another estate, a big handy car.
Had a 1976 1200 estate... beige colour. Hard seats. ate timing chain tensioner, so always had a death rattle.. scrapped in 1984 as was rusty and every thing was worn out ...

Those 70s Ladas where built to last ! They where an improvement on the fiat they where based on . That is why there are still quite a few of them around??

I have owned many cars from a Toyota Celica ST coupe, BMW 520, Audi 100, and many, many others including a LADA but one of my favorites was the LADA 1500 Combi.
Yes, I know it sounds crazy, it was noisy and slow but for simplicity and ease of maintenance and carrying stuff, nothing would beat the Lada.

Apparently the Russians have no problems still driving this car in 2018. If you watch those Trafic Russian Fails videos, you will see a lot of them on the Russian roads. Probably because the car is so reliable after all these years and so cheap to use. I don't how safe it is, but it is a nice experience nonetheless!

It's a Vaz 2101. It's not actually a lada. Its the predecessor to the lada
Sorry but that engine never sat in a Fiat 124. The Lada engine is of an overhead crankshaft design, the Fiat lump was pushrod.

I guess I am lol. I'm working on getting a '72 Lada 1200 (which is why I stumbled upon this video) but the guy I want to get it from will probably be ready to sell it once the tech inspection is due to run out which will be in about a year or so.
You said early versions could be hand cranked but I'm pretty sure this particular car is one of those early ones, you're just missing a hole in the bumper. Maybe it's a rear bumper installed in the front?

pekné video ale tie mriežky na palubke si mal natočené zle preto sa predné okno skoro vôbec neodhmlilo. mal si ich natočiť tak aby mriežky smerovali smerom k oknu a nie do auta a tie stredové rúčky mali vytvoriť písmeno "V", proste aby fúkali na čo najväčšiu plochu okna. zavrieť spodný vetrák pred rýchlostnou pákou, otvoriť prívod vzduchu, trochu kúrenia ventilátor na dtuhú rýchlosť a okno by bolo za cca 200-300 metrov resp. pri cca 10 minútach bežania na voľnobeh odhmlené. :)
