    Some may find this odd, but I think there's a humble understated beauty in this car, and indeed in many cars of the Eastern Bloc.

      +Infinitrium For what it's worth, you're not the only oddball out there. There certainly is an elegance to the classic Lada, the Fiat from which it originated, and many other utilitarian cars of that era. Although we've never had Ladas in the U.S., we did have Fiats, and I remember riding around in a friend's Fiat 131. I, myself, drove a VW Squareback. I never did like the U.S. muscle cars of that era. Too much bluster, for my taste. That's probably a rationalization, because I could never afford one, anyway.

      Infinitrium I too think the "people's cars" are some of the coolest cars out there; Lada, vw beetle, citroen 2cv, trabant, fiat 500, Golf mk1 etc. etc. etc. No performance cars ofc. but cool pieces of history and delightful to maintain!

    My was Jiguli 1973 gray color,one owner, it was awesome car, was almost 40 years old, 450000 km, one time engine rebuild, most parts ware Fiat 124, unfortunately the body was in too bad condition and and I had to take it to scrap back in 2005.... No other car will lieve that long... I miss it so bad!!!

      +azera55555 Well there is, but not on the exterior panels. I think i saw rust when he opened the front left door on the A pillar. But it's amazing if it's the original color. My parrents had a Dacia 1310 from 1984 and when they sold it in 2004 it was a little rusty on the right front wing which was hit and repainted.

    WOW It may be a Lada but this is the first Russian car that I`ve seen that is ALL FIAT 124. Usually the body may resemble a FIAT but the engine would be a Russian unit ie the FIAT 125 sedan which had a 1608 cc DOHC engine but in Russia it has a 1600 overhead cam engine I believe and it looks similar but not the same. I recognised a lot of the hardware ie relays, door handles, hub caps, air filter casing even the tubes x 4 that the wind up jack pokes into under the body ..all FIAT. You said 1200 cc but I remember our Fiat 124 sedan had a 1100 push rod OHV engine. I love these simple old school cars and thank you for sharing this video.. It has bought back a lot of memories.

  • @andrashorvath6300
    @andrashorvath6300 Před 8 lety +3

    You sure it's a 1980-car? The dashboard and the steering wheel both look like pre-1978. Altough it's got a black speedo and a reverse light, which are 1978+ features. Or it only applies for export cars (even eastern export) and they made mixed cars for Russian domestic market cars from leftover parts?

  • @MrBanaanipommi
    @MrBanaanipommi Před 8 lety +1

    thats choke what you said "carburetor" it is used only to start up engine in cold start, it doesnt help even if it doesnt start easily after shop parking and you are leaving for example. it is because fuel is boiling away from carburetor becauset exhaust manifold is right under carburetor and intake manifold :D so it takes some seconds to start when its warm, usually if its stopped for 5 - 30min it doesnt start that easily.

  • @jwserge
    @jwserge Před 8 lety +3

    Hi from the matherland of all Ladas! :)
    5:40 The engine must not that teribly tremble! It must be as still as a ... a ... a water in dead calm weather
    Checking both - fist the distributor state and the ignition adwance angle (probably it is too early) and secondly the idle mode mixture composition of the carburator.
    Use petrol of 92 octan. (well, or 95.)
    I can not tell you anything about gas system, i'm opponent of the usage of gas!
    Or better is first to tune the carburator, as it works properly in general as i see, and needs to be only Idle Mode regulated by the one special *Mixture Quality Screw* to get optimum - maximum rpm, - or the so called "hill of rpm"., and that is all with carburator.
    Then checking ignition system as there may be number of the problems. Giving too early ignition at the absolutely problemless operable ign. system leads to that trembling. So, to check if the system has or has not bad parts, just give the late ignition up to 10 degrees or so. The engine must get still while the rpm will decrease.
    The distributor's cap, the coil's top - must be clean!
    In this lucky chance, just tune *the correct Adwance Angle* as per Manual (look at 14:40 - it is personal Manual of this car): going 4-th gear 45 km/h push the accelerator full: you must hear *sonorous* yet short lasting detonations while the car accelerates. (long detonations - too early, no detonation - too late). Go test drive then stop and tune by 1-2 degrees, again test drive, so on. (Use the key #13, do not tighten the distributor's nut too tight! ).
    If no lucky - then check the details of the ign system. The insulation of the cap, the HV-wires, the traveler under cap - they some time get electric breakdown, burn throughout. Replace. Now checking the Ignition Dwell Angle of the contact, or check the gap in it with the probe from the key kit - it is important. (13:31 - ups, you do not have this little key-box, look 13:42 - here it is on the floor) The last are the capacitor (0.22 microfarad x 630V), the sparkplugs (gap 0.6-0.7mm - again the probes from the same key), and the last point - coil.
    The best way is to buy russian new modernized contactless ignition kit for 2101-engine which costs less then 100$ - made in Stary Oskol's factory, (БСЗ Старый Оскол), consists of the new powerful coil, the electronic commutator unit, the ENTIRE DISTRIBUTOR unit and the wire bunch. (needs increasing the gap of the plugs to 0.8-0.9mm) it gives good common effect - agility. This car is more interesting then VW Beetle :)
    -------------
    After everithing is done, tune the idle rpm with another tune screw of carburator - *the Mixture Quantity Screw* - to 750-800 rpm/
    Good luck!
    10:00 - sorry, it is not good. Is it petrol or gas? Too much smoge.

    also i can hear that engine this engine has some firing problems or starting valve problem, or one of oilrings may be worn, sounds like same as i have in my lada 21015 (engine 2101) not firing in one cylinder every time, i did overhead rebuilt with new valves and other stuff and every gaskets and like that but still continues that. :D but it goes easily 120km/h still

    this is how it sounds without revving cold engine without choke. it almost fills engine with fuel when giving too much fuel, and thats why it runs with 3 cylinder when giving much gas.

      ankhaa battulga Before trying to be a "smart ass" check your facts straight. The first official LPG station was listed in the International registers this year! Plus petrol is cheap in Russia. LPG is used mainly where petrol is expensive like Italy, The Netherlands etc.
