WHY MIAMI FOOTBALL Was A DUMPSTER FIRE in 2022...

  • Miami is one of the most proud and prestigious programs in college football and with new head coach Mario Cristobal, expectations were high in 2022. Sadly, the season was a complete disaster and today, I want to talk about the season, what went wrong and what the future could look like, enjoy!

      There is a smart comment. Miami is ten years behind in facilities and infrastructure. And once the current construction is complete, they'll still be behind because other programs didn't stop and wait for Miami to catch up. You can't buy time but can overpay for it.

      Never forget that the administration at Miami (dating back to the Jimmy Johnson era) has never wanted to be a “football” school. They wanted to be known as the Harvard of the South. That’s why they built school buildings on the grounds of the Orange Bowl instead of building a new Orange Bowl.

    I know it wasnt the year miami was hoping for but i do believe they have a much better head coach than manny diaz. Cristobal had his work cut out for him. This is really his first true recruiting class, and really his 1st year turning over the roster. Diaz left a "me 1st" culture behind when he got fired, remember watching a game when miami was losing by double digits and when they scored late in the game seeing everyone on sidelines taking selfies with jewelry on despite being behind still. Those players came to play AT miami, Cristobal wants guys who want to play FOR miami.

    Bad culture, physically weak, injuries, Oline couldn’t pick up the blocking scheme, under Manny only 30 pct attended off season workouts, players would have ice cream during spring ball, got to take naps etc etc. Gattis was a douche didn’t want to work with his other coaches, Mario and Alonzo are building a program. Miami was so bad in 2022 due to two critical position groups that did not come close to the recruiting rankings of the last 5-6 years. Oline was abysmal and depth was non existent so when any injury occurred the group went from bad to terrible. The linebacker group was not even ACC level of talent. With the OLINE especially compounded with Gattis change in offensive scheme (run heavy) the offensive with constant 3 and outs, turnovers and poor field position left the defense routinely over extended. Then add the weak middle of defense in LB group, left defense uneven. Small contingent to "culture change" where according to some reports some players checked out.

    We have a major talent gap & culture issue. If you look at NFL draft picks the last 10-15 years it’s been an embarrassing disaster. As far as NFL draft picks which are the ultimate barometer of roster talent / development, back in the day we were the original NFL factory. On the positive, Cristobal’s specialty is recruiting & has nailed top 10 class in a 5-7 year. With no momentum top 10 class. We will be fine as long as we start winning. 3 classes in top 10 & we will be competitive. If we become the trendy team on the come up then watch out. Why would a kid from Florida pick a shit hole SEC cow town over South Beach if we are on a competitive winning trend with Bama / UGA / etc?

    • @timkinley1779
      @timkinley1779 Před rokem

      Why would a top-tier talent choose Miami over an actual football program? I think what they have now is a bunch of players who want South Beach over football. What else does Miami offer? You've got to sale them on a wish. Because reality says Miami doesn't know shit about football. Some kids have put the work in to be extremely successful. Why waste it at Miami instead of going to programs that are relevant and have their shit together? Kids from winning HS teams aren't used to losing. It isn't the recruiters fault or responsibility to fix the last 20-years of Miami sucking at football.

One or two studs won't change the culture. U need to stack, every team that stacks wins a natty. And that 2017 team was not good, as a fan I knew that. 1) TVD was injured at the end of the NC game. Although he tried to play again, he was never healthy. Miami played with a true freshman QB that should not have been playing until 2024 at earliest.
    2) O-line lacked depth. Only had 7 lineman that could possibly start a D1 game going in and when 3 starters went down early on it was over.
    3) what was evident was lack of depth on the roster. Miami had more injuries than normal in 2022 and it was clear that the depth of talent was not there.
    4) it is true that the MTSU was an embarrassment and no excuse to come out totally flat like that. That was about all the content producer got right.
    5) Mario did win two Conference titles and a Rose bowl in 4 years at OU. To say he has not won a big game might be a bit of a stretch.
    The recruiting for 2022 and 2023 looks much improved so we shall see. Miami has not been elite since 2003. And has been mediocre for most of last 18 years. Finally the school is funding the program in order to compete in recruiting and in attracting top coaches. As a Miami fan I feel good about things moving forward as long as the funding remains strong. But still has to translate to the field and like I said it’s been 18 years. Miami won’t be elite till 2025 at earliest. Even if things work out as expected. 2023 & 2024 are about building up the talent on the roster, changing the country club culture, and improving from year 1.
