Last year, renowned journalist Matthew Carney, gained remarkable access to the Palestinian Islamist movement. He showed then how Hamas had already replaced Fatah as the leading authority in Gaza, fulfilling many of the societal functions of government. The movement's cradle-to-grave social welfare system has done more than anything to galvanise its massive public support.

@@macyjackson5985 Yasser Arafat at the time in The Wst Bank had it right when he said yoy can not gain freedom by violence. Same with dignity or Freedom is not gained by terrorism. Rejectionism and the rejectionists there at the time who rejected a 2 state solution (Decades of work by Arafat and his PLO) in favour of terrorism and the murder of inocent people will not be given freedom, dignity and human rights. Freedom, dignity and human rights have to be earnt. The level of Human rights is proportionate to the level of human rights given to other people. The murdering of Nationals of eighteen Nations reduces the human rights entitlements. Raping women and girls of other nations as an offence rather than because they are beautiful entitles only equality of savagery.
"Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel's creation," says Mr. Cohen, a Tunisian-born Jew who worked in Gaza for more than two decades. Responsible for religious affairs in the region until 1994, Mr. Cohen watched the Islamist movement take shape, muscle aside secular Palestinian rivals and then morph into what is today Hamas, a militant group that is sworn to Israel's destruction.
Instead of trying to curb Gaza's Islamists from the outset, says Mr. Cohen, Israel for years tolerated and, in some cases, encouraged them as a counterweight to the secular nationalists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and its dominant faction, Yasser Arafat's Fatah. Israel cooperated with a crippled, half-blind cleric named Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, even as he was laying the foundations for what would become Hamas. Sheikh Yassin continues to inspire militants today; during the recent war in Gaza, Hamas fighters confronted Israeli troops with "Yassins," primitive rocket-propelled grenades named in honor of the cleric.

The poor Palestinians have been crying out to the world for YEARS, yet no one listened. And they still say the same things today, and the world is finally waking up. Israel - Hamas is your own creation.
Absolute rubbish. Yasser Arafat was doing International Terrorism for attection for decades before. People listened as the terrorist acts were broadcast around the world. The Arab League listened. After some 20 years seeing tens of thousand's of his fellow Muslims murdered in retaliating or to stop the threats those PLO so called Palestinian Freedom Fighters caused in other countrys he saw that their policy of terrorism was not working and could not achive their intended goal. So he changed and turned in favour of a peacefulll settlement and two state solution. Progress at last was being made. But Hamas and the rejectionists rose up in favour of violence and terrorism. But you are clearly wrong that people are not listening. It is broadcast around the world in Arabic, Chineas, English, Latin and most every language.

Poor kids are stuck in a forced reality
A prison of their parants and forefathers making. Some of their neighbours used to have open borders before they shut them to lock out the terrorists. Other countrys learnt it was less costly to shoot ten or twenty thousand terrorists dead and to lock them out than to allow them freedom. (Syria & Jordan and Egypt shut borders). But the kids are not necessarily stuck there for all times. They could join later the other Palestinians maybe.

@@Dermzie101 You misunderstood my comment, my fault. I actually support the Palestinian cause however I am genuinely curious what people actually mean, when they say "Free Palestine"? Are we talking about a Gaza completely free from Israel oppression? (Pretty sure Hamas don't want that). Are we walking about a combined Gaza/West Bank free from Israeli occupation? (PA definitely don't want that). Or are we talking about "right of return", for Palestinians to return back to their pre 1948/60 borders. We know Israel will NEVER let that happen. If you cannot articulate what Free Palestine actually means, it becomes meaningless
