It’s crazy to me how this movie came out almost a decade ago and there’s still new analysis videos popping up on it.
Became an instant classic.
The Shining is a extremer example of this
Because Chazelle is him and original.
The color yellow being overlaid also works as a physical enhancement to the brass of the instruments to make them pop in scenes
I've heard this a numerous times now with people saying that Damien Chazelle has said this himself, is there a source that can confirm this?
@@MartinBergnerGuitar he isn’t confirming he jsut saying his opinion
@@ostardreamz4832 too bad, I'm working on an essay regarding colour grading and couldn't find a source for that
@@MartinBergnerGuitar this is from ChatGPT: it speak from a objective and subjective point of view-
The director of "Whiplash," Damien Chazelle, used the color yellow in the movie primarily to create a sense of tension, urgency, and discomfort for the audience. The yellow color grading was chosen to convey a feeling of unease and nervousness, which is reflective of the intense relationship between the young drummer and his abusive teacher.
In an interview, Chazelle explained that he used the color grading to try to convey the feeling of being under a spotlight, which is a common experience for musicians. The yellow color grading also helps to highlight the bright lights of the music school and the stage, which adds to the overall visual impact of the movie.
Additionally, yellow is often associated with caution, warning, and danger, which are all relevant themes in the movie. The yellow color grading helps to reinforce the idea that the young drummer is in a dangerous situation with his teacher, and that he must be cautious in his actions.
Overall, the use of the color yellow in "Whiplash" was a deliberate choice by the director to create a specific mood and tone that helps to reinforce the themes and emotions of the film.
The movie is shot in an old college with 2700K incandescent light no windows this is how it really looks
I think you’re overthinking massively on this one. The yellow colour grading is actually just there to show that the film takes place in Mexico.
they’re dressed in black because it’s concert attire
frrrrrrrrr
actually they're dressed in black
actually they're
@SonicCollectionsPs2Noises ah, thanks
they aren't dressed in black only during a concert.
My favourite Breaking Bad spin-off
Awesome video! I just saw Whiplash for the first time last week and I was stunned by several aspects of it!
Thank you! It’s a great movie.
I heard great things about it, loved La La Land, and finally decided to give it a try. I watched a short preview on Netflix of a scene (Not quite my temp) and it absolutely hooked me. I immediately watched the entire thing. It's damn good, so contained, and clearly masterful.
Unfortunately I do watch Marcus Flemmings and am of the opinion, like him, that Damien Chazelle's filmmaking has gone backwards rather than forwards. However, he seems to be looking for a smaller project next and we could see him excel again?
This is the best ad for filmora ever
It's a flat fucking ai voice reading a basic ass script
This sounds super interesting and at the same time it sounds like he just made it all up
this is exactly how i felt haha. came here for answers, left with doubts
I believe the colour yellow is used to indicate a sense of extreme terror and stress.
The colour yellow is the colour that represents fear.
Sounds like bullshit to me
this is like objectively wrong lol
@@quaevox1351 haven’t you read green lantern
Come on man
Everyone saying that Yellow isn't the embodiment of fear is lying.
The King In Yellow,
Sinestro corps???
But yeah, if I was making a movie, I'd rather have Green be the color of fear.
I think I'm recently pretty fascinated with colours in movies and shows. Really nice video (and a cool way to integrate a sponsorship haha)!
the AI voice is crazy
For real like he couldn’t just do it himself?😂
It’s so off-putting.
Nicole vs Nickel
It’s in yellow to let you know it’s in Mexico
sneakiest ad ive ever seen i honestly like it
Excellent video. Very good explained!
Glad you like it!
awesome insights!
I become increasingly convinced this is the greatest film ever made
I think the yellow/gold, especially when Neeman is going to play in the final scene, could also be the golden lights that were common back when Jazz had already made its place in the 40s or so.
I really love the performance seen in this movie. I haven't even watched the whole film, I've seen 80% of it through clips, but talk about a movie.
shoved that filmora ad down my throat perfectly, thats some amazing scripting
ayo?
It's funny cause to me I always so Jazz as yellow
Just before I start this video, I’m going to lock in my observation to see if it’s correct
Green: pressure
Yellow: success
i took the yellow to be where andrew wanted to be and the green to be where he actually was and the more yellow showing in the film the closer andrew got to where he wanted to be
Are you the “how it’s made” guy?
it's an ai generated video with the same voice
I noticed that, the gold-like yellow signals the flashy and prestige classes of Shaffer.
The cold and boring green signals the stale and depressing setting of the beginning, before Nieman had a shot at the big leagues.
The OG teal/orange in my opinion
When I watched Whiplash, this is what I noticed first.
Unfortunately I didn’t know what the different lighting styles meant so this video was very fun
this is the shit my english teacher would say to get the deeper meaning from a book
i absolute love this movie
Every music room I have ever been in has been brown and yellow/orange
Also, Green and Yellow are cool looking colors
Yellow symbolizes happiness and success green symbolizes failure distress.
Would’ve been nice to touch on the Upswingin scene, at the height of Andrew’s feelings of failure, Fletcher casts a cold, stark blue onto him, and he can’t keep up.
I just hear the "How it's Made" narrator
Great video but the AI voice is distracting.
To differentiate between the whip and the lash
It’s because whenever they are in yellow they are in Mexico
you can tell the script is written by AI. Not sure if its also voiced by AI
Whiplash is kinda verstappen's childhood 👽
If this movie doesnt make you rethink your life, you aint really watching it
there's also the blue colour
is this video voiced by ai???
I can't tell if this is text to speech or not
all i can remember is, "gets hit by car", "youre terrible at playing drums" or something like that
how do they make it this detailed tho.Do they just say like "OH green bad yellow good make dis yellow make dis scene green".
wonderful class
chatgpt almost called the color Jello
ok but how do you know that
My source is I made it the fuck up
Because the creator of the movie literally talks about it
0:30 its the same in real life
also the music in this video hits harder than my dad
This prob makes no sense but at the start of the movie he pronounces it “kneeman” but he calls himself “nayman” as the movie goes on. Why?
The yellow scenes represent when they're in Mexico. There you don't have to watch the video now
It’s way different from the short film as well. The short film lacks the colours and intensity
Because they are brazilian 🇧🇷🇧🇷
because one is in the matrix and the other is in breaking bad
I always find these videos read by an AI voice to be kind of uncanny and weird. The content is okay I guess.
Green stands for hope, yellow stands for fear, this is the Green Lantern movie we deserved
I think the shirt is more likely to change from white to black because he transitions from a kid to a professional. I highly doubt the white symbolizes purity, I think it was just meant to be an unprofessional outfit that a kid in school would wear.
read by ai?
Not quite my color grading
Why did you guys increase the faded film when you desaturated the yellow scenes, you're making the original look like ass
Are you an ai voice or something
Has to be. No other reason he would say Nicole as Nickel.
this sounds like ai and it hurts
this videos so bad its good
I know barely anything about filmmaking and even less about the use of colors to portray different emotions. But I can't help to think that this is analyzing it too far and complicating things. I feel like most of the time it's as simple as personal taste from the director.
It is NOT Mexico 💀
yellow is pee and green is poop
Very good
I thought green is fart and brown is poop
Green is will power and yellow is using fear power. Like the green lanterns and yellow lanterns.
that reconstruction sucked, bro.
It’s not shot in yellow. It’s not shot in green the lighting and set coloring is what is colored makes it sound like is shit with a camera filter saying it like “shot In black and white”
He didn't say that it's shot in yellow
@@vladislavvolkoffthe title of the video says it was shot in two colors
that wasn't english
Pissy cinematographer here
