This demo is EXACTLY what gear heads want!! I hope you earn commission!! I am buying this pedal because of your demo! Thanks for the time it takes to make these vids. Not easy. EVH FOREVER!!!
Ed used a still chorus/detune from fair warning to Van Halen III. THANK YOU for playing something other than pretty woman on the damn thing! Lol. It was so nice to hear some Sammy on it. Sounded awesome! Can’t wait to get mine! Gunna run it in stereo
Thank you for the very kind words and indeed you will sound crazy good with your talent and in stereo! It's a cool pedal!
Most believe it was his Roland DC-30. Its more of a doubler sounding chorus. I love mine, i had since '82. Either way this thing is soo close to the Roland.
Sounds amazing on Best of Both Worlds. Crystal clear & concise. Brings me back to a wonderful time.
Huge thanks! Although chorus was not really used for that, it does get you close.
Thank you for going beyond Pretty Woman and showing how to use this chorus to play those luscious Van Hagar era tunes.
Very nice demo, Eric, and fantastic tones. I just bought the Corona Chorus from TC Electronics not long ago, but now I'm itching for this one. Cheers!
PDX Guitar Freak I’ve got one of those and I’m wondering if there’s a toneprint that can get the same sound as this?...
I'm not sure, I know it's built around the MXR Stereo Chorus somewhat, but I don't know much about the TC pedal. Thanks for the kind words on the demo!
This is what I have been looking to add to my rig! Thanks for the demo!
Very welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
Wow this pedal sounds amazing, i love the D tune effect it can get...alot of the early sammy era stuff the guitar sounded so wet and this pedal will relly help get close to that sound
Really glad you enjoyed it
Sounds AMAZING! : )
This was a fun one to film. Glad you dig it!
This guy is about to mind meld with Eddie. His spirit is merging into one.
Ha!
Excellent demo. I'm buying one!
Huge thank you!
Definitely great work indeed my man! Looks and performs just amazingly!
Huge thank you!
No problem my man!
Sounds amazing Eric! Great demo too!
Huge thank you on all counts Shawn!
Very complete review!human beings sounds amazing bro. hopefully this pedal is arriving home in this quarantine!
Great Review!! I am In .Hopin Mrs.Claus puts one under the tree this Christmas for me!...Thanks Eric
Huge thank you, and I hope she does too! Will be a great present!
I knew it would be perfect for delievring the beautiful tones from the Van Hagar era but it sounds amazing for the DLR songs too :)
Awesome thank you for checking it out!
You Getting One Phoenix? : )
Never saw this one till today!! really cool Eric!
Glad you enjoyed it buddy!
Derek Smalls I thank you for this review.
You are very welcome. Your's truly, Derek Smalls.
Excellent demo! Thanks!!!
Huge thanks buddy! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great demo of a very cool pedal Eric! If I'm ever in the market for another chorus pedal (I currently use the Boss Chorus Ensemble that Ed used for his 2015 tour), this is the one I'd grab. Love the sounds and simplistic layout!
Many thanks for the kind words buddy and for checking it out!
Released in 2018, it's the one pedal he never got to take out on the road... Considering how important the de-tune effect was to the Hagar era albums I like to think this would have gotten some use, maybe replacing the Eventide rack unit for "kitchen sink" tour we never got.
Indeed it would have been so cool to see it on his board. RIP to the greatest.
Thanks for a well done review.
You are very welcome!
I so want one!!
Sounds great!! SOLD!!
Just got the overdrive, phaser and flanger. This chorus sounds great and I’d love to get it down the road along with his wah.
Hey Eric, testing the comment out but great information on the pedal!! I can't want to see more of what MXR has in stock for EVH pedals.
Perfect now we just have to see you in the live chat! Glad you enjoyed this video and I can't see what's next from them either!
Damn another evh pedal I have to buy now great sounding pedal and paint job.I think the paint job is an homage to the V H 2 album jacket color scheme.......there is a lot of chorusing on that album, although subtle other then woman in love which is drenched.
Thanks to you for your very well done video .
Great video, good job!
Huge thanks Chris!
Awesome
Sounds good.
Hey, it would be really cool to hear this on acoustic guitar, particularly nylon string/classical
Hmmm good suggestion!
Great demo as always ! Some questions Eric....were you running straight in front of your amp or in the loop? Where you using the standard mono set-up or did you have a second amp to utilize the stereo output as well?
I have the pedal and love it! I just watched this while in the office and jotted down some of your settings to see how they stack up against mine when I get home this evening....I just wanted to make sure on the set-up as well.
Many thanks, really glad you enjoyed the video. This was direct to the front of the 5150III 100 watt head. I always run Chorus in front. Cab was mic'd and sent to my mixer for recording.
Sounds Great, using it before the amp mono though à speaker or other. Rather well done
I currently have the MXR Stereo Chorus...do you think this 5150 will offer me anything my current chorus doesn't?
To be 100% honest, I can't compare as I don't have the stereo one here to do an A/B. I'd say probably not a ton of difference between the 2 other than maybe some slight tonal tweaks Eddie may have done to his version. I would recommend it to you in addition to your stereo chorus, only if you wanted it for your collection.
Awesome demo! I have been on the fence about buying one, and this just made me finally pull the trigger and order one! Are you running this in stereo in the video? And is it going through the FX Loop or the front end?
Glad this helped you. I am running mono and to the front of the amp. In my case, I always run Chorus to the front.
@@musicgearnetwork Thanks so much!!
@@BenCoteMusic You got it!
Should have used a rate knob.
Do I hear a reverb or delay, or is this just this chorus pedal?
It's been a long time since I did this video, but probably reverb and delay in there yes.
Hey Eric. I bought this pedal and really like it. Its in my effects loop and don't love it there for some reason. It seems to have a phase effect. I want to leave this pedal on all the time and get that Van Hagar tone. If it were you, would you run this pedal in the effects loop or at the front of the amp? Just curious as to your thoughts. I am going to tinker with it but I'm not in love with it in the effects loop. I also get the red light on the pedal all the time and I assume thats bad LOL??
Just as a suggestion, chorus (should) be added to the front of the amp, instead of the loop. I think you will find it a much better sound my going out front. Try and let me know your results.
EVH & Gear TV I will! Thank you!
Sweet!
Thanks bro!
EVH & Gear TV Cool how you looped to show effects. 👍
Still trying to save for a new axe and amp first...gosh I hate thieves😤...sounds great
I have the eventide harmonizer but I'm surprised how close this gets to that sound! Mabey I should replace the boss chorus ensemble with this just for the looks
Totally up to you, it's a pretty cool pedal. It was not easy to put this one back in the box and ship it to the giveaway winner. I really enjoyed it!
At one time you had the MXR Analog Chorus on your pedal board. Do you have any knob setting recommendations to achieve the iconic ‘Pretty Woman’ tone? How does that tone fair against the actual 5150 Chorus...?
Buen pedal , suena mejor en el FX loop.
True bypass vs buffered bypass, what’s the difference?
Very very good question. True bypass means that when the pedal is "off" no coloured signal is processed and sent further down the chain (or to your amplifier). It is good to have a buffer or buffered bypass in your pedal lineup, but only one is required. So let's say I had a couple BOSS pedals on my board (which I do) and most are buffered bypass (at least the stompbox style ones are) some of my other BOSS pedals (the DD-500, RV-500 and MD-500 can be switched to buffered/true) then I could leave the EVH pedal in "true bypass". But don't get sold on the idea that true bypass or buffered bypass is any better than the other. I hope this helps you a bit and thanks for the good question!
Hi! Just started with ‘runaround’ . Is the chorus suitable for this sound, or is it more a detune/pitch shift kinda thing? Thanks!
awsome! little to much for a chours though
Thank you for checking it out!
I agree but also realize they stuck a piece of rack gear in a pedal, so maybe it's pricier as a result. Either way I like it.
Did you put the pedal in front of the amp or in the effects loop?
I put it in the front. Not that is the "rule" but I feel Chorus, Phase, Flange all sound best to front of amp.
And no noise issues?
Where does it go in the chain? How do I use it in stereo with my othe evh pedals that are mono?
How would you rate this to the boss ce 2 super chorus?
were you using this in front of the amp they whole way through the demo?
Yes, I never use chorus in the loop of an amp.
I thought he used an Eventide harmoniser
What song is @4.35
Does anyone know if this pedal is analog or digital
Cool stripe motif? I have it, It's horrible, good luck being able to see any letters or numbers, i dont get how anyone looked at that paint scheme and thought that was a good idea lol.
Hey I am 3/4 blind and I can make it out. At least good enough to use it. Plus how many other striped colour combinations can we have?
Well then you must have a different version, because the one i have, no one will ever be able to read the letters or numbers unless it is in a very well lit room, i dont care about the stripes or color, i care about the fact that whoever ok'd that pedals lettering/number color has obviously never played on a poorly lit stage lol.
Don't know why the hook ups are on the top rather than the sides like on the EVH Flanger and Phaser. No rate knob either. Won't get this one. We really don't need yet ANOTHER chorus pedal. Boss has the best ones over all these years.
Michael Holmes most people prefer top mount jacks these days. Allowing pedals closer together on small boards.
My Chorus Ensemble beats this...
Enjoy it, the Chorus Ensemble is also a nice pedal. However there are many VH fans that will want this pedal for their collections alone.
200 bucks for a chorus pedal. That's way too much money for simple chorus effect. Most chorus pedals are 100 bucks or less. It's a nice pedal, but come on.
I'll just wait a year and buy one used.
This isn't a chorus pedal. It's a rack effect in a pedal. For all we know, maybe it costs that much because it takes a lot on the board to get the effect.
It's not a chorus pedal? It's literally called the "MXR EVH 5150 Chorus Pedal." It's a pedal that when turned on produces a chorus effect. You can get an equally good or superior chorus effect for much less. There is no reason to buy this except for the name value. It produces a good chorus tone, but it's just too pricey for what you're getting.
Again, "it's a rack chorus effect in a pedal."
I'd usually agree with you on this one however I tried one in store and instantly knew I had to buy it, I've always found that I need to spend forever tweaking chorus effects but with this one but even just straight out of the box it sounded amazing, would strongly recommend this one!
Sorry but i have to disagree i have the MXR and Boss CH-1 and the Boss is a lot better and a lot cheaper.
Well, thank you for at least checking out the video Rico Sanchez
