Hi everyone! I recently notified the winner (Michael Bacon). Congrats again to him! I thought I would come back and post this since I've been getting questions about whether the contest is still open. Thanks to everyone for entering! :)
PDX Guitar Freak. So I need to know.... I have a digitech Element and it's okay but the distortion is too dirty for me. I want to buy the Line 6 HX. I'm not understanding how foot pedals in line are linked to get the sound you have. I have a Les Paul Classic and my Taylor. Can you give me advise on what I might need to do in order to make it sound like E.V.H. or Slash's sound
@@larrymiller4583 Hi Larry, I'm using a LIne 6 Helix.... no pedals. Once you have the HX, check out Line 6's CustomTone website where you can download the patches/files people have created. That's a great way to start. :)
PDX Guitar Freak Thanks for the reply on the HX. Very usefully but since the virus hit looks I won't be able to get it anytime soon. BUMMER!! I do have a request.. I admire your knowledge and the way you teach. So with that being said, Promises in the dark by Pat Benetar and Ordinary Man from Triumph have been all time favorites of mine. So I'm hoping you'll consider teaching those. They both kick ass. Thanks again for your time, Larry Miller
I hope so too. I've resigned to the possibility that he may never tour again, or put out new material. I just have to believe he has so many ideas that never made it to record, and he's still "tinkering" as he likes to say. Even a solo album with instrumental material would be the coolest thing ever. But more importantly, I hope his health improves and he is feeling well :)
Damn! awesome pedal! and very informative video, i don't know if this give away is just for U.S residents only but i did all the steps anyway. Very cool from you man so i think i speak for all of us by saying thanks for the opportunity to have this. you rock!
you know i love your lessons and you really ripped the hell out of that ending right there. thanks so much for everything as always, and i hope you will bestow this legendary pedal upon me sir. this is literally the last pedal i need to check off on my dream pedal checklist. ❤️❤️
This is awesome, I'm in, I was just looking through my old uploads from when I was half my age and didn't realize you commented on one of them, 10 years ago! You're one of the first people I subscribed to on CZcams, really cool to still see your videos, and still learn from your tutorials a decade later :)
Subscribed for your solo lessons a while ago and I hope this contest brings more attention and love to your channel. Gotta share the gift of rock and roll with everyone! \m/
Thank you for the great lessons. You've helped me improve and re-energized my interest in guitar. Great giveaway! I've wanted one of those for a while. Crosses fingers...
Always loved Eddie van Halen and the phase 90 but I'm living on ssi disability so I can't afford to get one I would love to have that evh phase 90 peddle. Ps you're a great player and a great guy.
@@PDXguitarfreak You're welcome, I saw them I think in78/79 (it was soooo long ago). I was like 13 or so, and my older bro and his friends took me. Was awesome! Saw them 6 or 7 times after that. I'm one of those VH fans that likes both Dave and Sammy. I'm new to playing guitar, just a few weeks now honestly. Decided I'm not getting younger, time to finally get one and learn. So no pedals other than the FS11 for my Blackstar amp. Would be fun to just play with one, and make some noise, since that's usually what I make now when I just play around and not doing lessens/practice. So again thanks for the chance, you got a new fan! Hope to someday have 1/100th of your talent.
Hey bro...like i always say to you...best guitar teacher on the net and just as talented as the musicians you teach. Would love to have the phase pedal but your the one who has to choose...cheers!
Twatter? LOL! Great sound you have going on. Love the phased funk sound. It's probably one of my all time favorite sounds. Liked, commented, subbed, bell'd, and shared. Thanks Freak.
Shared the video with my dad back home! We bond over EVH- I was listening to some VH last night and Eddie is 100% still the king! I've got a poster of him in my college dorm! The atomic punk!!
He seriously changed the game- guitar would not be the same if it weren't for him! Saw Frankie on display at the Met museum in New York earlier this year was truly amazing to see
What's up man! Lovin' how deep you get into the detail of the solos! (This is also my comment for the giveaway) been lookin for something like that goddamn pedal! Thanks for doing this! Cheers man! Keep shredin
Great pedal! Always wanted one and surprisingly never owned a phase 90 P.S. love the shirt brother! Ed has been one of my biggest influences and good luck too everyone can’t wait to see who wins it
Hey thanks bro! Yeah this is my favorite VH shirt. It's a replica from the era where I first got into VH (the Diver Down days), so it's nostalgic appeal is huge to me. :)
The funny thing about that is I was looking at that yesterday but couldn’t afford it because it was overpriced and I’m a teen so that didn’t help. Haha!
I have this pedal and had it in my effects loop. Script button in and setting about 9:00. It always sounded way too dramatic so I never really used it. Was frankly disappointed in it as I bought it specifically to play VH. I had heard about putting it in front of the amp for the VH sound, but just never got around to it. Watched this video and said to myself it's time to put it in front of the amp. All I can say is "WOW", what a difference! Subtle and exactly the sound of VH, and what I always expected to hear when I bought it! It's like having bought a new pedal! Thanks for this video, Dave!! Gave me the impetus to put the pedal in front!

You don't look that stereo typical shredder but you're pretty good and have that calm voice that isn't obnoxious.
Over the years I have found this pedal is the only way to get close to EVH sound. It also nails some of the Blackmore stuff from the 70's.
I use it for "Highway Star".
You played amazingly in the video. You showed some moves that I never knew. Thank you
