    Keith Richards used an mxr phaser for a lot of stones songs and he didn't use a lot of effects but he always had a phaser on his board it became an integral part of his guitar sound. I replaced my small Stone with a multi-effects modulation pedal- not even close to the ehx.
    It's probably going to wind up back on my board. Love your channel you're a great guitar player and teacher.

    Gilmour and MXR, Terry Kath and Meastro, Trower and Uni-Vibe are what remind me of Phase effects of the early 70s. Oh and Waylon Jennings was a user of phase effects in the 70s as well.

    • @JoeGuitar
      @JoeGuitar Před 2 lety +1

      Waylon used an MXR phase100 pedal. In fact a lot of 70's country players embraced the phase100 pedal.

    Phaser junkie here. I was taking photos on my cell phone of your video. Its a great guitar effect, and I never get tired of it. In fact I spent years pursuing the sound I need. Always learn something new from videos like this. Have a bunch that work great clean. My challenge has been nailing down the phase with distortion sound. I think an original maestro would do it, but that is out of my price range.

    You are correct, the only reason I know is that I started playing in 67. Just as a note. Just because these effects were technically available, they weren’t widely available , certainly here in the UK. However the practical electronics style mags published schematics. So you could recruit a skilled friend or go to your local tv repair shop and have one built.

    You are correct sir... specifically the Uni-vibe is a 4 stage phaser. I know because I own about 10 different Uni-vibe clones and they all use the same LDR circuit to achieve that classic tone. As far as Eddie using it as a buffer.... I think your describing the fact that the MXR phase 45 and phase 90 were not true bypass so if you switched the effect off it would still load down the signal and a little of the phased sound would sneak by. I used to keep my phase 45 always in my signal path but never turn it on. And because a little phased signal would get by it would add just a little "magic" swirl to the signal that was subtle but very useful. Def a case of NOT true bypass being a good thing.

  • @seanhayes2998

    Chris Buck did a show on the univibe where he quotes the original japanese designer saying that he was trying to emulate the distortion of the ionosphere on the reception of radio moscow, and didn’t design it for the guitar at all.
