so once on the bike you’ll need a 3rd cable just to do updates with b/c you can’t bring the shifters to the connectors anymore

Yes it appears so unless you want to take your brake hoses off / apart and re-bleed them for an update. I have the Ultegra 6770 di2 10 speed too and never updated. It's over 10 years old and still works flawlessly like day 1.

@@pedalpowercyclingI would append this. You can unplug the FD and get a junction and a cable and run it as an extension to the shifters in order to update the firmware on there.

@@mrflibble244 Yes that is an option as well, but you'll still need a 3rd cable, in this case an extension.

what a journey, now i might not be so afraid to buy the 105 di2 and install it myself, still is so stupid that you can't wireless update the levers.

Did you end up purchasing a 105 di2 set to install yourself? Since the groupset is still new I haven't had to update the levers yet but I can imagine it'll be a little more difficult updating the levers when the time comes because the levers are connected to the brake hoses, which are routed internally through the frame. . . If I have to take those hoses off then another re-bleed may be necessary.

@@pedalpowercyclingyes, i finally upgraded my bike to 105 di2 back in April, spent around 900USD for the full groupset. i ended up buying an extra di2 cable and a 2 port junction called EW-JC302, all you need to do is temporarily disconnect the front derailleur di2 cable and use the EW-JC302 and the extra di2 cable to connect it to the shifters you want to update the firmware.

Great deal!! Mine was over $1000 for the group set. Thanks for the info on the extension cable. It's much easier that way than to mess with the brake hoses.
