We explore the abandoned Caterham F1 headquarters (we found original Carbon moulds!!)

- The Caterham F1 Team was a Malaysian, later British, owned Formula One team based in the United Kingdom which raced under a Malaysian licence.[1] The Caterham brand competed in the Formula One World Championship from 2012 to 2014, following the acquisition of British sportscar manufacturer Caterham Cars by former owner and team principal Tony Fernandes, forming the Caterham Group.
In July 2014, Tony Fernandes and his partners announced that they had sold the team to a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors.[3] The "Caterham" name was later used under licence after the Caterham Group separation.[4]
In October 2014, Caterham entered administration and did not attend a race weekend for the first time in its history beginning from the United States Grand Prix. In November 2014, after also missing the Brazilian Grand Prix, Caterham became the first F1 team ever to resort to crowdfunding, enabling it to race at the final Grand Prix for 2014 and take part in end of season testing both held in Abu Dhabi.[5] On 27 February 2015, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) published a revised entry list with Manor Marussia being reintroduced and Caterham being removed from the list,[6] and by March of the same year, the team's assets were put up for auction, spelling the official demise of the team. - Zábava
I was expecting to see a completely intact caterham in some shed and then Heikki would appear out of nowhere with a huge beard and saying they left him there and he had to survive by eating rats or something.
hahaha, you made me laugh
Curius cat. Nice one greatings from Finland. And i m not Heikki🤣
Hahahahahaha that would be cool
Oh my i died
this is very much inaccurate considering that Heikki would go on to win Super GT championship in 2016 but that's very funny indeed
Looks like a post-apocalyptic world rather than a factory of a team that folded as recently as at the end of 2014.
four years is still a long time for people to get in and fuck shit up. The facade is still in good shape. Didn't they also sell/auction all racing related assets? Maybe that made the factory so empty inside, adding to that post-apocalyptic look.
thing is, i watched a video which i think was recorded a year before this. so people must have seen it and gone to vandalise the place...
Some of the interiors vaguely remind me of Portal 2's abandoned and overgrown offices.
*_It’s physically painful seeing what people have done to this place!_* *_NO RESPECT!_*
That ‘studio’ you just walked straight through was the old simulator room. Best bit in there. It’s completely fucked since I went in there, don’t understand why people trash these places.
That's a Kovalainen autographed card!!!
I'd keep it!!!
Gary Sanderson its not realy his autograph but still i would take it
That is like.. stealing
rkan2 no knows owns it
@falchulk If all of the Caterham assets were auctioned in 2014, then that postcard is obviously not considered part of those assets. Therefore, being abandoned after 5 years it effectively belongs to no one, or else all the postcards would have been rounded up and sold with the assets previously.
@falchulk It's a postcard bro. Fuck yeah I'm taking that shit from right in front of a police officer.
One thing you didn’t mention was how much money it will take to put it right........
ZD433 😂😂😂
That was one of the opening statements he made. He estimated it will be in the millions. :p
It’s going to cost a pretty penny don’t you know😂😂
yeah if only he mentioned how much money it would take.....
He did...
It's sad to see the demise of caterham, I so badly wanted them to continue, so much I am one of the people who donated through crowdfunding to try and get them back on the track, so sad
Time ago our company cleaned this entire site after they moved out, seeing this we wasted our time!
So you didn't get paid?

If you can get hold of the 'marched-off-site- aero designer Marrianne..... You'd be able to build a progressive car.

Why do people wreck places no respect
@@TheYazukaa lol true
Because these chavs have nothing else going for them so they fuck shit up trying to leave their mark on society, but when they die, they will just be another statistic that disappears with history.
Nathan Iredale in Britain people wreck things for copper and take it to a scrapyard for money
Seahawk STRIKE not all of us.
Before Caterham was in there, it was the HQ of Arrows and Super Aguri.
Amazing how much of that place is steeped in F1 history, yet the building looks like the last renovation happened in the 1980's. No wonder no creativity happened, working in such a depressing environment.
Truly creative people don't need a post modern architectural nightmare environment to be creative in. Spending millions on glass and stainless cathedrals to impress uptight people doesn't equal vision.
My great uncle worked their for Arrows and was good friends with the Verstappens at the time. I was lucky enough to do work experience at the caterham facility during secondary school. There's a reason they call it the Motorsport valley!
Tyrell did OK from a wooden shed.
I used to work there during the Arrows days
Says something about modern society when a building that is empty gets totally trashed in a short time.
It's disgraceful! I couldn't watch the whole video! Abandoned by Caterham (sadly) perhaps, but someone still owns that. The damage is shocking, especially the smashed glass. Just mindless, senseless :|
Says something about modern society when people can spend so much money on crap, and then be able to just walk away without a thought for all of the wasted money. Yet we have people living on the streets. We also have families having to go to food banks, fucking disgrace.
@@andrewjones7595 true although they were bankrupted and thrown out...not much they could do..still it is a terrible waste and someone should have stepped in and used the space.
@@myke104uk actually good riddance. That place was left empty because the owner probably wanted too much, If he gave that building away to charity they could have built a school , an orphanage etc. Since he probably wanted to make MORE money (as all sharks do), then TRASH the damn place so when he has to sell, value will be severely diminished. Fuck the sharks
@@signorpaldoni I heard about a supermarket company that bought a cinema and a car wash to build 2 new sites, destroyed all the old buildings, and just for that they spent millions of €.
After that, a meeting has been done: "sales in that areas are gone down, we can't employ 150/200 people, we will end up spending more than the 2 sites could generate"
They build new sites, and knock them down like nothing was, because profit and paying useless managers talking bullshit is more important than employ people.

@MATADOR
Her dad Frank/ Patrick Head would never of let the team get to the state that it is currently in now.
I could believe everything they left behind.
Same. At least have the decency to clean up after yourself.
@@LogiForce86 just imagine the number of parts designed, tested, replaced just based on the track they are going to race at next then consider being in business for as long as Ferrari or Williams have been and then have to do something with molds for parts you will never use again. The car formula will change and all those molds for parts are useless and worthless.
@@greavous93 I know what to do with that... get a crusher at the factory and just crush everything and than it's off to the garbage disposal.
Cleaning up after yourself isn't hard. Especially not when you go out of business and can just throw it all out.
@@LogiForce86 You idiot. That sort of stuff, the stuff that can be sold could be actioned off to make the company a small fortune to help with their debts. Any TRUE Motorsport fan wouldn't want to see stuff ruined. Put it in a museum, do something with it.
@@mattcecil6692 Put what in a museum? Some trash that says "Canada GP" on it...or the very valuable "Caterham Model Shop" paper? This was a stupid video and I hate that youtube keeps recommending useless shit like this.
Imagine you worked for the Team and watch this video. It must be heartbreaking.
The carbon fibre moulds left behind are cool, they are very expensive. One in particular was the mould for the cockpit surround.
No. That's simply PU foam machined by a milling machine. The cheapest possible mould material. Good enough for this purpose: Building up to ten parts and demoulding them.
There is a reason why nobody had stolen it...
@@vollhorst9996 exactly....first of, anything that was even bit of value was sold in auction House after team went bankrupt and anything left of value that was possibly left behind ( like all the copper that was stolen from the structures) was propably stolen at first sign of opportunity..... there is absolutely NOTHING worth left there anymore...only for some HC F1 fans that floor tape with the tracks and Caterham F1 car images along with those postcards might Be of some very insignificant sentimental value....
This specialized moulding foam is expensive indeed, however now these finished moulds are hardly worth anything unless someone wants to build a replica car or considers them memorabilia.
"You won't believe they left behind"...why wouldn't I believe they left diddly-squat behind.....everything for a click right!
Looks like Tony Fernandes got busy with the sledgehammer after he stopped the F1 😂
Tom Winter hahahahaha 😂
Hah, I could actually imagine him trying to desperately gather every piece of Copper out of that place in desperation and also let his rage out by tearing up the place :D...but seriously, Guy must regret the rest of his life entertaining F1. I honestly dont undet why teams like this, Virgin (then Marussia) and HRT ever entered F1 in 2010....
@@Balnazzardi They went into F1 under the promise by the FIA that there would be a cost cap, meaning lower costs to run the team, but they were never introduced due to the backlash from the bigger teams, meaning those new teams were inevitiably going to die out as a result such as this team of Catherham. HRT and Virgin would suffer similar fates.
5:50 I would so steal that carpet/floor sticker

Carsten Wack No,young people today are angry and haven’t been thought proper manners and respect. It’s the same here in the US.😡
@@fw1421 The problem is that when I think back to the things I used to do with friends when I kid, most of them aren't an option anymore. They're either now too dangerous, too expensive or simply don't exist.
It's a bit like prisoners being given TVs when they are in jail - it's to incentivise them to to behave well. If they don't, they lose the TV. Lots of kids these days are growing up with nothing, are in a families with 2nd or 3rd generation unemployment, go to schools where the teachers have given up and have no hope of ever getting anywhere in life. Once you're at that point, it's impossible to teach manners and respect.

Was that the same time as we were still bringing stuff down form the Hingham factory in the small vans ?
This video gives me mixed emotions. Sad, angry and fascinated at the same time, gutted it’s been trashed so badly. I’d have so taken a few souvenirs, I love F1. 😎❤️ Actually met Heikki and Jarno once and got both their autographs.
My uncle met Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, Mark Webber, and Lewis Hamilton back in 2012❤️
This gonna make me really angry. Every single part of this building is destroyed.
I thinks most of the damage was from people stripping out the copper water pipes
To be honest I am gutted, I so wanted them to do well, this is very sad, all them dreams, all that hope, all that talent not given a chance. 😥
Feels bad man .
Moving from the adequate factory in Hingham to Leafield was the first thing they done wrong.
Very cool! Too bad it was in such rough shape.
Are you sure that is not Chernobyl?
blimey thats a right mess now
I really hope none of the cool f1 graphics have been graffitied on and that whoever buys the place preserves them 🤞
Just feel sad for all the people made redundant because of Tony Fernandes's ego. Hope they all found better jobs.
RIP Charlie Whiting 2019
Great shame it ended this way. I love F1. Thanks up.
mate theyve smashed some glass and bent some blinds, no real expensive damage in most places
The bastards that destroyed the building shoud be in jail.
It is so sad to see this…
Nice one. Went here last year.
I remember David Cameron once visited this facility to meet the guys at Lotus/Caterham, because he was from Witney. Now look at the Sad mess it is now.
Yes, the day he turned up they renamed it Cunterham in his honour.
Thanks for the tour! End of an era! They'll pull that place down
Very sad that it was reduced to this in only two years. Looks like it has been abandoned for decades
Definitely one of the best places you've explored. It's a shame it's been trashed so badly, but I did like the funny bits at the end 😁
I thought Caterham F1 shut its doors at the end of '14. It was still being used by other parties until '16?
It allways takes al ot of time to deal with a bankrupcy, i can imagine the building still contained a lot of Caterham stuff untill the bankrupcy was handled. But like someone else had allready noted, this building still has an owner who's likely going to have no other option then to take it all down rather than fixing the place back up.
I believe manor may have used it for a while

Kasen and EpicGamer. Manor used its own factory. The old Marussia factory was acquired by Haas as its European base.
😢Shame to see it in that state, had some great memories working there! Thanks for posting the vid👍
Looks like the local Gypsies! Got in there? Lol
I went for work experience here in 1997 when it was TWR Arrows. Sad to see the place derelict and vandalised like this.
Looks like the headquarters is in more of a state than the performance of the Caterham itself! Lol
I could spend hours digging through those molds and stuff...too cool
when tony fernandez realize his finances couldn't match his ego
Almost expected to see Joel or Ellie, atleast hear a clicker or 2....
@Alan Schuchman yea, one of the best games i've ever played, seeing nature starting to take this busted up place back reminded me of it.
I love Lost Places and Formula 1

Sad to see how an F1 team can disappear like that.
One can not simply pick up a piece of carbon fibre and not mention its weight
Some people say Williams employees are less scared of working in this building than working for Frank and Claire.
These molds are treasures
What a cool set up of a building
Thank you Tony Fernandez.
Very interesting. Maybe for these shots a wide angle camera would be a idea for somewhere in the future
6:26 I felt like he was going to run into the Tyrant from Resident Evil 2 going up those stairs.
This is the forth such video I've seen showing this sit being abandoned the first was in 2016. It is sad to see such a facility damaged in this way but I don't think the exposure on the internet has helped its cause.
very good as usual , but quiet volume has returned !
Very sad. Had a job interview at TWR arrows many moons ago at Leafield. Used to have a lovely V12 jag engine in the reception area.
Awesome video, I love f1, damn shame what happened to them
They should 'ove boarded up the place instead of quickly packing up and darting out. You know rich people, money talks and they are quick to walk.
looks like an old water treatment place with te ponds
Faith to the ability of chavs achieving great things, is restored!
Would be good for airsoft once cleaned out a little
The whole place has a Last Of Us vibe to it. So sad to see, all that creativity and potential reduced to rubble and rubbish
No cars or wind tunnel :(
They would of scrapped the cars unfortunately :((((
@@blueberrypancake they actually sold 1 of the 2014 cars entirely in auction House and I quess all the spare parts as well.
Didn't have their own wind tunnel.. They used Williams's one which is located not far from Leafield.
I totally don’t get this vandalism stuff. Wander around, have a great Time exploring but leave everything intact so A. Those who follow can explore safely and in an more original like location B. Who ever buys the place don’t need to clean your rubbish up.
It’s sad people seem to have such an urge for destruction :(
But to end on a positive note: like your video! :)
@The Bearded Explorer, you should buy up that place as well as that abandoned garage with all of the vehicles in there.
I believe this is one of the reasons why we will not see a new team soon..
What a shame! I remember seeing these guys race in Shanghai and it doesn’t feel that long ago. I was kind of hoping for those 3 new teams to get their shit together and compete. Caterham was unlucky not to sneak in some points
If they'd survived a little longer they would have been a billion dollar business. Looking how much the teams are worth now and how hard it is for a new team to enter.
At least they have one of the best Blown Diffuser Sound ever
Cool place to go see.
I hope that theres a steering wheel somewhere left behind there or something else like a race suit or a helmet hidden inside
the pigeons are following you from place to place it seems :)
all of these just to race 2 cars...unbelievable...i wonder how many freeloaders were there during their active days..
Does anyone know what will happen to the building? It's a pretty big building for a relatively small team like caterham, and from the outside the structure of the building still looks intact. 2012 to 2014 as Caterham f1.
